2004 Toyota Camry + FM Transmitter + Phoenix, AZ [Archive]

Is it just me, or is this combination just impossible? I heard it was something with the way Toyotas are wired up, and also, the fact that in Phoenix, there seems to be something being broadcasted on every station known to man!

What are my options here? The head unit does not have an aux-in, and I want something that will also charge the iPhone. Anyone else have the same car and have the same problems of getting it to work with the stock system?

I am stuck here...

I have tried many FM Transmitters, including one by the supposed superior Monster Cable.

This may be a silly question, but do you have a cassette deck in your car? I don't know when they quit installing them; my old '02 Grand Am had a cassette deck and a CD player, and I always used a DLO TransPod with the cassette-adapter thingie and it worked flawlessly. The sound was SO much better than any I ever got using an FM transmitter.

Sorry--that's the only suggestion I've got! :)

doesnt the casette deck make a "tick" noise every 2 seconds when its playing... anyone else have this problem... I dont remember if it was like that when I got the new car, but recently I have started to notice it...

I love too see you try Motorola T505 or the Satechi Bluetooth $60-70 bucks but giving your past experience probably want to try one 1st. might see if best buy carries one of them. pretty happy with my Motorola!

+1 on using a cassette adapter. I used to use one on my 02 Nissan Maxima and it was WAY better than an FM transmitter. I wouldn't be surprised if the OP had a tape deck. (FWIW, Priuses shipped w/tape decks until they dropped them starting w/model year 2006.)

I do have a '04 Camry, LE model tho. Anyway, I have been using the cassette tape adapter since the beginning. It works fine. Meanwhile, there should be another 12V outlet inside the central compartment.

Mine has a 12v adapter inside the center console armrest thing, if thats what you mean. I guess I will go the tape adapter route. Thanks guys.

The only time mine ever did was when (I guess) it was old or got worn out or something. I replaced it with a new Sony adapter and never had a problem with it for the 4 years I used it.
