A few hours ago our cat just passed away. It was a long time coming and we had all known that it was going to happen...but still...it was so sudden. It was literally an hour going from being able to walk (albeit extremely wobbly) to being gone. We'd had her ever since I was around 3 or 4, so its something like 14 or 15 years.

We all miss her.

Sorry for your loss. You've known her almost your entire life . . . that must be hard for you.

Is there a heaven for cats? Pets are family sorry to see your cat go but glad she didn't suffer.

I know the feeling, my family's cat, which we'd had ever since I was born, and was a couple months from turning 18, passed away at the start of February. He got to the stage where we thought the old bastard was going to live forever :o

I'm sorry for your loss, I know how it feels.

So sorry to hear about your cat. :( Pets are difficult to lose as they do become a part of the family.

Sorry for your loss, I know what it is like. We had a cat from when I was born that lived until I was 16. It was really tough especially after that long of a time, I know how you feel.

Duff-Man says...really sorry to hear that. I lost one of mine almost a year ago now and I still miss him a lot. I think it is usually a good idea to get another cat as soon as the initial grief period is over with - there are so mnay of them out there that need good loving homes like it sounds like your family provides...oh yeah!

I'm sorry for your loss.

I lost my favorite cat that I had since I was 10 last year so I can relate. At least she isn't in pain and is in a better place.

Bummer man. I know what you're going through, my 14 year old dog died a few weeks ago. It sucks... a lot.

I feel badly for you and your family, but glad you had that kitty for so long. Even in your sorrow now I'm sure you wouldn't trade away all the funny, silly, exasperating  and peaceful times with her over the years.

Ouch. It really does suck when a pet dies. :(

Sorry for your loss. I have three cats, and one is REAL close to me. I dread for that day to come.

:( I'm sorry to hear it. Losing a pet is horrible. Sounds like you gave her a really good home and there are a lot of cats out there that need them, when you're ready.

Sorry to hear that about your cat, ours passed away this year. We sadly had to put her down because she was just to old and couldn't walk properly :(

Thanks everyone for your kind words. The really sad thing is that I have no idea how she died - I was in a different room at the time; although I like to think it was peaceful. I did see her about 30 mins before she did though, and it was absolutely awful to see her like she was. I can't even begin to describe how terrible it was.

This really sucks.

Really sorry to hear that! When they've been around for so long they really do start to feel like one of the family.

I'm really sorry for you. It's an experience I still have ahead of me.

Me and my girlfriend have 2 cats, the older one I got 2003 from an animal shelter after thinking about almost a year if I'm really up to it. I never regretted it after I took her home in the end. The second one we got as a baby in 2007. After the initial fighting period they now really love each other.

Our older one is now 9 years old and had a cancer operation about a months ago, the poor thing is still missing a lot of fur but the operation was successfull. We just hope it won't come back.

And yes, like Duff Man said, get a new one... they are such lovely little creatures. My girlfriends aunt is at her 3rd or 4th dog at the moment. Once you get used to a friendly animal running around you really miss it.

I know exactly how you feel, I lost two pets to illness and old age the last few months.

It's really awful to begin with and you'll always miss your cat, but finally you'll just remember the nice things, and the grief will be past.

Doesn't make it any easier right now, though.:(

:( I'm sorry to hear that. My dog was put down just over a year ago now and it's still quite sad that there isn't some shaggy little black dog begging for carrots or wondering what on gods earth I'm doing when playing on the Wii.
Its never easy losing a pet especially one you've known that long. That's a good age for a cat.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

We're worried about one of our cats, she has been with us every since I was three or four. We think she may pass away in a few months to come.

I'm fourteen now, so she's 12 years old.

I'm so sorry to hear that.

I've got two cats, both about 14 that I've had since they were kittens (over half my life) and they're showing signs of age. I hate to see it when they get like that.. you know them for so long and in many ways they're some of the best friends you have. You get to know their habits and moods just like people.
