HELP: 2g iphone stuck on pineapple logo

I did a General>settings>erase all content on an unlocked/jb'ed 2g. The Apple logo appeared and the progress bar filled in about an hour. Then the pineapple logo came up - and here I sit.

It will not allow me to close with the power button/slide combo.
It will power off if I hold the power and home buttons for 15 seconds
It will power back up with the pineapple logo, but go no further
Itunes does NOT recognize it when connected with USB cable
Plugging USB cable in will power up to pineapple, but no further

any suggestions?

Yeah, you need to put the phone in DFU mode and restore after erasing it. :)

Just stupidity, I guess :) At my age I forget where I parked the car sometimes.
