Well, I went and did it. Mac Mini 2009 on the way.

I couldn't wait any longer.

My G4 is just a little too slow, and I actually have another use for it, so I pulled the trigger.

Sometime before next Wednesday, I should have a 2009 Mini 2.26 GHz, 4 GB RAM, 120 GB HDD.

I'll be running 2x 24" LCDs on it, but not the Apples, I have two Samsungs already.

My G4 Mini will be reformatted and turned into a work computer because I keep having Mac customers with issues. So I'll just make it official and be able to stop taking my personal media to strange LANs. 😀 Yes I should get a Macbook for such occasions, but I have a perfectly good Mini.

I'm excited. I'll now be ready for Snow Leopard.

Thank you. I'm proud of myself for waiting and not just buying the first or 2nd generation Intel models since my G4 handled itself spectacularly since intro.

But 4 years is pushing things.

I live just west of Clifton Park and just east of Schenectady

Moved out to NY after graduation for a job offer. Who knows what the future may hold. All I know is I love northern Colorado and am actually here right now on vacation.

Awesome ... I have had my 2009 Mini since the week after they came out. It was my first Mac and I enjoyed it so much I got a MacBook so I could take OS X with me. 😀
 
Your going to love it. Of course, if its the base I have I'd recommend an upgrade (RAM at the least).
 
It looks like he ordered 2.26 w/ 4gb of ram and the 120 gb HD. That is where my question stemmed from.

Most that order 120gb HD will order 1GB of ram, because they intend on adding aftermarket ram and HD.

I'm trying to figure out what to do. I'm so wishy washy, base and mod or loaded (2.26, 4gb, 320HD) and forget about it. 🙄
 
I felt that the Apple upgrades were way to expensive and that spending an additional 27% of the price of the base Mini was not worth it for 260Mhz of proc speed.

I got the base model, spent $50 on 4Gb of ram and put my 1.5Tb drive in a FW800 enclosure. The ram has since been traded with my MBP and the Mini makes a great little desktop / media server.
 
I'm in a similar boat. I got a G4 mini, at the time top of the line 1.5Ghz and put in a 7200 rpm HDD. It has served me well, but now it's way, way too little - I got bittorrent on it pretty much 24/7, and it struggles with multitasking. I'm still running 10.4.11 on it.

Time for a new mini. I'm also going for the base model and I'll add RAM and a bigger HDD myself. However, I'll wait until sometime October so it comes with Snow Leopard. That's only about 3 months from now... maybe they'll bump it up in that time (yeah, I know, 0 chance).

Because I'm maintaining about 50 torrents or so that I've uploaded, and then also sometimes I download, so it's not convenient to shut down... there's always someone who is leeching on one of the torrents, and frequently I'm the only seeder, so I can't very well shut down. That's how you get pretty much 24/7.
 
I love my Mac Mini. Its the best computer I have ever owned. I just need to get 4GB of RAM and an SSD.

Congrats on the Mini upgrade.

I also went with the 2.26 Mini and 4GB RAM, but with the 320 drive, since I want this one to last me for quite a while. Attached is a 23" 1080p display.

I was getting antsy after holding out since 2002, with that funky desk lamp-looking G4 iMac, 700mhz, 30gb RAM, 15" screen.
 
I plan to drop an SSD in there down the road.

And I have gobs of network storage, so I have no need for more than 40GB, much less 120 internally.

I did the 4GB memory direct so I didn't have to scratch the chassis just yet. 😀

I may have just guaranteed a quad core CPU bump with 8 GB of memory. It will be out in 32 days so that I'm out of the return window. 😛
 
If you do upgrade the HDD I recommend going for a 7200rpm one, it is still quiet but much much faster 🙂
