I apologize to anybody and I am not trying to insult anybody, but I was wondering is their any cases or stories where people died and came back from say Heaven or Hell?

Sure, there are plenty of books out there detailing their journey through heaven or hell. Ill try and find some links.

I personally think its a way to sell books and make a quick buck.

I knew someone who died on the operating table and came back. I asked her if she saw a bright light. She rolled her eyes at me. I took that as a sign not to ask her such silly questions again.

I've read that book...it didn't convince me of anything, other than the power of the human mind.

I think the experiences of people who have techincally died and came back to life are insufficient for any actual answer to this question. You really want to trust that the experiences of a person who had enough trauma/pain/injury to die are anywhere close to accurate?

If you lived after going to a Celion Dion concert I guess that would count as returning from hell.:D So I guess people have come back from it.

You might as well be asking if anyone has been abducted by aliens.

Personally I think there's a slight bit more of truth to alien abduction stories than these heaven and hell stories.

They're both nuts and I don't believe either one, but I think being abducted and returning to Earth is ever so slightly more plausible

I have. They did tests on me...and then probed me. Again and again and again and again and again and again. And then one more time.

And that's not the worst of it.

They made me slow dance with one of them...

+1 to anyone who knows where that quote is from. :D

This somehow reminds me of that Southpark episode where Cartmen has a satellite in his butt. :D

Well, how do we know if that story is true or false? I think it's just like any other "I've been to heaven and back!" story...complete BS. And I wouldn't believe anyone who says they've been to the afterlife but come back unless I experience it for myself, which I don't think will ever happen.

I was saying its uncalled for to say "real people" in reference to Jesus.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to derail the thread. But, I guess belief in Jesus or some other God kinda goes along with the subject. :)

Oh, okay. He existed, I will not argue that, but the entire story surrounding his birth, his death and any "miracles" he performed in life are complete crap IMO.

I am with you on this one. Of course Sky Blue is entitled to his belief but it is mildly uncalled for to specifically say Jesus is not "real people" as he is more real to people (as red stated) than say we are.

IYO, fine. You could have said "I dont believe the stories about his life" and have made just as much of an impact as "are complete crap" without disrespecting a religion and its teachings. IMO.

My mother was in a fire when i was 6. She spent 5 months in the burn unit and technically died more then once on the operating table. She spoke of the similar experiences of bright lights, hovering overherself etc...
She was not religious in any way. She chose to become christian afterward setting off years of pushing me and my sisters into any religion she could get her hands on... 3 years of orthodox jewish academy, christian youth groups, church, catholism... I could go on.... None of us accepted any of it and we all ran as fast as we could away from it as soon as we were of age.

Today, more then 30 years after the fire, my mother no longer believes in god, has become blatantly racist (and she was a flower child) and watches nothing but fox news and the home shopping network.

Did she go to heaven? I have no idea, but that one moment made athiests of all three of her children, i get nothing but cheap crap as gifts and hear nothing but "fox news is the ONLY reliable news source" And "that n****r aint my president" when i talk to her, so yes, there is a hell.

Well I don't really know about heaven/hell, but my dad always told me that story that after a motorcycle crash, he was waiting at the hospital to be taken care of, and slipped comfortably (as he put it) and closed his eyes. He says that it was one of the best feeling of his life still to this day, comfortable, bright light and all.

Well… depends how far back into her head she rolled her eyes, and if she was turning her neck 360° at the same time. ;)

There has been a body of medical research into the physiological effects of what has been described as "near death" or when there is a brief & temporary cessation of brain electrical activity. I seem to recall that humans have some deep basic neuro "programming" that can explain some of the reported phenomenon of "bright light" out of body and feelings of calm serenity. I suppose it's much like the common "falling in space" dream shared by humans.

the premise of the thread is ridiculous.

there is obviously no properly documented case of resurrection/reincarnation other than those based on faith, just as there is no evidence in any way that anything like heaven or hell exists, let alone the fact that you can come and go from there.

No it's not. The OP is asking about peoples' experiences. I see nothing ridiculous about it.

NPR did some reports on near death experiences. They were interesting to listen to. Take from them what you want.

If you're on an operating table, and there ISN'T a bright light... you're in trouble.

I was helping out with some eye surgery once. The patient was lying on the table with only local anaesthetic in the eye we were operating on (can't see from it and can't move it but the other eye is fine). About 30 minutes into the operation there was a large bang and all the lights went off. It was pitch black and eerily quiet. We had instruments inserted into the person's eye and no way to do anything. The patient asked if they were dead. The emergency generators only took about 15 seconds to kick in but it was pretty frightening for all involved. Lights are pretty integral to the operating theatre!
