Is it normal for a DVD or CD to come out hot when you eject it from the Superdrive? I was listening to a CD on Mac Mini and when I ejected the CD, the CD was very hot.

All drives use a laser to read discs, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't hot.

it all depends what you have on the disk of course. if it's a movie then the film reels get really hot because of the lamp that is used to project the movies. music isn't as hot because most music sucks these days anyway.
kidding, of course it's hot it's lasers

Could signify a problem if it is really really hot, but like the previous posts... it will be hot simply because of the laser (completely normal).

Hmm, maybe because of all the other things inside the Mini are also contributing to the heat? My DVD player doesn't eject hot disks.

well yeah mini's do tend to get hotter than other machines. it's not a real issue, dont worry about it. unless like you could cook eggs on the cd's

Could be...do you have temp readings from your optical drive you could post?

128 degrees Fahrenheit

That's fairly normal. If you are up near 200 degrees, you might have a problem (but could boil some water).

Your DVD player doesn't have a pair of 2GHz CPUs and a relatively nice GPU sitting an inch under it either ;)

Please, the "laser" in optical drives aren't anywhere near the power of industrial cutting tool lasers . . . too many viewings of Goldfinger can lead to the confusion. ;)

That doesn't change the fact that lasers still release a lot of energy, in the form of heat, even if it isn't enough to cut through anything.
