View Full Version : Best Thethering Method; PDANet or "BenM" Method?

So I just jailbroke my 3GS (finally) and I was wondering which thethering is the "best", in terms of speeds/reliability etc. Before I jailbroke I had used the method where you go to the website http://help.benm.at/help.php from the iPhone's browser and you DL the config file for your carrier and boom, done. It seemed to work great, nice speeds and such. Should be noted that I thether via USB as my PC doesn't have bluetooth or WiFi. I keep reading about this PDA Net thethering for jailbroken phones though, and was wondering if it has any advantages over the "BenM" method? Are speeds any faster (or slower)? What about resources-wise, like battery usage and such? Is it an actual program that I have to open and run everytime I want to tether? I had to restore my phone to get those iBSS and iBEC files before and never put the mobileconfig back on for the tethering. Now that I jailbroke I have the option to use PDANet, so whichever method gets the best feedback I'll end up using.

I guess pdanet is your only option now because the BenM method does not work on jailbroken phones. At least on mine it doesn't.

I have both on my 3GS, both work fine, but I heard AT%T cant detect that youre tethering thru PDAnet, just incase they want to start adding usage charges

I heard the Ben M method breaks when (if) you upgrade to 3.1. The rumor is the current 3.1 beta breaks BenM.

The best tethering method for my JB 3GS remains the benm method with 3.0 firmware. Purplera1n JB method and my MMS and tethering remain untouched by those AT&T meddling hands.....:p:p:p

I take it back. I just re-jailbroke mine and now the http://help.benm.at/help.php method works again!

Benm works on my JB phone. I tried PDAnet, couldnt get it setup on windows 7. I downloaded netshare, havent tried it yet but will when 3.1 is released.
