is it possible to turn off text smoothing in os X all together (it seems that you can only disable it for size 12 font or smaller)? Because i really don't like this feature.

use tinkertool (http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/11967)
you will also notice a slight 2D speed bump with all smoothing off.
