Hi guys, I'm in the process of backing up my DVDs for archiving and already have a PS3. I am looking into buying an Apple TV but need a little guidance. I am intent on encoding my video files into a format that can support:

a) chapter selection
b) multi channel audio
c) multiple audio tracks
d) subtitles

As far as I know the only format that supports the above is .mkv rather than m4v (which i assume is the Apple TV format).

Does the Apple TV have the capabilities to support the above or should I stick with the PS3?

Cheers, Marcel.

stick with the ps3. the applt tv is only recommended if u need to have it sync w/ itunes. but if ur movies are already on the ps3, then don't bother.

Yes, the Apple TV has he capability to support all the options you mention and they are encoded in the m4v format.
m4v is just Apple's slight variant on mp4, just as m4a is for the audio files you get from iTunes.

I have both and find the apple tv to be much easier for synching movies and watching them. If you have an itunes library with the movies in them, then Apple TV is really a great option. I would highly recommend it.
