You can copy the file to a DVD as a backup, but the DVD will be a data DVD and will not play on a DVD player. However if you're looking to use the DVD to move from one authorized iTunes library to another authorized iTunes library, aka to watch on a different computer you own, it will work to move the files. In that case I'd recommend a thumb drive.
