Similar on the iPhone, is there an application for Mac OS X Leopard that automatically adds a period after a double-tap of the space bar? Thanks.
 
I think the app is called iLazy.

Just kidding - no, I don't think there's an app for that on OS X.
 
Pages or MS Word might be able to do that for you with Auto-correct.

But seriously, the shortcut is in the iPhone because the phone can't fit a full keyboard on the screen.
