I will need to buy another 2.5" HDD to fit in my OWC caddy (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/MSTG800U2K/) sometime this summer. I have always used Western Digital and am very happy, but when do you think they will bring out a 640 or 750GB version of the Scorpio Blue?

I know Seagate have one in their FreeAgent range (albeit 12.5mm), and the WD 500 has been around a while now, is there a logical timescale to these updates?

Next year? They should release a 500GB 7200RPM first. I don't know if this is true, but maybe they might go SSD.

I don't think the 7200 has to catch up with the 5400, it is more difficult for the 7200 due to heat dissipation and data access rates. The 5400 will run cooler and not have to meet such access standards.

I don't want to shell out for a 500GB drive if a larger one is looming, I have about 750GB of data (and growing) on my 3.5". That drive is going to stay at home as 'backup' and the 2.5 is for the road.
