So a client gave me a file in .cdr format and as near as I can figure, Ilustrator CS3/4 can't open this file (feel free to prove me wrong, I would love to be wrong). Is there anyway to rectify this? Is there a common format that would work between the two programs, like .eps or CorelDRAW version 10 or something? If so, should the client "save as" or "export" to the filetype?

Your help is very very much appreciated, if I can't figure out how to do this, I will lose the job and it is a large source of income for me....so it is exceedingly important.

Thanks everyone for your time and help, I find this forum invaluable.

I've never used CorelDraw, but there may be an export option to Adobe formats, so you could ask the client. I did a quick Google search of ".cdr to .ai" and found this manual conversion service. http://cdr.altesign.com/ I'm sure if you search into this you could find something.
