If a reinstall didn't fix it, its something external to the application. Consider this and this. If I had to guess, I would suspect a problem with the iTunes Library.itl file.

should i delete the library file then scan for music in itunes?
ok never mind it did not work it still crashed after the itl was moved. im not sure what to do now. i dont have any plugins or apps open(other than safari) should i call applecare?
Did you try the test user account or try the system-wide troubleshooting steps? Alternatively there is this other link which has steps for completely removing iTunes/QuickTime which may not have been done the first time around if you just used Add/Remove Programs for XP or Programs and Features on Vista.
Ok, that changes things a bit. Sorry to go off on a long tangent there. There are steps for removing all the iTunes related files (except the music and library) from a computer running Mac OS. Have you tried these?
i have the same problem. everytime i launch the app i get the pinwheel for a while and i let it sit there and its functional, but anytime i add a song or plug in an ipod it goes back to the pinwheel and does not respond. apple mess things up with the new update?
