Does anyone know of sites where previous versions of iTunes can be downloaded from? I remember this was discussed in some previous threads but I've searched and searched MacRumors and can't find the reference (Google didn't get me any closer either).

I'm looking for the v4.1 - 4.2 range, Mac & PC.

Thanks for any pointers,

frank

cough peer-to-peer (http://www.abyssoft.com/software/mlmac/) cough

I would have given a link for Poisoned, but the project site was down when I tried to access it. And, come to think of it, I think it's legal anyways, since iTunes is free regardless. (For those that have no idea what I'm talking about...read up (www.mac-p2p.com))

Try Acquisition. Go to www.xlife.org

I tried it when it was in versions 0.5 (I think), 0.6x, 0.7x and perhaps 0.8x also. But the week that it "insisted" that I pay to use the client was also the week I started searching for other apps.

I've tried:
http://forums.macrumors.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Mactella under OS 9 - can't resume downloads
http://forums.macrumors.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Acquisition
http://forums.macrumors.com/images/icons/icon13.gif xDonkey - has too many bugs, and requires a big screen res.
http://forums.macrumors.com/images/icons/icon13.gif Limewire (free version) since version 1.4 - slow GUI

http://forums.macrumors.com/images/icons/icon14.gif mlMac - searches a lot of networks
http://forums.macrumors.com/images/icons/icon14.gif Poisoned - gives noteworthy details about the progress of a file, or why it isn't downloading
http://forums.macrumors.com/images/icons/icon14.gif mldonkey (access from current web browser) - ridiculous amount of features and works slightly better than mlMac.

It asks you if you want to pay but you don't have too.

mlMac had the nasty habit of filling up the root of my drive with log files.

I have always used www.oldversion.com to get older versions of software (uni network would block the latest versions of messenging clients but not older ones). However, it appears that the site doesn't exist at the moment (not sure if they are gone forever, or its just being renovated or something).

Yeah, that's where I was trying to find old versions too but the site was unavailable to me also, must be out of action.

I don't feel like going the P-to-P route, guess I might be out of luck. I remember reading about some sites in a previous thread about iTunes but can't find them anywhere on MacRumors.

Thanks for help!

Being a complete n00b to the iPod world, version 4.2... would it work with windows ME? Or am i just forced to upgrade?

Or..

Is there another version that will?
Thanks

(Sorry if this is an old topic, I found it in a google search.)

There are no versions of iTunes for Windows ME. They only run on 2000 or XP (or OS X of course :)). You shouldn't be using ME anyway

4.2 for Mac is on the iLife DVD, if you have it.

Nahhhh, didn't have that.

I just went ahead and upgraded both machines to iTunes 4.6 so I could get them to share. My iMac is fine, too bad the PC is just a bit underpowered for v4.6 (& Windows 2000). It's an old laptop - PII 266 w 80MB of RAM. I'm surprised W2K even loads on it! It was free so I can't complain. Even though it's very slow to open iTunes and the library sharing connection, once it starts the stream it plays quite well.

Thanks for the suggestions, glad oldversion.com is back online now.
