So they don't carry anything but the base models with 250gb 5400rpm hard drives (for 15" MBP)? I want to upgrade to the 320gb 7200rpm. If that's true that really sucks. I will have to pay another $85 then because I'll have to pay tax if shipped.
If your hard drive crashes though can't you bring it in to the store to be replaced?

Even that is 50/50. Apple doesn't really do any sort of upgrades (HDD or RAM), it depends on the person you deal with whether or not he/she will do it for you.
Some Apple stores carry multiple confiturations of models (bigger hd, more ram, etc) in addition to the standard configs. All Apple stores will upgrade ram. They have a price/sku for it, but sometimes do it for free.
