Memory upgrade

I'm running on panther and i have a mac G4 256ddr 80gb and my computer seems to be running slow especially when using imovie.Is it a good idea to install exrtra memory inside the dome or not?.
Or should i just put a new memory chip in the slot on the bottom of the computer which would give 768 ddr (is that enough)
