Hi.

This is probably a stupid question, but I'm asking it anyway.

I have dsl and the speeds were stated to be between 384kbps and 1.5mbps.

I don't get anywhere near those speeds on my powerbook. If I download any file, the speeds usually stay between 50 and 70kbps. The speeds have only surpassed 100kbps twice, and it was like Christmas.

My friend has the same dsl provider, but has a pc. Does anyone know if there are any settings I need to change on my powerbook?

Or any other suggestions?

Thanks for the help.

Your download speed also depends on the server you are downloading from.

Test your d/l speed on any of the sites mentioned in this forum.

(you should also try and search the forums before posting, many threads on this topic)

Remember 1KB = 8 Kb, or 1 kiloBYTE = 8 kiloBITS. So the 1.5mbit line is actually around 180KB per second

You do realize that downloads are represented as KB/s and not kbps, right? 384-1.5 mbps is going to give you speeds around 48-180 KB/s give or take a few due to overhead. This depends on distance from CO when using DSL and server speed you are downloading from. 50-70 KB/s with bursts into 100 fall right in line with the speed you are supposed to be at.
