On Kingston.com, a 256MB SODIMM for an iBook G3 is $172, where as a 256MB SODIMM at Datamem.com is only $53.75. What gives? Would Kingston perform better? Both have lifetime warranties. Is it all about the "name"?

it could be that kingston uses memory from a more reputable brand such as samsung and the other, cheaper ones from a generic brand. however, if you go to 1800memory.com you can find cheaper ram and they sell the same brand as apple uses in their powerbooks.

Kingston certifies that their RAM will work in your machine.
I used kingston memory in hundreds of machines and only had a few problems VERY easily replaced. (Bad RAM happens... )
Also check their Value RAM which is cheaper but fits most machines.
Hope this helps,
