YourTube is a mod, that will add extra functionality to the native YouTube iPhone App. By installing YourTube, the mod will add a new tab on the bottom bar by which you can access a Download Manager that will allow you to download YouTube videos in High or Low quality, without using MxTube.

The app will be available in Cydia, The mod will be available as an MobileSubstrate extension which means YourTube will be integrated without using too many resources.

From the screenshots below, it seems that the process is pretty simple: tap on a video and choose the High Quality (recommended if you use a WiFi connection) or Low Quality (EDGE/3G network).

Of course!!! Thats the best part. No matter where you are or how strong/weak signal you have, the videos you download will play perfectly :)

I would like to change it to weather or something

You can get Rename off Cydia to do that. I haven't tried it with 3.0 so I can't say for sure that it's compatible.

Just got YourTube and it's awesome! I'm surprised it took this long for someone to come up with it. Anyone know if I'd be able to get it on my ipod touch as well, or do I have to pay twice?

Stupid question probably, but .....how do you get the videos you just downloaded off youtube and onto your pc/mac?

With Mxtube I used to ssh into /library/mobile etc, but I am not sure where do I go now....

While I don't usually pay for something I can work around for free (Like using Ymail and TextPlus for SMS messaging), the UI integration of this makes me very tempted. Does anyone know if downloads continue in the background like MxTube? Also, if they do, can anyone see if there is a process running in the background when the app isn't open?

My one problem with MxTube is that even when you're not downloading a file they run a background daemon for downloads. I think that daemon should be killed when downloads are done and spawned when they begin... If this app gets around that then I'm all for it.

I removed MX tube but I can still see the videos when I SSH into my phone. Weird? The icon is gone and I uninstalled it from Cydia. What gives?

Anyways, this app is definitely worth $2. :D

Has anyone tried to see if it lets you run downloads in the background or leaves any always running processes?

(My wall of text didn't get any response so I am going direct :p, haha)

The videos are stored in a directory on your phone and definitely wouldn't get removed when you uninstall. Most people would want that so they could keep those videos. If you want to remove them you can delete them via SSH or copy them to your computer first with SFTP, DataCase or something.

When you download videos can you exit Youtube and will they continue to download?

I can't believe that in a month nobody in this thread has tried...

I was searching all day today and couldn't find that answer so i tried it myself.

Yourtube doesn't download in the background, once you exit the download either stops (or restarts?) but it does work in the background only if you use backgrounder.

Edit: The download will fail if it's backgrounded and goes to sleep.

I too had the same problem transfering files via DiskAid 3.1 and I finally found the solution, but here is the rub...I used the Cydia app Ifile ($1.99 on cydia but worth the price...no I am not the maker of ifile) to copy and paste all the yourtube videos to a folder I made on /mobile/library/downloads/yourtube vids then you have to rename them either with DiskAid, or within iFile deleting all characters and including the ":" in the filename. I think it is for 2 reasons, 1 windows won't allow : in the filename, and 2 probably for the same reason within Diskaid. I hope in your and other peoples case you don't have as many vids as I did (101) to rename because it is SLOW going. After I renamed all the files I just Dragged and Dropped my Yourtube vids folder to my comp and after 15 minutes all my files were on my comp. Hope that helped.

oh and p.s. it is possible to just rename them within the yourtube folder (again with DiskAid or ifile) if you are about to do a firmware update or format your iphone, as the directory structure of yourtube won't let you play the vids after you renamed them within yourtube. It still shows the file within youtube as a thumbnail but doesn't play the vids.

Has anyone else been having problems using the YourTube extension after updating to the new MobileSubstrate? I'm not even sure if that's the problem, all I know is that I've been unable to download any videos.
