I have an infraction dated May 11th on my account.
Why is it still floating around my UserCP? It's distracting and i don't want to look at it any more. Can it please be removed.
I shouldn't have to be treated like a 12 year old on this forum.

It is there permanently. It is a part of the infraction system. Only you and other moderators can see it.

what's the point of that?
Why should i have to be constantly reminded of the admin who went way OTT once?

Infractions, a feature of the vBulletin forum software we use, are a semi-automated form of warning. Infractions don't take away forum privileges as time-outs do. Since those who receive infractions know about them, the moderators know about them, and nobody else sees them, they have little importance after the fact, other than as a reminder about the rules. They stay there only because that's how the vBulletin software works. It's possible to suppress their display with third-party software, but not with vBulletin as currently installed.

well i'm sorry but i think that is ridiculous.
If they serve no purpose then why use them? A time out works just as well.

It is not Mac Rumors decision. It is the vBulletin software that Mac Rumors uses.

No one else ever sees it - who cares?

A time-out takes away access to the forums for some number of days, while delivering only a short (one-line) message. An infraction does not block access to the forums (so it's suitable for less-serious cases), lets moderators include more detail without the time-consuming actions required to send personal Private Messages, and automatically identifies the post that triggered the warning.
Given the volume of posts made at MacRumors each day, we have to take advantage of efficiencies when we can, from among the choices offered by vBulletin.

Seems like the main thing bothering the OP is that he has to see the infraction every time he goes into the User CP. Why not provide a way to hide that from being seen?

Talk to vBulletin. Not Mac Rumors.

A time out is not the same as an infraction. One can't replace the other. Now you can remember what you did incorrectly and think twice before doing it again.

Not only do i remember it, i have it staring at me EVERY SINGLE time i go to my UserCP. Quite unnecessary. Especially since i complained vehemently at the time that the infraction was incredibly unjustified and "silly".
So i'm going to have this infraction on my account in 10 years time am i?

Seeing as you have said numerous times and obviously have issues with your infraction I thought I'd take the time to explain it.
Rule 1 of the forum rules
http://guides.macrumors.com/Help:Forum_Rules#Forum_Rules
Instantly Bannable Offenses
These can be one-time bannable offenses for which you will not get a warning.
Insults. Direct personal insult of another member, i.e., "You are an idiot." and all the variations. Why? Because this isn't grade school. People should be able to discuss or even dispute other's posts without insulting people. And the only purpose of a post like this is to incite other people. You may dispute somebody's opinion, but not attack/flame the person who stated it. There are a lot of other non-direct-personal insults that won't necessary get you banned instantly, but depending on the context/nature may lead to post editing, post deletion, warnings, or time-outs. They include telling people to shut up, or being extremely or repeatedly rude or sarcastic. Bottom line -- don't try to tick off others. Although we do not read Private Messages sent between forum members, the rules for appropriate and inappropriate content apply to them as well.
__________
The infractions system acts as a strong warning in place of a time-out by them remaining in place they stay as a reminder of the behaviour that produced the warning.
