Right now I'm working a summer job as a waiter...so if I'm getting up in the morning it's because I'm on breakfast shift (at work at 6:30), which means that multiple alarm clocks going off at once get me up. :p Speaking of which....I've got to be at work in 6:20. FML.

Okay, in all honesty ... What gets me up is knowing that others lives literally depend on me being at work, and prepared, on time. I'm one of the people that truly loves my job, and while I may not want to get out of bed ... once I am, I am stoked about the day.

And then eight more.
I am fairly certain these pills are no good for me but they're my new craze. I mean, the warning label itself takes up about 2/3s of space on the bottle. Got them the other day and they add such a boost to my workout routine it's ridiculous. I haven't seen any weight loss yet but it hasn't even been a week yet. Also suppresses your appetite, which is good. I mean, I was literally tweaked out on this stuff this morning when I popped three and went to the grocery store. I was gliding down the isles and stuff. And I woke up at 11AMish, after going to bed at 7AM that same day.

I loathed getting up early for work after Uni, 12am was a good time for me to get up. I simply had no motivation for any of the jobs I was in.. now I run my own business, and I can't get a decent night's sleep anymore. I just want to be at my laptop checking over orders, answering enquiries - sleep is a necessary evil these days!
It's 6.28 am here now for example, been up since 5 and I love it..
I used to think I was suited for legal work, and never had any motivation for business. But it turned out that I had developed a number of creative skills and a strong business sense over the past few years and gradually it dawned on me - time to put it all to good use.
Like to guys above are saying, you have to find what you really enjoy doing and make the move / take the risk depending on what it is. People with creative jobs, jobs with lots of internal satisfaction or jobs with lots of freedom are most likely to be the happiest..

Honestly, nothing gets me up. I graduated in May and still haven't found a job. So I'll wake up at around 11:00 (now) and start applying for jobs and making calls to HR departments. I head to bed around 3:00AM after watching some movies and TV and it all starts over again. Once or twice a week I will wake up before 6 o'clock in the morning, because a local golf course has an "early bird" special for 20 bucks w/ a cart before 7:00.

I also find my job boring and unsatisfying though I'm trying to think of ways I could turn that around. What gets me up is that fact that in this recession I haven't found anything better and what I do now pays the bills. If I got laid off or fired I would get a crappy severence and be pretty desparate after about two months.
I defintely think its worthwhile to do what you love if you can pull it off! It's what I aspire to.

I hope I'll be able save peoples' lives when I get older. In the meantime, the alarm gets me up to volunteer at the local hospital. I work with terminally ill children. I just love seeing them smile. Then I truck along to my job who can legally pay well below minimum wage.

This time of year, the morning light generally wakes me. Since it has been grey and gloomy most of the summer so far, I have overslept on many a morning.
Failing the light alarm, my backup is a calico cat with the face of a clown, a heart of stone and an all-consuming anxiety over whether there will ever, ever be another breakfast served in this house. She has a voice that could wake the dead.
I think the other cat sleeps down in the studio at the far end of the place, just to avoid the hungry one's tales of woe every morning. That studo-sleeper is my time-to-go-to-bed alarm cat. She likes the lights to be turned off in the studio when she wants to sleep and will come and harass me to kill the lights in there.
In winter, nothing wakes me except my bladder. Both cats are then under the comforter at the foot of the bed and refuse to come out until they sense that the woodstove downstairs has been fired up and is finally wafting some heat to the bedrooms. Then they bring their wussy little selves down for breakfast on demand.

Three things:
- Work. I still like what I do, though not necessarily the company I work for. It pays the bills and I have many more good days than bad so I think I'm doing pretty well on that count.
- The Colm and Jim-Jim Breakfast Show. As morning radio shows go, it's actually fairly entertaining. A damn sight better than the 98FM Morning Crew, which we used to have on (at the wife's insistence.)
- A very loud eight-month old. As much as I wish I could sleep past 6.30am (not an issue during the week, but at weekends...) without hearing 'BA! BA! BA!' over the baby monitor, the subsequent sight of the little guy grinning up from his cot is a great way to get started.

Generally, having to use the bathroom. During the summer, this can be anywhere from 8 AM to 3 PM.
School days, it never fails to happen 15 minutes before my alarm clock goes off...and I can't force myself to stay awake until then, so I'm off for 10 minutes of unrest-full sleep and a jolting alarm. :(

Interesting, because I love waking up, then falling asleep for a short time, and waking up again.
If I have to get up at 6:30 I set two alarms--one for 6:20 and the other for 6:30. I go to sleep in between. It helps me wake up and be alert.

I actually like mornings and I like getting up early. There's just something, especially in the summer, about the smell of wet grass and the sun. :-/
Now, going to sleep for 8+ hours is a different story. I can function pretty well with only 3-4 hours but I imagine is pretty unhealthy.

Don't get up.
Don't go to work.
Don't get paid.
Can't buy things/pay for bills.
Epic fail.
Or the thought of a nice breakfast/cold shower motivates me. Plus, it helps if I have something to look forward to, like dinner with friends, or going to watch a movie after work. It makes the day go by much faster.

And no, I'm not talking about getting a fix for your wet willy.
I find my job to be boring and unsatisfying, but a lot of people still do what they do because they have to. But even if you do enjoy your work, there's always a point where it will become mediocre...i'm trying to to find out if one should really pursue what they want or just get a job like the rest of the world and move on...
I think you should pursue what you want to do but be realistic about it. The truth is that not everything “someone wants to do” is good way to make a living and fulfill your responsibilities. That’s why some things are called “hobbies”.
The other realistic part is that if what you want to do is competitive and you are not very good at it, perhaps you’re better off going where the money is. The world is about competition sometimes and this is why a lot of people “just get a job”. You might want to be the next Michael Jackson, but in reality, no matter how much you love singing and dancing, most people are not cut out for that type of work.
However if you DO have a talent and think you will get satisfaction from having success with such talent, then I think you should take an opportunity to pursue it because you never know what the future will bring. And sometimes it’s better to have tried and failed than to look back on life thinking that you were a chicken. Of course sometimes you have to weight this pursuit with present responsibilities if they conflict. That would be a personal call.
There is nothing “wrong” with “just getting a job” that makes a living. If people didn’t do that, many of society’s operations will not work, obviously. In the history of civilization, there are leaders and there are followers. Some of these leaders exhibit characteristics such as talent, passion, or simply some unstoppable compulsive behavior that turns out to be productive. The overwhelming majority follow these people in one way or another…whether it’s to make computers…or to wage war. You just have to understand whether you are a soldier or a general and be the best you can be at what you do.

Working is pretty relaxing compared to school. I can "sleep in" (in other words i get to go to bed earlier cause I don't have as much stuff to do), dont have to be in at any particular time (unlike class), and it's generally alot of fun. I guess im lucky to have gotten into software development since its something I can do without getting bored.

Weekends: Being stared at, kissed by, or otherwise snorgled by said BF. :) This either happens at his house or mine, depending on the weekend.
