what kind of smart playlists do you have set up in itunes?
i have all of my songs rated and in the "group" field i have put in moods such as "chill" "rocking", "love", "happy" or "chill - love" to help these but here are my playlists:
4-5 Stars
Chill 4-5
Rocking 4-5
Neglected 4-5 (4 or 5 star songs i havn't listened to in over a month
Never Played
Not Rated
Ungrouped
Just Added
I'm wondering if there is a way to create "snapshots" of a month to so say june 2003 this is what i listened to this many times, but i don't think the xml library keeps that kind of data, if anyone knows how to let me know please!

Howard-
I seriously suggest checking out some of the links in my sig especially iTunesRegistry and Musicmobs to keep better track of what you listen to in a month. Audioscrobbler is very good also...
A new thing I'm doing is simply taking a couple of CDs worth of MP3s that I want to hear soon and putting it into a "specific request" normal folder. I then create a smart playlist to select all the songs from the specific request folder that have not been played before the date that I want to listen to all the songs started. This is a good way to listen randomly to a few CDs that you want to hear without having to restart your random play every time you update the iPod.

cool suggestion,
btw check out my sig, i use itunes registry as well, and music mobs... so far music mobs has been a lot faster, however the layout isn't as nice and doesn't have a lot of the features as far as stats go when compared to itunes registry, both great sites though. however none have been able to research what i want specifically, infact i think it is impossible as the xml library file i don't believe keeps track of all the dates of every playcount

Oh, here's replay specifically to the thread:
I call this smart playlist, Not Getting Enough Play
Okay, I realized I have lots of 3-5 rated songs that are just not getting enough play. So here's how I'm making sure they're getting some play for now on:
Match the following conditions:
Play Count is less than 3
My Rating is greater than 2
Limit to 25 minutes selected by random
Note: I use the timed settings for how long I'm likely to listen to a group of songs while I'm working. I could have also, of course, limited it to just a number of songs, or no limit at all, but I want to make sure I'm just not playing the same old songs all the time. 25 minutes will give me about 5 or 6 favorite songs that I won't mind playing a couple of times. With the live update, of course, these songs will be bumped off the list after they've gotten some play.
I especially turn to this list when I get tired of listening to my most popular, most played, songs.
