Amazing!! I have OCD, so I love anything thats sleek and organized.

When I move my G4 into my room in a year or two, I hope to make it as clean looking as that. Simply amazing!

The table was $1,300 and it was absolutely worth every penny. The current iMacs are so beautiful that I really set out to find something that would compliment it well and I love the look. Thanks for the compliments.

That is a reflection. The coating they use is VERY high gloss.

Meyvn
Dec 30, 2005, 01:17 AM
Yes, it is a reflection. Quite high gloss, and EXTREMELY scratch resistant. I actually had to take photos of it from three different angles before I could get my own reflection out of the picture when getting the back of it. Yes, it was a Colorware job. Yes, it was worth it (seeing the lit-up white Apple logo on the black surface by itself is just amazing). It's sitting on an iLap, which I've found to be an excellent cooling and ergonomics solution.

I was lucky enough to get a mac keyboard to go along with an icurve, and a microsoft laser wireless mouse, for my 12" ibook. The only thing i'm questioning is if i should keep the wired keyboard or take it back and pay the difference for the wireless keyboard.

I was noticing the majority of pics posted here have set-ups that includea wireless keyboard. Now i obviously don't have anything that can compare with you guys, but would you take back the wired keyboard and pay the difference for a wireless, or why would you keep the wired keyboard. Thanks in advance guys.

Was it really worth paying $150 for that keyboard? I love it and I think I want to move to wireless, but I just wondered if it was worth it. I mean keyboards get dirty, wear out (my space bar is half shinny because the texture wore off from use)...so I wondered.

Yes, 100% absolutely yes. It was worth every penny, to me anyway. I'm in the UK, so I paid in pounds sterling rather than US dollars. The cost for the keyboard was £62 including shipping and taxes. Compare that with the £30-40 I would expect to pay for a so-called "multi-media keyboard" and I'm sure you can agree - I got a pretty good deal.

A product is worth whatever a customer is prepared to pay. As a programmer, I spend the vast majority of my computer time on the keyboard and, sadly, the standard Apple keyboard just doesn't cut it in this kind of environment.

Yes the keyboard will get dirty (I don't care, it's a tool - not an ornament). Yes it will eventually wear out or suffer mechanical failure (but there's a 5-year guarantee for peace of mind)... and yes, the characters might well wear off (but I'm a touch typist anyway so I can cope a little better with that than most).

Ultimately none of the potential drawbacks matter. What matters is that, at last, I have a keyboard that I am comfortable with. A keyboard that enhances my productivity rather than diminishing it.

By the way, the Matias Tactile Pro (http://matias.ca/tactilepro/) isn't a wireless keyboard. I wouldn't have bought it if it was - a wireless keyboard is no use to me.

Thanks! Although I don't know whether I should take the Ikea thing as a comment. I think I will though. My dad doesn't have any time for the desk-making business. It only took about 1 week to make, buying materials to finishing it. Thanks for the comment!

I have two of them but the second is really yellowing and will only support a resolution of 1024 by 512 or something wierd, but it is really clear, the one I have pictured supports 1024 by 768, same as my ibook, but some of the time it starts to wierd out and get fuzzy and full of lines, they are the same model though, its pretty wierd

My external drive is hidden in the drawer behind the keyboard and didn't make it into the picture. It's difficult to get a decent picture, because my desk is literally 3 feet from a wall. The speaker on the right is a satellite to my 5.1 system that is hooked up to my airport express, dvd player, and xbox.

Oh my frickin' god do I ever!

Long story here:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=170527

Short story:
I've removed the DVD drive and put the hard drive where it was. I've installed a fan where the HD used to be, blowing on the black heatsink. There's also a fan in the base, blowing up. I'm still gettin' temps in the 60's under load. I just now finished taking it apart and spreading Arctic Silver between the processor heatsink and the Cube heatsink, and am hoping that brings it down a few degrees.

Edit: I should mention that it's got a dual 1.5Ghz card in it, in case you don't notice my sig. Yeah. Runs kinda hot.

I'm sure there are many different ways, but I prefer to do it from within iPhoto, it's very easy.

From the menu -> Share -> Export -OR- Apple + Shift + E, and adjust the size from within there.

I made a Plugin for finder, here I'll attach it, it allows you to CTRL+CLICK on an Image and go to Automator and resize the image (greatest end resulting in Pixel or Percent) So if I had an image of 1024x768 and I changed it to scale to 640 it would end up as 640x480. Here: Just copy it to
/Users/your_user_name/Library/Workflows/Applications/Finder/

Otherwise open it in Automator and save it as a Finder Plugin

Unfortunately, while Apple upgraded the processor to a 16 MHz 68030, they kept the 16-bit data path, making the speed improvement minimal (the 68030 was a 32-bit processor). The LC II sold for $1240, making it one of the more affordable Macs ever. It was discontinued in March 1993, when it was replaced by the LC III. In September 1993, it was bundled with several different hard drives and software, and rereleased as the Performa 400, 405, 410, and 430"

In case you're wondering, the lighting isn't *that* drastically different between the two pictures. We moved and one room had Coca-Cola red walls while the other has really unpleasant brown ones. As soon as we're able, we'll go back to the red! One thing that *is* somewhat obscured by the lighting is signficantly better cord control than we had at the previous house.

We bought the phone after hearing a horror story from my mother about a Boy Scout who couldn't call his parents bring a medication he needed because he didn't know how to use a rotary phone. I love the way it looks and sounds (because it's got a real metal bell, it's very easy to tell my phone from that of any neighbor when it rings while I'm outside) but I still hardly use it because I'm a fidget and feel trapped by the cord. In fact, our cordless is sitting right beside it right now.

Not to mention the front corners being rounded instead of square like only the 1st and 2nd gen iPods were. ;)
Alright we've had our fun of flaming this dude about his iPod. Now lets give him the benefit of the doubt that maybe the 1st Gen iPod is in a drawer

Actually, the 10 GB model (along with the 20 GB model) was the 2nd gen iPod. The 1st gen includes ony the original 5 GB.
Incorrect. 10GB 1st Gen were made for about 4 months before the 2nd Gen came out. I own a 10GB 1st Gen. I can take pictures to prove it if you like. You will notice two things, the top connector Firewire port has no cover like the 2nd Gen, and the "iPod" engraving on the back is with the old font, while the 2nd Gen had the new font.

I assume you don't want to know about the "gray-box" sitting to the left. The monitor is a Gateway FPD2185W (21"@1680x1050, 16:10 widescreen). The speaker bar attached to the bottom of the monitor is for the Mac Mini, and the 5.1 speaker set for my Windows machine. Camera dock is for a Kodak V530 which I just bought as a little reward for finally cleaning my room up (yeah, like it'll last  ). I use a separate keyboard and mouse for my Windows machine and Mac.

and, here's the Mac:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y57/pjarvi/000_0006.jpg

I have the Belkin USB hub, but need to keep a remote control in front of it at night, to block the light from the LED. The light doesn't turn off when the Mini is off, and it faces my bed. I'm using the Mac for reading digital magazines, and as a media box (music, movies, pictures).

I have the Micro and the SP+, between the 2: I prefer the Micro. I find I have to tilt the SP+ a lot to get the screen at an optimum angle. The Micro also has a built-in headphone jack. One dowsnide to the Micro though, the Select and Start buttons are in a hard to reach location, particularly when you are in the middle of a playing a racing game and need to pause. My hands tire faster with the Micro than the SP as well.

Okay, I'm wildy brand new, but I kind of owe all of you for the speakers I just got for my birthday, so I'm thanking you by posting my last and current set-up (the latter completed just tonight---I *ought* to be in bed!).

Present:

G5 Quad 2.5 GHz with 23" display and Altec Lansing speakers. :)

Love the phone!

One iMac is for nothing except music. Only garageband, logic express, and sibellius are instaled on it. The other iMac is for just iTunes, iPhoto, e-mail, watching movies, etc...

One xbox is modifed with a 250GB hard drive full of games. The other one is running linux and is acting as a file server on the network.

On the question about the microphone. The Griffin works much better for picking up a person speaking, but the iSight picks up more stuff in the room. The bummer about the Griffin is that you have run it through the Griffin iMic.

I have two of the new Intel imacs on the way here now, which have the cameras and mics built in.

I haven't got to test it out extensively yet, but from what I can tell from just web browsing and iPhoto, iTunes, etc., it definitely runs better. Expose is a lot smoother, as well as dashboard. I didn't know that the GeForce 4 MX was a better graphics card, but that seems like the case.

I'd definitely recommend the MDD. It IS pretty loud, but of course you probably already knew that. I'd always heard about it being loud and it definitely is, but it doesn't bother me that much.

This is the computer I use most (ironically its the one not in my sig), I am not picturing the PowerMac because the desk is a mess and it's not really anything special (just a G5 and a Display + Photo equipment [which is cluttering the desk]). The G4 MDD is running as a server and the Cube is at work. The PowerBooks are scattered around the house (where ever I used them last and just left them there).

Well, as part of my "Get a New MacBook When They Come Out and are Revised" scheme. I have had to temporaily downgrade to a Mac mini from my 1.33 GHz iBook :( I'm not very happy about it, and I can really tell a difference between the two snappyness wise ... but, in the long run I guess I will be happy ... especially if I can buy a MacBook (assuming that is what they will call the intel ibooks). So, here is my 1.25 GHz Mac mini with only 256MB of RAM. Oh well, at least I'm still running Tiger...

Yep, I just got done watching the upgrade video over at Crucial for the mini and think I will be ordering at least a 512 stick this week. Really that should get my by because I don't do to that much that is intensive, I just like a better response when opening programs, switching between windows, etc...

Don't forget the 1.33GHz 12" iB G4's has support for CoreImage whereas the MacMini's do not;
ATI Radeon Mobility 9550 vs. ATI Radeon 9200 - both 32MB, iBook and Mac Mini respectively.

Ok, as a first timer here on these forums, here's what I got right now. I am in the process of buying another desk so it's pretty messy right now. Also, an Intel iMac is in the works in a few more months.

cheers, i love my denon to bits. I had the soundsticks for a while but in my opinion they just didnt deliver what the denon is capable of. Ive had the UD-M30 for 4years now and its still in perfect condition. I also have the DHT 550 surround set for the projector and that blows me away all the time.

If i would have anything else apart from denon it would be probably be a bang & olufsen setup.

could talk for hours about how awesome denon are.

I can understand your excitement. I feel the same way when I get a new bit of kit.

Nice setup.

Love the mousepad. Problem is now I can't get the image of a very sweaty Steve Ballmer yelling "Developers! Developers!" out of my mind. I can't get rid of it, eeeewwww it's horrible!!!

Definitely one of the nicest setups i've ever seen (those are 3 30s and a dell in the corner).

Again, this is NOT my setup. :(

It all ads up, he is in the porn industry ;). Check out his other pics on flickr, didn't know you could post nudes!

You made me look. :o

But that's not porn, he's just a photographer who can smooth-talk women to go nude in front of his lens. Kudos to him :D.

Nw43, do you have to move the imac when you are ready to put a cd/DVD into the slot it looks real close to the wall. Nice set by the way.

I noticed that too when lookign at the photo again - it's not normally quite that close to the wall. But yeah, I do normally have to move it a little bit to get a disc in/out. I haven't quite managed to get the right compromise between comfortable viewing angle and practicality! :) The desk isn't really big enough either to have it straight in front of me.
