It's an Ergotron LX Notebook arm or something like that ...

http://www.ergotron.com/3_products/keyboard/LX_notebook/default.asp

There's the link. It's about $120, depending on where you get it, but it's way cool! I'm getting a similar item for my LCD monitor.

Here's where to buy:

I don't like the look of that actually. But if I had an external display it would be cool to have it on a flexible wall mount, so it would look like it was floating in the air.

Pfft. I reckon the box has character. I have my iBook on a bit of polystyrene packing insert with some cardboard on top and some little bits of polystyrene under the corners to provide more airflow.

Yup, I now have two monitors..... that's 2048x768 of massive screen real-estatey goodness.

Who needs an iCurve when you've got stuff hanging around from moving?

Sadly the polystyrene iPod dock had to be retired as it was annoying me and the Mighty Mouse is off to the AppleCentre tomorrow morning for the second time (I don't think it likes humidity, this is the second time my scroll ball's jammed up).

And it is a recent photo, I just haven't been bothered to change the calendar page - it's nice to be able to look at a photo of Arizona under snow when it's so damned hot down here.

My setup has been changed a little bit....more finalized. I purchased a belkin KVM switch to share this monitor, mouse, keyboard, and speakers between my Mac Mini and Athlon 64 system. iBook is sitting on top of my tower on an iCurve. Thinking of something I can do with it, might just sell it for like $300, it does have a broken hinge (Monitor is more or less only attatched by the wires, long story involving cat jumping on ibook, icurve, and cement floor) I do wish that the KVM switch supported my 5.1 speakers but 2.1 is fine since I'm rarely blasting my sound.

I'm actually right handed, and that black thing on the right is a "vertical mouse" of the Evoluent brand. It's supposed to be better ergonomically, but doesn't seem to work better for me, than other mice. My hands hurt from using computers :( so I alternate between the two mice.

The PB is off centered on the box....nice by the way....ummm the box seems kinda high.

Thanks. The table is a bit low (tabletop about 72cm from the floor), so the top of the screen is a bit below the level of my eyes. Yeah, off center on the box. But it's obviously not meant to fit there, just a temporary solution.

nice setup afro - the chrome and glass with the silver Creatures is very nice indeed. The XBOX 360 makes it all look like crap, though, ha! (:-p)

Curious though, how often you have to clean the glass - seems to me I would go nuts over all the smudges from palms, fingers, etc...

I have kids with grimey hands, so maybe I'm just skeptical due to that, lol.

Thanks for all the compliments people! :D The desk is called the A-Line computer desk, which I bought online for around $220. Here's (http://www.artsuppliesonline.com/catalog.cfm?cata_id=7930) a link to it. That site is a little overpriced though.

To answer your question about smudging, I have only had to clean it off a few times in the past month because I'm an only child and only my friends come into my room most of the time. The glass is beautiful though. Nice, thick, and sturdy. The only thing you have to think about is the amount of wires you have under the desk because you are always looking through it.

No real problem with smudges though. Cleaning the glass is very easy with Windex. Takes a few seconds!

Yes, as you can see the Dell display is MUCH brighter than my PowerBook. I hate to see it, but that's just how it is. :( I wonder how the MacBook Pro's screen brightness compares to the Dell 2005FPW. Anyone know?

I heard that the Dell FPW displays use the exact same panels as Apple's displays. So if that's right, and Apple isn't b.s.ing that the macbook pro screens are as bright as the cinema display screens, then they should be equal, though its hard to believe.

Well, I'll be goin' down to the Michigan Ave Apple Store this evening, so if no ones replied by then, I'll try and get a MacBook Pro next to a Cinema Display and let ya'll know how it looks.

Edit: I went, and they won't really let you move those things around. At all. But from what I could tell, it looked to be as bright. But that's from a few feet away that I was comparing them.

They have the same panels, but that doesn't mean they have the same backlight. The Dells and ACDs could have differences in brightness.

Well, I was at the Apple store last weekend, and although I didn't do a direct comparison between the ACD and MacBook Pro's screens, there was a MacBook Pro and 17" PowerBook sitting side-by-side. And holy crap the MacBook Pro's screen looked absolutely amazing next to the 17" PowerBook; it was incredibly bright. :p

I know both Apple and Dell's desktop displays use the same panels (i.e. Cinema Display and 2005FPW), but as far as notebooks go, I'm not sure. All I know is my PowerBook's display needs to be brighter!

And, Oblivious, yes it's an IKEA Jerker... and it's my baby. :D

Man, I've been wanting one of those for a while now. I'm looking to head to IKEA next weekend to get one since I'll be getting my license next week (assuming I pass the drivers test, that is).:D

I've been needing this much space for a while now and I finally have it. I can actually use my Dell monitor as my primary display and my PowerBook's LCD as my secondary. It's great to have this much screen real estate, plus tons of actual desk space. Did I mention I love it? :D

And good luck on your drivers test! It should be easy. :)

Why did you say the Mac mini doesn't like DVI? I'm obviously missing something here...

Here's a good discription that someone gave to me when I was on the Apple forums about the dvi problem:

"The 1680 x 1050 resolution usually results in a pixel clock that lies between the range of 135 MHz and 154 MHz, and the G4 mini with ATI graphics has this really strange disclaimer about coherent TMDS vs. non-coherent TMDS relating to DVI pixel clocks between that range of frequencies. Unfortunately, some mini owners with 1680 x 1050 monitors have had to use a program called SwitchRes X that allows for the making of a custom timing with the goal being to try and reduce video blanking until the pixel clock drops down to, or below, 135 MHz."

I had to use that program and to fix the problem. Works great now! :)

wow cool, ive been debating the viewsonic. how does it perform? what's the resolution like?

It's looks really nice. My old 19" NEC monitors at 1600x1200, text was kinda blurry, and I had to sit closer to see it. With the viewsonic, its native resolution is 1680x1050 - stuff its alot brighter and sharper, very easy to read stuff even at a distance. I'll probably pick up a second lcd when apple releases a intel powermac, and do dual monitors with that.

Well, i can't help myself, I have to post up a new picture. I ended up returning the iMac I got due to its very large amount of problems, and Apple was kind enough to give me a full refund. But, for now, here ya go:

I don't think its a problem with the new intel mac minis, because the video card is different. I think the intel minis are an intel video chip.

I'd like to get a 5.1 sound system, but I don't have any convient place to put rear speakers.

I might have forgotten a few. But that pretty much sums it up. A tally I took once totaled over 75 due to repeat machines. Also, these are all fully functional machines, not any dead or parts machines.

Some of the fun machines are my G4 AGP with a 1.8ghz G4, an 8100 with a G3, a 6100 with a G3, and a Quadra 900 with a 50mhz 68040 upgrade. Oh yeah and of course my 1400c with a 466mhz G3.

First time I ever used a Mac was in September of 2000. Shortly therafter is when I started building this collection.

Oh I almost forgot my Motorola Starmax clone...

I only have really huge pictures online and don't want to mess up the flow of this thread with those.

I live at college, but my computers are still at home, which is a 5 bedroom, 4 bathroom house with a full basement shared between two people (my mom and I).

Needless to say, there is plenty of room.

I finally wall-mounted my iMac today. Pictures of the entire process can be found here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=186515).

Please ignore the power cable and FireWire cable hanging at the back - I shall cover those up very soon, just too pooped now!

Keep workin on the printer. HP's printer drivers aren't the best but they are great printers! I know my Deskjet 5740 was stubborn when installing it for the first time a couple of years ago. Just wouldn't install. Try download drivers from HP site and see if that helps.

The eMac will do that to you. It seems like just a computer but soon you'll get addicted to it (I am pretty much the biggest eMac fanboy in the world). :p

Nice set-up, the Simpleshare drive seems like a neat idea for sharing your music. I know for me I have my music on two computers plus my iPod, and it takes up space on two harddrives, with the Simpleshare I could put it all on one and share between these two machines. Umm.. seems like a nifty idea.

Then again... I hope you have all your music backed up. Having my music on three different sources is like having two back-ups. I wouldn't mind having it on another harddrive, but maybe only for storage and not sharing.. Something else to think about. umm..

Nice set-up non-the-less...

Yeah, it's backed up on the 200GB drive next to it, actually. I actually lost about 20GB of music a few months back, and had to re-rip a ton of CDs, so I've been pretty careful about backing it all up now.

Thank you! No other computer could positively enhance the look of my room like the Mac does.

I keep it by the side of my bed with the TV and Sky remotes - I can actually wake the mini from sleep, play music, video etc, or watch TV and put the mini back to sleep again without going anywhere near it. Fantastic, and so simple. I played with a Media Centre PC the other week, but for all it's functionality I'm far more impressed with Front Row. When in Frontrow, you hold down the "Play" button on the remote, and it'll put the Mac to sleep. Of course, on my Mini it then crashes Frontrow when you try to wake up, so you have to force a reboot. Fun times.

I just checked out your step-by-step build on this thing, and damn, I'm impressed. I've wanted to do something similar with my Cube now that the mobo is fried, but I haven't been sure where to begin. How does the Cube handle the task? I believe you said you were using the 600Mhz version of the board on your page - is this sufficiently fast? Are you running XP on it, or what?

Thanks, and sorry if it seems kinda off-topic. Rockin' setup, either way!

Hi

Thanks for the feedback always nice to hear what people think of my projects.

Yes its the 600mhz mini-itx board , it has 512mb of ram and runs windows xp sp2 , it runs this fine. Its no high speed gaming rig but for serving files and browsing the web its fine. I've the 1.2ghz version of the board and thats a bit quicker but with the cube I wanted a 100% fanless solution. Its almost totally unaudable and never gets turned off. It survived a lan party with 50 people leaching of it 24/7 without a single crash or failure of any kind.

Just so you know - G4 Mac mini's with the ATI 9200 radeon cards can have trouble with high resolutions and dvi with certain lcds (including the one i bought) - but usually there is a fix. I had an issue, but used SwitchResX to create my own resolution refresh rate. Everything is working great now. Here's a link to more info...

Yea, the speakers are quiet nice for what I paid - the bass is great.

The resolution is 1680x1050

You should spread them out a bit more. They'll sound better.

Maybe an iCurve is in order for you. Get that screen closer to you and get a better view in general - save your eyes =).

2 things about pic quality:
1. Pic taken with a Casio Exlim
2. It's the light, not the camera, that makes that look.

The cables on the right are what I use for phone charging and USB/Firewire inputs because the PM is on the floor over to the right.

Clean setup. So you just use Reason to compose music, or do you incorporate the keyboard and all?

I'm truly torn between what my future setup shall look like.

I've recently had about $3,000 plopped into my lap out of the blue, and even though I just bought Apple Care for my 14" iBook G4 a month or so ago...I want a new Mac now! AHH!

Everyone is advising me to save the cash and maybe just get an Canon Rebel XT if I absolutely need to have something new to play with, but I'd be much happier with an iMac or a MacBook Pro.

GAH, decisions, decisions.

Yeah man! Logic is the one for mac though! You can have everything else, but logic is a sweet app, it looks good and sounds good! But its really not what you use! But how you use it!

But in the mean time! Logic logic, and Reason!

How does $3,000 just plop into your lap????

I mean seriously. As far as I know typically someone doesn't come up to you and say:

"Oh, you look like a nice person. Here is 3,000 bucks cash. Spend it however you'd like."

fair enough, but It would be one thing if you were doing before & after, but seeing as you have no after pics yet (your sig says your MBP is on the way) your really just posting an odd assortment of old PCs.
