This is my humble setup. I'm pondering whether to add a widescreen display to it (since i have a new desk on the way) or just get an iMac as a backup system. Hmmmm...choices choices choices

The problem is that I'm leaving in 3 days and I feel that the time and effort spent cleaning up is better spent writing my essay and studying for my final....

Don't worry guys, next year I'll have a wondrously clean setup and I'll post pictures then!

Try reading; he doesn't know how to resize.

Download the program called "imagewell". Open it and drag the picture into the space. Once it's in there, you can just drag the meter down to 60% or so and then go to file and do save. It will save it as a different file type small enough to fit on MR, and will be the right size.

thanks mate like i say i am new to mac's and was trying to resize it with iphoto.

In iPhoto, click the pics you want to resize, and go up and select "Export" - it should let you choose the size you want to export as. Oh, but if you select multiple pictures, I believe they have to be the same original size or orientation.

Caleb, it's working great so far. It's a lot better than working with it on my lap and straining my neck that way. I almost bought a Mac Mini to use for a desktop but I decided to keep the money and save the time of transferring files between the computers. I suggest you get an iCurve too. Well having used PC's up until 2 years ago, a change to Macs was so refreshing it's untrue.

The "mac and music" certainly go hand in hand - get yourself some gear!! I run a completly software based studio as you can see, and it gets me by. (btw what you don't see is a yamaha motif plus a piano - the M-Audio Keystation only handles very basic input.)

The apartment is all tied to gether wirelessly. If anyones really that intrigued by this, i'll take some pics, but otherwise no real need.

Actually there isn't many 17" PowerBooks on here...& your setup sounds awesome! You should post it if it isn't too inconvenient.

I love myset up. Yes the HiFi are hooked up to my Mini and used as speakers, and they work great. Having it on the shelf is great because it fills my room nicely and doesn't bother my neighbors with the hard bass sound that my old JBL creatures on the floor had. I use to have a PB, but since I was at my desk 99% of the time.. this was the setup to go with.

That is nice, when I was 14 a computer at all was a luxury. Of course then I began working and eventually had a PC desktop...meh..but yeah, now I enjoy my PB.

I purchased iLife 06' (upgraded from 05) and I keep getting problems. I am thinking of just wiping out the hard drive on my PB and reinstalling OS X Tiger and seeing what will happen when I put iLife 06. Sometimes it just randomly quits on me without warnings, just quits (iDVDand iMovie in particular). Oh well, sorry for getting out of topic there, just frustrating.

Thank you!

Unfortunately it's not HD, it's the Sony PD-170 DVCAM. It's a superb camera, and it's enough for me as the nature of my work doesn't always require the bleeding edge.

The small Mini DV camera, also by Sony, still holds really well! It has a great Carl Zeiss lens.

I also have a Super 8mm Sankyo camera which isn't shown.

1. Apple ][+ (16k, cassette's and all.)
2. Sinclair ZX80 (My parents were threatening to take away my Apple. So I had to purchase this on the sly. It was affordable to someone in high school. It's probably still at my Dad's house in a drawer somewhere.)

5. Mac 128
6. Mac 512ke
7. Mac Plus

21. Power Mac 9600
22. Power Mac G4
23. Power Mac G5 (just sold it)
24. MacBookPro
25. ??? (I have to replace the G5...)

I owned my own typesetting shop from #7 - #20. I would pick up older Mac's, add some memory, HD, etc. and use them for DTP stations, so I may have missed some. I was always upgrading my personal workstation and passing them down the line. Those were the days of SCSI. You'd just attach the drive in an external case, copy all the data, then sit back and enjoy the speed increase. I went through many systems that way. Then when the company went away, I took the PowerComputing machine.

Notes: This list also doesn't include the many PC compatibles that have passed through my hands. What's great, is that up until about six months ago, my computer I used at my work was a 7600/132. It just had keeping up with some of the newer software, so I had to retire it. Old Mac's are still very useful.

What the hell are you talking about? I never said I was jealous nor any of us did. The fact that he needs 5 thousand computers to survive or that daddy can buy them is not my problem. See, you should focus your anger on those kids who post their setups and say how great they are instead of us older people (and I use that term loosely for those young mature audiences) who for the most tend to be helpful in regards to letting them know how this can be seen as snobbish or even in bad taste to others. You musn't jump to conclusions that we're all jealous and want their systems so badly, because it really doesn't matter what they own or what any of us owns, it's just a forum where people show their stuff..kinda like a car show...

This brings up the issue of what can be seen as snobbish or can be taken in bad taste. See, if you worked hard all your life and owned your first house by age of 35, you'd be proud. But wait, some kid says he owns 12 of them by age of 16, how can this not be seen as being snobbish or in bad taste? If you got more stuff than all of us, fine, good for you, just show it and try not to brag about it cause honestly, not all of us are that lucky and not all of us respond well to someone showing off and trying to gain some taste of being superior due to the amount of things they have acquired--and yes, people can end up doing this whether it is on purpose or not.

If your parents can pay for your stuff, great, leeching is always fun. But I personally like working for my stuff...gives that real taste of..."this is MINE"...know what I mean?

After all...anything for the kids...

Hey wait a minute...none of us are posting our setups...this tangent is destroying the original thread!...I think I just know who can post up a setup picture...*cough cough*

& it's not like you know me from childhood either.

& if I didn't know I was spoiled, would that be any more mature? I think it would be ignorant to say I'm not spoiled when I have like 80 thousand computers...minus 77 thousand.

That is exactly my point, being able to admit you are spoiled shows that you have enough knoweldge of the "real" world to know that you are spoiled and living in your "dream world". If you know that you are in your ''dream world'' you can (in theory) snap out of it and into the "real" world when the time comes, until then I have nothing against enjoying it while it lasts.

My parents bought my first computer and helped with my first car (didn't run, rebuilt in garage). To defend these kids with 20 computers, 15 cars, and a jet, while I don't support parents buying everything their kids want, I can understand why you would spurge on a computer, seeing they can be useful for school, that was my case. My parents helped me out while in high school, and I am grateful for it, because now I can make my car payment every month, my computer payment, and tution and book payments. I think spoiled is getting thrown around here too much. Buying your child nice things when you can afford to (when reasonable) is not spoiling them, but providing for them. BTW, I was nice and gave my eMac back to my parents, and even trained them with how to use them.

Here's the setup; I moved my eMac to the livingroom over winter break because when we had visitors there were many people in my room using the iMac & eMac (I didn't have the MacBook Pro yet). So then I moved the eMac there but I barely use it now; except for playing the SNES games using that controller that's next to it. & Now I don't use the iMac anymore at all.
& yes I know I need new floors :)

we are going to get an iPod hi-fi (& maybe a mac mini; not sure) & a new TV for our living room so that when we get an airport express we can get rid of the bose speaker system and just kind of like...consolidate all the mumbo jumbo into jsut a TV and hi-fi...we can even wirelessly stream our music to the hi-fi (while it also serves as a TV speaker). I just got done putting ALL of my dad's CD's on his iMac too...so we are alll ready (he will be the one mainly using the streaming for music)

EDIT: & sorry about the lighting, all the lights were off because of the auto flash; all the light is either from the flash or outside.

Well...admiting that you're spoiled kind of leads to the assumption that you're not too mature. I mean, have you ever heard of a "mature spoiled kid?" But you're right, I don't know you from childhood, maybe Benjamin does...but not me, you could be completely different. All I am doing is drawing conclusions and arguments based on what brief and somewhat arrogant manner you expressed yourself back there with the whole "I got money! I own a 2500 dollar computer! Let me flaunt it!..etc."

Whatever, this argument has wasted enough forum space as it is, as have your previous remarks.

Good luck accepting you're spoiled, we have all noticed your immense maturity from that reply onward.

And once more, let us drop this already.

I'm your guy's age (well, 15) & have a MacBook Pro, iMac & eMac. Seems like we have more computers than some people here and they're like....20 years older than us! haha.

I think it is the "haha" part, that might tick people off. Having nice equipment is cool, and "flaunting it" as you put it, is allright, but taunting others about having have more/better stuff than them isn't nice.

But having "more computers" isn't necessarily better than having one or a few. I only use one at the time anyway, and recently sold my PC since I didn't use it, and it was just taking up space. Having a quad in addition to a laptop would be nice, but then you have to bother with setting up syncing of the files between them.

Griffin released an app called Proxi (http://proxi.griffintechnology.com/index.html) that you can use to configure the buttons on the AirClick any way you want, as well. It uses files called "Blueprints" that can be collections of custom controls developed for all sorts of apps and system functions. I haven't checked to see if someone has released a Front Row blueprint though.

I had the Apple Wireless Desktop, but just switched it to the Logitech, I like the feel of the keyboard better, and the mose rocks. I have an AirPOrt Express on a bookshelf next to the desk, and I got the new Samsung 23" over the Apple for three resons, one it has a tv tuner, two I can plug in my 360 via HD, three it is $400 cheaper, and side by side the Samsung looks better.

That thing just blows the apples away on HD content. I have my 360 hooked up to it HD component and nothing compares. The color and contrast are just plain better thatn the apples, plus it is a tv, and I can run PIP while working on an essay (essential during MLB season).

hey could you tell me some information on that monitor? it looks to me like an LCD TV, like the ones ive been looking at. i was worried about some of the LCD TVs giving poor picture for typing and reading.

I have an LCD TV (the one from Dell, the 19" widescreen) and I use it as an external monitor as well (via DVI). However, although the color is definitely decent (and it is brighter than my MacBook Pro's screen), its resolution is pretty terrible; 1280 x 768. Plus, the text is no where near as clean and crisp as it is on my MacBook Pro.

Thus, I recommend against getting an LCD TV screen and using it as an external monitor; I recently purchased the ViewSonic VX2025wm, and you can search for it in this forum (others liked this monitor). The Dell LCD TV I purchased is 19", but cost more than that 26" LCD TV you're looking at, so I'd have to recommend against using it as a second monitor...:o

lol :p i use 1 for video streaming and the rest for final cut. and believe me, in winter time, it does help :p especially here in texas where weather can be cruel :p

ahh yes video was my first guess, you video people have all the coolest toys, not that us graphics people don't have some fun toys, we just can't justify as many.

You mean that very flat mouse? It's a prototype of my own design, hasn't been costed yet. Do you know anyone who might be interested in manufacturing it?

That really is a baitch. I've already imortalised it in a quote. Now millions of people will point at you in the street and say under their breath "there's that guy from the macrumors forum who didn't know how to link a url". :)

If it makes you feel any better I went to delete my 'System Folder' (that's the OS9 one) in Terminal but I left off the final quote, and therefore trashed two things instead. One was something called 'Folder' which didn't exist so that didn't matter, the other was a thing called 'System', that's the folder with a little blue X on it. That *did* matter.

Ouch... that's exactly why I prefer the other way of doing it...

rm -rf /System\ Folder

Thank God for Archive Install :)

You're not wrong there. I felt a little pale and slightly nauseous after I did it. I like the way that you can do the most terrible thing in Terminal and you don't get any indication that anything has happened. In space, no one can hear you scream. But Achive and Install brought everything back. I've now got a complete hd clone, I took it as a warning.

That really is the most amazing thing isn't it? We suffer an immediate and very real physiological reaction to a non-physical stimulus.

I remember once wanting to clone a live, commercial website in the early hours of the morning and I actually entered "rm -rf important_customer_website" instead of "cp -rp important_customer_website"! Why, well I'd just deleted a load of stuff (server maintenance) and the "rm" was obviously imprinted in my thick skull. I felt sick to the pit of my stomach when I realised what I'd done.

Thank God for backup tapes!

Btw, how did this gallery thread become a "Confessions" thread? :-)

Recently got a new Powerbook, so here's some pictures :)
I had to buy a monitor arm because I ran out of space on my desk for the Powerbook. Picked up a used one off this guy in town - man it STUNK, he was a heavy smoker... had to give it a good cleaning, and put new foam on it because it was so gross. So to all you pack-a-day-smokers, your stuff smells :P

Onto the goods!

Just got mine in the mail 2 days ago.

It's definitely nice, especially for the price (I got mine for 380 after a mail-in rebate!)

The resolution is great, the colors are nice, and it's brighter than my MacBook Pro

does it rotate 90degrees? thats a must in my next monitor, perfect for page layouts. also, is it vesa-mountable? because in that case i wouldn't need to rotate it.
