anyways, here's my room/setup:

http://img293.imageshack.us/img293/5364/myroom216hk.th.jpg (http://img293.imageshack.us/my.php?image=myroom216hk.jpg)

only one mac in the picture. there's an ipod nano sitting in an ipod mini dock hiding behind the little TV. it's hooked up to the two computer speakers flanking the TV. i just use the TV to play PS2 once in a while. chinese television programming sucks, even the foreign channels, but it was rather cheap for an LCD TV. only about 230 bucks or so. god bless china.

This much fun should be illegal, for a 14 year old (processing raw).

/sarcasm
If you can process raw photo and understand it, you are well on your way towards a successful future. Raw photo is one of the most facinating parts of digital computing (to me at least) - being able to take a photo in a form where you can alter almost every since aspect of its shape to form it into what you need. I just love it.

Very nice, Love the 30", is this the one with the dead pixel I have read so much about?

I used to have those over priced stick speakers, and was not very impressed with the sound range. I now have a $90 per of Bose which are far better, with better sound range. Next time you are in the market for great speakers check out Bose, I swear they will impress you. (This by the way is my third set, had others with PC years ago).

You live with your parents, right? Start paying rent, paying for food, car payments, electrical bill, phone bill, internet, so forth and so on and we'll see how many computers you can afford.

very, very true. i'm 15, my dad has a six-figure income, but i have to work my ass off to get what i want (20'' ALUM ACD + intel mac mini). my LCD on my thinkpad from the 1990s broke the other day, as my dad got it for free from his position at his work place, and my beige dell desktop was thrown out. it's ridiculous how kids my age have all this shiet and nothing to show for it.

Really? I cold fill all that space and more. Just think, you'd never have to use expose to show all open windows because you'd be able to see all of them all of the time! Though with all those windows visible you'd need to use expose to highlight the current program's open windows much more, so I suppose it's a give and take, but I'd gladly give that give to take that take.

The number would be a big help, I've been looking at printers that I can connect with my network (either by ethernet or WiFi). I'd pretty much decided on an HP, but when I saw iGary's printer, I decided maybe I needed to look around a little more. Anyone know how well Canon printers hold up? I've never had any problems from any of the HP printers I'ved had.

A very messy, very temporary setup, with very crappy camera phone pics. I'll have an all new setup when I move into my house down at college in August.

Monitor and keyboard
46827

My brand new and awesome home theater receiver, with my not so brand new, yet still awesome PS2.
46828

Showing off my awesome photography skills. (It's my G5 with an external HD and 60gb video iPod on top of it. And that white line in the upper left corner is a speaker wire, but not for the speaker on the floor next to the G5.)
46829

WIRES!!!! A huge mess. Most of the wire you see there is from the Sirius antenna in the picture. Of course, there's also a full surge protector. Also a heatsink I pulled out of an older PC. And a key to a luggage padlock. No idea where the lock is. Kinda random, but its there and I must've been too lazy to throw it away
46830

Powerbook and more wires!

If I dared post pics of my entire room, I'd win for the messiest room :D

Hey man, cool set up. I have pretty much the same receiver, but I'd warn against setting anything, especially a PS2, on top of it. Mine produces massive amounts of heat, and my PS2 used to as well (I have a new thin one now).

Really? My receiver's been on all day, decoding digital audio from my G5 (which I assume generates more heat than analog since it has a processor decoding it) and my receiver is cool. But I'll keep that in mind and try to find another spot on my desk to put the PS2

Seeing all these iMacs makes me want one really bad....

Well you notice they are all kind of empty. I usually yank one form the ridcge, and then it stays on my desk (along with the cosks, Reese Sticks, etc.) until I am motivated anought to do someting about them. :)

I think people are still waiting to see if a 2 Gb stick will work in the new intel macs - as far as I know it has not been tested, although I have heard a Dell laptop with the same processor and motherboard as the MBP apparantly accepts them.

Psychopulse - can you confirm that you are usin 2.5Gb of RAM??

If you look at the links mentioned above, they talk about 2Gb "kits"... that is 2 x 1 Gb sticks getting you to 2 Gb.

The Rev C iMac G5's and ONLY the Rev C take 2GB sticks of RAM

512MB soldered on the logic board, and one free slot, which can take 512MB, 1GB and 2GB sticks.

The PowerMac's and Xserves can take 2GB sticks too, but no other iMac's then the Rev C G5 (iSight)

Yea.....but why?My job is to know Macs backwards and forwards. I need to be able to support Macs of all different ages, trouble shoot networking issues, trouble shoot software issues, etc. There is simply no way that I could do that on only a hand full of systems.

Besides, most of my stuff I got for free or it has paid for itself.

For example... my PowerBook 2300c is meant to be my main school system. I do mathematics, and the main app I use is Mathematica. I could buy a newer PowerBook/iBook running Mac OS X ($1000 or so) and then buy Mathematica ($1800 without the student discount... which I don't currently get). But that's about $2800 I don't have. On the other hand my 2300c was about $75, Mathematica 2.2 was $50... that is $125 for pretty much the same functionality.

People often forget that 5, 10 and 15 years ago people were making nice quality stuff with the systems back then... they work just as well today (specially if you know what you are doing).

Wow.... but I would love to get my hands on RhapsodyThere are a couple copies on ebay right now... but there in North America. And I did come across a copy in Australia last week.

I know that neither of those help. :(

I think a lot of it has to do with compatibilaty with other computers, & such.
A lot of things aren't just supported anymore and it is hard to get work done when you cant find what you need.

But in your case, it is great.

Even if you got a computer jst for internet it would be too.

But right now my stupid iMac (G3) with 1 GB of RAM (450MHz CPU) can't even play TV shows from iTunes.

lol i think its funny how you are using so many old computers instead of using just one modern oneI can't think of any single computer that does what all mine do.

More importantly, why would I want to drop that kind of money on a system when I really can't justify it? There is hardly anything you can do with computers that I can't do in some way, shape or form with the systems I have now.

And I actually made money while putting together my newest addition (my Beige G3). I got a 20" display, an UltraATA/66 card, an 80 GB hard drive, a DVD-ROM drive, a USB card, a G4/533 upgrade, 640 MB of memory and an ATI Radeon 7000... and I still have an additional $50 from the project. I didn't pay out a single cent.

Thats my big dilema too. I have a ordinary desk chair. I also like to stretch my feet out too. It drives me nuts having to put my feet on top of the wood. If i pull my keyboard/mouse stand out far enough I can just place my feet on the ground, although this causes the monitor to be very far away. Buying an Ikea desk or something of the matter is going to be my next purchase, I just gotta see if the dimensions fit well into my room.

Very sweet! How do you like the dual 2.3?

It's good,

It's Gooood

This thing is really sweet. It has more horsepower than the iMac but it alos has more "torque' (if that makes sense). It is so much faster than the dual processor 1.8 i used to own (hen again so was the imac).

It does the things I really want it to do - kills in PS. It really is the fasted machine I ever owned, although i would have liked the quad. Doesnt matter because I will get the "quad at the time" when Adobe decides it can be bothered to get a universal version out.

Slightly naive to have gotten an iMac for heavy PS

""you live, you learn""

EDIT - Have you considered the Raptor? It's good. It's Goooood. My next move is the PCIe raid controller card and the jive g5 cage for more internal storage - for the price you can't knock it.

Have you though about some home engineering?? little bit of cutting, trimming maybe?

Yeah, my dads very good with a saw but I theres other problems with this desk too. The Draw could go, I don't need a draw, as of now it just takes up room. The desk space is very small, since i'm a student I need a large desk (to clutter with books). I just wish I had an Ikea store, I havn't had time to see if Ikea delivers and how much its gonna cost me.

Oh, and one question. How are you getting the 6200 to fit in the Cube? Is it AGP 2x? Because I thought the Cube could only take AGP 1x and 2x cards.

GF 6200 is low profile-model and that is reason why it's sitting Cube perfectly.

2GB of ram no more. Don't buy Transcend 2gb ram memorys - they suck.
I had to change the third identical ram for a 1GB one, because they're all don't work well.

Well, there is some good part in this situation - I've got some money back.
Thanks to that - I made an upgrade of my hardware - take a look:

Its apparently not that hard to flash a PC card to be mac compatible, problem is getting one with enough rom and in the case of your cube the right profile and AGP configuration, Just make sure that the flashed 6200 has a working graphics port of your choosing, on some you loose the DVI port or something.

With the screen hack, yes it can. Otherwise it just mirrors it at resolution (at least 99% of the time 1024x768) that the user has set.

As I have just got a new camera ( the baby Canon - 350D ) I thought i would post a couple of pics as all the others are taken with the worst camera ever used.

These are a little more fartsy :D

Their final primary CPU fan assembly iteration is the best yet - I noticed that with my Quad when I first got it.

Didn't it have a little paddle type thing on the other ones?

whats better about these? just the look or is there any functional difference?

They seem to be a lot better at "funneling" the air to the CPU's.

I am actually going to use applecare one of these days... this damn iMac keeps clicking... and I moved the body on the stand and lowered it... now its even more crooked!!!! I can't stand it (it will literally drive me insane shifting this computer constantly). Its that mild ocd everyone has :) I swear it is really crooked... use the mini as a center point.

Clicking? Where, from the inside or the stand?

the 1920x1080 resolution beats the pants off any 1366x768 720p set! (I sell those TVs for a living and hook my laptop up to them via mini-DVI to DVI-to-HDMI often.)

STR-DG600. I don't go cheap (which is why i suppose I have a $2700 laptop :p )

the thing's great though, I love it, i just wish it started up a little quicker.

since you "don't go cheap" have you ever looked into a yamaha receiver. you pay 3x a sony but get 15x the experience. (I am a surround sound specialist and installer by trade, and that's how i recognized your receiver in the first place)

well, I do have my limits. Besides, as a musician, i listen to alot of classical music, and the most important piece of equipment is the speakers, so thats what I focus my money on. big expensive and loud surround systems often have pathetic performance at playing music, but since most people listen to garbage for music and confuse loudness with good quality...

I'm not saying this sony receiver is god, but there is no way any other system will do any better at music, regardless of how nice they are at everything else. the only thing that would reproduce music better is a tube setup, and there is no way I can afford one of those.

Yeah, it's speedier, but unless I start editing video, it's a small bump, but it Intel-proofs me for a few years.

Thanks. :)

I presume you have to send the other one back?

The thing i am really jealous of is the screen, more envious than jealous really - they just cost so so much. Worth the money? is the viewing angle ok?

Yeah, just erased and installed the old one and I'll leave it in the box by the fireplace for a few days to make sure this one is OK - and it seems to be.

I couldn't imagine working on things on a smaller screen - not saying it to be snobby - just feel that way. It's a great monitor - great for productivity.

No, not snobby - i thought the 24 was to small and didnt really like dual monitors.

I will get one over the coming months. Its just a wee bit to much for me at the moment ( its nearly 2 grand here )

Looking at it again it looks like a Special Edition Oreo iPod. I could see it now.
