I wish I could deal with the wireless mouse. Just doen't work for me. Makes for a nice clean setup, though. ;)

Nice Setup Glenn.
Personally I'm getting a little bored and bit bothered about the i-line (consumer series) being mostly White ... bothers me like its a supremacy thing. Sure there's the Black iPod (30/60GB) and Black iPod Nano; and now the Black MacBook. But with no Black iMac the black in the lineup is still viewed, by most fans as the 'blacksheep' of the Apple family.
I'll still drop for a MacBook Black unless the 1GB RAM brings me up to the cost of the MBP refurbished at 128MB Video Memory. Soon, really soon ... I know been saying that for way too long.

where'd you get that desk? seems cool.
I'm really liking most people's setups. I need to do some cleaning around my desk, and then I will post mine. I have a lot of freetime to clear up my desk because I just had surgery yesterday, so I don't have to worry about work or school for a little while. Maybe I will get around to it in a day or so.
Can wait to see it, since you have an iMac G5 & a MacBook Pro & a few iPods :)

I don't have any old pics as my collection of Macs is pretty young (switcher) but here are the machines and a pic with at least two of them in it.
1. iBook 500 (dead screen)
2. PowerMac Dual 867
3. 12" PowerBook 867 (sold)
4. 15" PowerBook 1ghz
5. PowerMac G4 400mhz
New additions in a week or two will be a Dual 2 G5.
And the reason I have so many? My work colleague uses the Dual 867, the PowerBook is for roadtripping, the old G4 is for Jaguar testing and the G5 will be my new workstation.
Warning, picture is massively compressed... eek!
Wow, your desk is almost as messy as mine:eek:

I would post a picture, but I'm in the middle of cleaning again so it looks like a disaster area.
Instead, here's a spiffy diagram I made in OmniGraffle. It's my current network.

Yes, it's my home network, and yes, I do own all those machines. (Actually, I just got a PB 2400c, but it's not in the diagram.)

Okay, that's perfect. VGA for my 360, and DVI for my MB:D . Where did you buy it, it is the closest I'll ever get to an ACD, the design is nearly as good, and how's the picture quality? Perhaps also specs, and a link to where you can buy it. I live in Denmark, but I guess I could cross Øresund to get such a sweet screen...:D

Here is a bit more info on your model.
http://www.savastore.com/productinfo/product.aspx?catalog_name=Savastore&product_id=10289103&pid=0&rstrat=0
Here are the specs of the Apple cinema display for a comparsion.
http://www.apple.com/uk/displays/specs.html
I have the Samsung 940MV and that can double up as a television/monitor.
The Apple Cinema displays look impressive but with no built in tv tuner or scart leads socket for my sky box or some other devices it could not do what i needed it to do so i opted for the model that i have above.

Thankyou, I already made a comparison chart in Word though. The ACD is double the price, and has worse specs, though it looks sweeter...:D
I know about the 940 MV, but since I want to connect it to my MB too though, I'd like the higher resolution, and IMO, the 205BW looks sweeter, and I don't really have any need for a TV Tuner. I know it has no speakers, but a friend of mine just gave me a couple of Samsung speakers from his 21" Samsung screen...:D
http://img108.imageshack.us/img108/5447/billede1df5.png
I'm going with the 205BW (the prices are in DKK). I can't find this ONOFF, but I got a good offer for 2950 DKK plus 110 DKK shipping at www.kelkoo.dk. A total of around $400.:D
BTW, thanks alot for your help brikeh.;)

Jul 22, 2006, 11:08 AM
The 940MWis the same resolution as my 1440x900 MBP so it suits me fine.
Your comparison was interesting although i had been under the impression that the higher response time would indicate that something was better rather than a slower one but i guess that i was wrong on that.
It is all down to what you need at the end of the day. The Apple also has other features that you didn't mention as they were not relevant to your needs but obviously if you were looking for USB ports and firewire ports the Samsung would not be the way to go.
I hope that you are happy with your purchase.

The ACD's have a response time of 14 ms, which means it takes the displa fourteen miliseconds to update the display image, while it only takes this Samsung 6 miliseconds. The fastest displays in the world has 2 ms, but that means you would need a framerate of 500 fps to reach that:p
I actually before considered excactly the 940MV before, as you can see here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=204845) (3rd post), but despite the price being $150 more, I'd really like the higher res. for more Windows, and smaller pixels. Thanks for your help anyway, and BTW brikeh, seen my sig?:D

Heh, yup. :)
How do you like that mouse?
I love it. It has great battery life, decent range, and feels very comfortable in my hand.
There is one thing that I wish I could change about it, though, and that is the way it turns itself off after a few minutes of inactivity. Because of this I have to shake it around for a second or two to get it to wake up again. But I suppose it's worth it if it allows me to go on for a couple months without recharging.

Anyone using one of them new Samsung LCD TV / monitors? the LNS2352W (23"), but also comes in 26" and 32"
"seattlemaclover" posted his setup several months ago with that monitor, and i've been considering the same thing. his setup can be seen here (http://att.macrumors.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=45838&d=1145995579)
I've googled the samsung but haven't gotten much hits on reviews, let alone comments about using it with a computer.
This might not be a good place to put a review, but would be nice if anyone with comments to shoot me a PM about that monitor with your Mac (I'm planning on using it with my iBook, and future Macs.

But I couldn't take all the other stuff with me to England. So I gave my ACD, keyboard and mouse away.
But I'm fine with my setup, it does everything what it needs to do.

But I couldn't take all the other stuff with me to England. So I gave my ACD, keyboard and mouse away.
But I'm fine with my setup, it does everything what it needs to do.
As soon as I know how long I will stay in Bristol I decide if I should upgrade or not. My old setup was way more comfortable!

Not much has changed since the last time I posted here as you can see. I have tided up some of my wiring and moved the router so it does not look so messy but you cannot see that in the picture. I am thinking about adding a green clamshell iBook or getting a second hand Mac Mini in the not to distant future as well as i need a cheap second computer. I am really loving the iPAL and it really produces an awesome sound.

I honestly cannot remember if that wall is slightly cracked or if was just uneven on that side. That wall had wood chip paper on it before and it was stripped, lined and then painted. Maybe that wall could have benefited from some treatment before it was lined but it was done over two years ago and my memory is a bit hazy on that.

I think I've seen dual 1.8Ghz upgrades, and single 2.0Ghz ones. You can fit 1.5GB of RAM in them, and pretty much any short, low-profile video card that'll fit in an AGP 2x slot. They have the hard drive size limitation, but with software hacks you can get around that and put in any big IDE drive.

So you're saying:
Dual 1.8 GHz G4
1.5 GB RAM (what type?)
120 GB HDD (also hackzorzable?)
AGP 2x GPU
hmmmm.... not that super, you can for very cheap get an Intel MacMini much better than this....
livingfortoday
Aug 4, 2006, 06:53 AM
Yeah, unfortunately the Cube is also limited by its 100Mhz bus, which really puts a damper on things. It uses PC100/PC133 RAM. You can use over 120GB drives with the right software, but without it, yeah, 120GB is the max.
It's the reason I sold my dual 1.5Ghz upgrade for my Cube and got a Mac Mini in the end. Well, also because I got three faulty units in a row.

They really are one of the most underrated Apple computers ever. Been using mine almost 2 years (October 22nd will be official) and it still pulls along strongly. I was thinking of upgrading to MacBook, but i'lll stick with eMac for another year. The only think I wish i could change would be keeping the speaker grilles on. Daher habe ich nur ein Wort bzw. im ersten Post die Übersetzung geschrieben. Wollte auch eigentlich nur meinen Neid über so technisch "bewanderte" Großeltern ausdrücken.
Alrighty, back to topic.

That's where my peripherals went to! Typical, old-fashioned grandparents interior and a 20'' ACD, Mac mini and wireless keyboard and mouse, great!
EDIT: by the way, may granddad took the picture and they scaled it down and sent it to my e-mail address.

Just moved to Glasgow for College and thought I would show you my new setup. There is an extension being built so this is only a temp setup but I thought people would like to see it,
And sorry about the poor quality, taken with my camera phone, 1.2 MegPix my ass!!!
Anyhoo, you can see a macbook pro 17", 20"acd, Wireless mighty mouse, Alt lansing speakers and a canon lide 500 f scanner.
Under the desk is a canon pixma ip5200r printer, 2x300Gb Hdd and 2x200Gb Hdd.
I also hae a nano(4gb) and a plantronics c600...something headset.....
As tyou can see all my crap is piled up onto the shelfs and my two mac minis and 20" acd and projector are packed away, its hard just using one computer....
....oh here come the shakes again.....:p

Hehe, true! But hey, those are my grandparents and at least they know how to make it bigger/smaller.
Now we know, how we are going to end up. We will need 30'' displays, because half the display is going to be used for the dock.

WTF are you talking about? The MP has one double-wide PCI slot, the only one compatible with the X1900 and Quadro. The three other ordinary PCI slots support the 7300GT's. So, the macimum a MP currently can do is 26.9 megapixels.

You can only have a total of 1GB of VRAM inside of your machine, which means either 4 7300GTs, or 2 7300s and the Quadro.
The Quadro ONLY has 2 Dual Link DVI, and with the 2 7300GTs 2 Dual Link and 2 Single Link, you can have up to 4 30" Cinema HD displays and up to 2 23" Cinema Displays.

What type of sleeve is that? Or where can I find it?
Actually, Its an APPLESAC, I just got it like 3 days ago. I'm actually looking to sell it, because my girlfriend just bought me a Monster sleeve. Let me know if you're interested!
Thanks!

Sharewaredemon you need a cover of some sorts for that iPod Video ASAP
I ALWAYS use it in a case, where the original Apple case that came with my 3G iPod, or socks, but it still scratches, because as a lot of people say, the black iPod shows scratches more.
Go figure, course it still plays music very well!
How is video editing on the eMac?
No bad I suppose, I edit full length skateboard videos on it and although I have to wait for renders and whatnot it still runs FCP 4.5 fairly well.
If you want to see some of the stuff I've done you can check out my website in my sig and look at some of the videos, the Trailer for Spring, Summer, Fall has some pretty busy editing.

Those are nice, I would lower the volume of the "skate noise" though on the mini montage.
What are the specs, like full specs (memory, hard drive config, speed)?

Thanks, you know what is funny? I actually edited the Mini montage at work on a Core Duo iMac, but you are right, the skateboarding audio is too high on that and I should have lowered it.
In terms of specs, most are in my sig, but I have a 160 GB hard drive which I think is 7200 RPM but it isn't serial. The external which is shown in my setup picture is a Maxtor One Touch III 300 GB with a 16 mb cache.

I think it's one of those keyboards that have specific labels for a specific application, to make it easier to find keyboard shortcuts.

I remember reading in another post that it was for Final Cut Pro. I could be wrong though.
edit:
I believe it to be a Photoshop keyboard so has loads of shortcuts and things written on it.
actually Final Cut, but whatever.

My first setup was my first computer the Powermac B&W G3. It had a 350mhz processor, and I had a 17" matching display. My current setup is the first release of the G5 with a single 1.8 Ghz processor, 160GB hard drive, and I have 1.5GBs of DDR SDRAM and my new purchase after it's recent pricedrop...the 20" Cinema Display.

P.S. Once Merom MBPs come out, that will also be on my desk, along with a Wireless Apple Keyboard and Wireliess Mightymouse for my iMac, and a Wireless Mightymouse for my MBP, so it should look SWEET!! I can't wait!

Yea, it's Ikea.
http://www.ikea.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?topcategoryId=15600&catalogId=10103&storeId=3&productId=11496&langId=-15&categoryId=16133&chosenPartNumber=60105103
It's really strong, the only think i don't like, is the white wood thing under the desk, I'm really tall and I like to be REALLY close to the desk, so I always hit my knee on it. And I'm afraid it's gonna brake everytime I do that.. But it's really stong.
Everything but the iPod socks, iPod and iMac are from iKea (that are on my desk)
Lol.. look at how I wrote Ikea.
