Compared to what?

Compared to the new intel chips.

Or the fact that your Quad is beaten by a laptop like the macbook pro at almost everything. Recognize the slowness, iGary.

I recognize that the PPC is an antiquated technology so should you.

Are you a willy waver or something?
I'm getting sick and tired hearing this crap on any Mac forum. Soon as Intel comes out its fast forward of PPC bashing, but before then how quick like this example is that people were defending PPC.

Its like a pack of wild dogs.

Ever use CS2 on an MBP, toothpaste?

Sharewaredemon
Aug 14, 2006, 11:02 AM
iGary uses CS2 daily, so his maxed out Quad will still beat the pants off a maxed out Intel quad running CS2 in Rosetta, until there are UBs of that and some other Pro apps, it makes sense to stick with PPC, but for other things I agree that the Intel chips are fast as heck.

As a MacRumors fanatic, I will assume the responsibilty to halt this argument, or at least until the next person argues.:D

Excuse the wires hanging everywhere. The cable routers aren't helping at all. Any suggestions? I've tried zip ties, don't work.

BTW: Notice anything new and shiny in my setup?

What do I use it for? Sometimes I get to work at home and I work as a Researcher. So I need an extremely powerful workstation to run Mathematica calculations and fluid/flow dynamics. I can also send out the major tasks via Xgrid to my work's processing nodes/farm. That's it in a nutshell!

Because it stands next to a MacMini:p

I really want a MacPro, yet there's no way I would be able to afford one. I aso want a Mini or an iMac, but I need laptop. I have an MB, but I'd much rather prefer a MacBook Pro, and I wanna get one as soon as they ship with Leopard and iLife '07...:D

Do you think a mac pro and 20" ACD would fit on that desk? Or at least a 20" ACD? That seems like the same desk that we use at my school...so i thought i would throw it out their..

Yea I definitely think the 20 ACD + MacPro would be able to fit. The sony lcd in my picture was 19in but 4:3 instead of widescreen so it might be a tighter squezze on the sides but you can relocate the speakers onto the shelf. Be prepared to protect your computer from your roomies lol. They'll probably start drooling once they see your setup.

Yea after getting my first powerbook 3 years ago Ive been hooked on apple. I guess I've been gradually readying my desktop. Its pretty funny when everyone assumes its an apple computer from just seeing the desk. The BT mighty would be a nice match but I just cant get over its ergonomics, it would take more getting used to than I would like.

The MacPro is definitely on my list especially since it can dualboot, but Im still hurting from buying the ACD a year ago...I know eventually I wont be able to resist!

Nice setup iBlue and hardline!

Personally I agree, that's why I choose to buy an older 20" as oppose to the newer ones. But having said that, after using the older style for a year now I can see why they changed.

The older one's take up more space than the need, plus the bezel is friggin huge, making dual monitor setups in effective. Plus they slant back somewhat and the actual viewing area can't be put at a 90 degree angle with your face. Over all their just not as adjustable.

But they still are dead sexy

MBP (to come) : MacBook Pro Intel Merom 15", 2.33Ghz, 256MN VRAM, 2GB RAM, 100GB HD @ 7200RPM, Superdrive.

heh, heh, well what happened was, the gf pressed one of those buttons that only they know exist, and I picked up the keyboard and smashed it down onto the edge of the table as hard as I could. The whole room was instantly filled with little key board bits. It took me about 4 hours to find every last bit spring clip and key and put it all back together. It works fine though. That's one tough mutha. I tried to buy a new one on ebay last week but even though it was used it sold for AUD$70, and they only cost $50 delivered from the apple store.

EDIT: just saw this

I looked around online and read reviews and stuff for a few days before I finally decided to get 'em and I'm glad I did. I can't imagine any other 2.0 speaker sounding this good, especially for the price.

What are the specs?

Markleshark
Aug 26, 2006, 01:53 PM
Well I thought i'd get round to posting mine, so here is my uber eMac.

Specs are: 800MHz PPC G4
768Meg o' RAM (Was 128)
200 GIG Maxtor HDD (Was 40)
DL DVD±RW (16x, 8x Dual Layer) (Was Combo)
40 GIG External HDD
JBL Creature 2s
Microsoft IntelliMouse (Best mouse i've ever owned)
Apple Wired Keyboard

Original 4 GIG Blue iPod Mini (MINT Cond, could still be brand new) +iTrip and Blue iPod Sock.

Motorola V3i

All very yummy, roll on the Mac Mini upgrades tho, I think its time for an Intel switch for myself. G4 is still good, but its getting a little outdated now.

Hi there,

When I was waiting for my Mac Pro to arrive I loved to see unboxing pictures to make the wait more bearable. So I decided to give the ones still waiting a chance to see more of those.

This is the standard 2.66 version of Mac Pro so this ain't nothing you guys haven't seen before... but it took it's time to arrive to my country. Now I'm just waiting for the X 1900 XT and the ram to arrive here too (the Apple store here didn't get any extra ram) because I ordered 4gb instead of 1gb.

So here you go... The pics:

MacsAttack
Aug 26, 2006, 03:02 PM
In the last pic, what are those bays labeled 1, 2, 3, and 4?

Those are the slots into which the end of full length PCIe cards slot. The number matches to PCIe slots (see the graphics card picture).

The gap between 1 and 2 is wider because slot one is able to accomodate double width cards.

Note - the cards slot in between the "bays" - just thought I'd clarify that point.

Just another of those little things that show the attention to detail that went into the Mac Pro

Everyone that has them loves them. I have one but I don't use it right now because my brother split water on my Apple keyboard and havent bought a new one. Yes, they are expensive for just a plastic stand... but they look amazing and are very high quality. I could sit on it and it probalby wouldn't break. It also has pads on the top so your new MB wont slide off it.

Thank you all, but to be completely fair, I will devulge a couple secrets about my setup.

1. That furniture there....yeah its particle board. So in all reality it is quite shotty and can be picked up at any IKEA store.

2. The HD i got picked up for 90$ US (acomdata)

3. The pen holder and manual holder were around 7 dollars

I HATE WIRES AND CORDS...LIKE LEPROSY THEY ARE!

I really like it, feels the same if not better then the original mighty mouse (since now my cord don't get stuck)

I will be posting a review of it on my blog sometime tonight:

Sorry I don't have a picture of everything yet. I have to clear off the PowerMac, the Cube is at my place of employment, I sold a bunch of the laptops and the G4 is collecting dust. Eventually I'll get you guys a picture of the G5 though.
