How does each Mac know which mouse and keyboard to use if they're both wireless?

How does each Mac know which mouse and keyboard to use if they're both wireless?
They work easily. You pair one, then pair the other to the other machine. Because they've paired - there's no intereference and there's no problem, even if you switch them off then on again.
I do it with two of my macs.

Edit: or was it JVC?

Wow, yes, an eMac and a JVC. The computer is from work (I work for the local schoolboard and do work for them from University) (See my summer job photos here (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=227895)) so it's not actually mine, but the VX2100 is mine, I've been saving up, and I got the opportunity to shoot a 1 minute ad for my University so I decided it would be very beneficial to me to buy the camera for use on that project so that I didn't have to share equipment with the other students making similar films.

Thanks! LOL, actually I got the wired KB/mighty mouse plus mousepad on purpose, I've used couple sets of wireless on my PC, just got tired of changing batteries and the motion feels more smooth with mousepad. Wireless indeed is more clean, I agree. Hmmm...you got me all thinking to exchange this set back to the store for wireless, since I only bought it last week.

I love the setup and am very jealous of the equipment! Mine's more of a 'white room' - but I heartily recommend the new mighty mouse (wireless) as it tracks on all surfaces - wired one needs a pad really.
Get yourself some rechargable batteries - mine last me weeks on end (especially the keyboard)
Learn keyboard shortcuts and you'll curb the mouse eating the batteries too much.
Just my ten pence worth!

how do you find that keyboard? i see you've used a few...
I love it. Its short travel is really nice, and it feels really stable. It's a little louder than the Apple keyboard though, but I like the overall look and feel and the media buttons are very useful. One feature I thought was stupid but now I find myself using more than ever is the volume buttons on the mouse. Wow are those handy!
LOL yeah I have used a few kb/mouse sets. I'm really picky about input devices. The oldest one you can see in the shots on my desktop, the Cordless MX700 Desktop, was probably the best in its day. But it was getting long in the tooth and I needed a laser mouse, so I got the MX5000. Biggest mistake ever. It felt great, but that damn thing would never stay connected, the keyboard and the mouse would freeze up for no reason, you would have to screw with it for 10 minutes sometimes to get it connected when you booted the computer...it sucked. All that happened in both Windows and Linux, with and without drivers installed, so I know it wasn't a software issue. After awhile, I demanded a replacement with a different model because TWO other people (one of them being my roommate) were experiencing the exact same problems. Logitech refused and sent me the same model, which of course experienced the same problems. My friend is now arguing with them about the same issues. Normally I absolutely love Logitech products, but that one was a huge dud. A huge, expensive dud -- that was the priciest combo yet, at MSRP$149; I got it for $120.

Treo 680 is starting to annoy me. There's no option that allows you to set the alarm tone to ring several times. It only rings once!.
Silverscreen also, doesn't work properly. Battery life is abysmal. I still prefer the 650. Wish i hadn't sold it already. Oh well, maybe one of these years i'll have to try get a blackberry afterall.

I like the 680 so far. But, the battery life is terrible!! I am not a heavy user either. The white is more of a pearl color. I would have ordered a different color if I would have known that up front.

Yeah i didn't wanna pick colours because of the slight chance i'd not like them. So i chose the neutral graphite. Its sleeker and the lack of antenna is a God send but the tradeoffs are slightly on the heavy side. Contemplating putting mine on eBay right now but i may just leave it.
Cool setup by the way.

Yeah! This will be the largest display I have ever regularly used! I had a Dell 2001FPW a while back, and that was a great display. I made the mistake of getting a regular (non-widescreen) LCD this time around, and it's been a pain for me not being able to have two documents side by side. I almost got another 2001, but figured, hey, I don't own a TV, this computer's my only "entertainment center", let's get the biggest monitor the Mini can handle. Ta-da!

You and your Flikr pages. I just spend the past the last half hour looking at your macs and surfing craigslist for a suitable g4 server project. Argh! I thought I was cured of these silly ideas! ;) Nice projects btw.
What was the reason you went with the dell over the apple 23"? Just curious.

Price, basically. The Dell outlet has the 2407 for $599, while the Apple was $899. I was able to pick up the Dell from a forum member for a little less than the outlet price+tax, so I'm happy.
The other features (extra inputs, etc) were a bit of a draw, too, since I will be using this as my primary entertainment center display for at least a year.
And yeah, playing around with computers is good times, as evidenced by my Flickr page. I'm trying to think of a new project to build around this spare 466Mhz G4 processor I can't seem to get rid of...

Nah, it was just a piece of paper with a cloud pattern printed on it, on the metal shell between the plastic and metal. The clouds ended up on the back, though, I didn't plan it out so well.

As I realized I had too many Macs, I sold iBook and Ti PB (at the decent price as they were basically in a mint condition as I take care of my Macs very nicely).
So, I was able to trim down my inventory to MBP, 2 PBs, Tablet, Dell & HP (oustisde the picture).
Now, I have 2 extra keyboards and a few too many mice. I guess I will save them till I go for MP next year after CS3 is released.

Actually, it is very workable. I have several hubs for USB, Firewire 400, & Firew800, and several external Lacie and Maxter drives, 3 external speakers, and what not. So, it is impossible to clean up wires like other people who has a simple and elegant set up on this thread. I simply have so many:D .......I know it would get more cluttered with wires as I am going to add MacPro soon. For that I would need extra small furniture.....

Quite a bit of hatred for my sticker... And no, it doesn't cover the sleep light. So it's just there to look cool, and since it's the only mac ever with a sticker it is too me very cool. And if I ever move both the iMacs in teh house I can differentiate easily. And no, the G5 imac does not have a sticker :P

Yeah, the Mini is connected to it through DVI. The max resolution the Mini can handle is 1920x1200, which happens to be this monitors native resolution as well :D . That's why I got it - the biggest display my Mini could take.
It's pretty smooth so far, and I haven't seen any problems at all with video quality or stuttering or anything. I'm going to try some simple games on it at some point, though I bet that the Mini and its GMA950 won't like that so much.

How do you like having that 30" and two 20" ACD's on the side? It's not to wide? I was thinking about doing the same thing. One 30" and two 23"s or 20"s. Thanks for the info.

I really like it. I do most of my work on the 30", and keep secondary stuff on the 20"s such as email, chat, iTunes, documentation, etc. Works great. And since my main focus is on the 30" all the time, it's not to wide.

awesome monitor. Can you have all the connections, like the s-video, component, vga and dvi all hooked up at the same time to different sources and able to switch between them?
Yeah, you can. But you can do that with most LCD, I used to have a Rosewill that I had hooked up to the Mini through DVI and a PC through VGA, and I'd just switch using the buttons on the front. Of course, this has lots more inputs, as well as picture-in-picture and picture-by-picture, so it's preeeetty nice.
Id did just get put to shame by that incredible 30" + 2x20" setup. Yowza!

Just received my Dell 2007FP!
Here's my setup for now in 2 different screen modes. I'm probably also gonna use 2 screens when needed.
Only problem with clamshell mode is that it heats up more than usual, so I might prop my MBP up on 2 books, one on each side, to keep airflow going past the underneath of it.

Also, does anybody know if there's a way to put a shortcut to rotate your screen in the display icon at the top right (in the apple bar)?

Here is my humble setup with a 20" Dell lcd, sony PSP, 3 external HD as Final Cut Studio scratch disk, Sandisk 1 gig mp3 player, panasonic GS500 B cam and Panasonic HVX 200 with m2 adapter HD A cam.
The white 13" 2GB RAM MacBook C2D was purchased 2 weeks ago. I am a recent switcher and I couldn't be any happier. I am also moving from Premiere Pro 2.0 to Final Cut Studio. I can attest that FCS is so much more better than Premiere Pro 2.0
I am looking to get a more proper Mac Pro and Final Cut Pro Keyboard right after Mac World SF. Also looking to add the full frame "Canon 5D SLR" replacement to complete "the studio". I also need to hook up my other 20" Dell LCD to the Mac Pro.

I'm using the Miglia TVMini HD (http://www.miglia.com/products/video/tvminihd/index.html), it's right next to the right speaker in the pic.
It's hooked up to the rooftop antenna. If I had cable, I could pick up unencrypted HD local channels using the TVMini HD in QAM mode.

My study at the end of a hard day's work. Indeed, the photograph (edited to give a darker saturation and more relaxed feel) includes the Montecristo No. 2 cigar and Dow's young vintage port just before their preparation process. The desk is made of 100% pure solid Ash (hardwood), not Ikea rubbish.
Of course, my 17'' Laptop was the last revision from the PowerBook lineup. If it ain't broke, don't replace it. Long live PowerBooks, but not quite as good as my Montecristo, Cohiba and Romeo Y Julieta ;)

that desk looks really nice and symmetrical :) perhaps a bit lacking in the ergonomics department, no? I mean, with your chair and laptop set up like that, if you look straight ahead your eyes must be some 40cm above your screen.

Yes, you've made a point. In the picture the chair looks higher than the monitor viewing point, but as I've now adjusted the height setting, it is at its lowest, therefore nearly eye-level - no higher than 7 - 8 cm. Maybe it is something I've got used to with laptops as I do a lot of mobility as part of my job.

Not that I have ever had a powerbook, but I know that with the iBook - it's really annoying when the mouse lead isn't quite long enough to go all the way around the back and allow to to move everywhere you might want to (safely).
Wireless is the way I do things now.

i simply cant be bothered, the cord isnt long enough to reach round the other side and its quite springy too (retains its original shape). i move the computer aboout a lot, its hardly permanent so i guess im alright with it for now.

Yes, but either way my original question is still valid, which is driving the screen in the picture?

Have you never seen an LCD with multiple inputs? Mine, for example, does DVI, VGA, Composite, and S-Video. I have the PowerBook plugged in via DVI and the PC via VGA.

Haha and remember, on a Mac the top of the screen is saved for the all mighty blue apple, not anywhere else!

I wouls guess that it is controlled via a KVM but I can't see one. Maybe it is setup with a keystroke combination. I will be posting my new setup with its KVM in the new year.

The Samsung screen has a multiple input - Digital, Analogue and Composite - all at once. DVI is Macbook Pro, then a DVI-VGA converter on the Windows Computer (my only gripe with this monitor is that its not dual-dvi inputs). I then just unplug my Apple keyboard from the Macbook and the PC as and when I need it - and press the button on the screen to switch to DVI or VGA.
Simple ;)

That would probably be because the lamp is metal. ;)

That, and the fact that it has a halogen bulb. I wouldn't mind the heat as much if it weren't for the fact that mine gets so hot that it makes popping noises as it heats up. I very rarely use it anymore for that reason.
