Maybe this is a dumb question, but I've never seen a Mac Pro in person because I interact with almost no Mac people...how do those DVD drive doors work? It doesn't look like they can open outward, because they're behind the mesh. Do they somehow fold inward right before the tray comes out?

the door slides down and the tray slides out. Just like the g5's, not that exciting really.

Here's my MAC/PC setup :) I haven't changed it much from last year, but what the heck.

I am looking at some upgrades in the near future:

- PS3 to replace PS2
- New 24inch monitor with HDMI/HDCP inputs for running PS3 at 1080p
- iPhone (if it becomes available in Canada)

STILL by FAR amongst the best setups I've ever seen here! Especially in the dark. Dude can you PM me where you get your figureans? Pls!

PS Since you know of the Tigercats comic (amongst the same 2nd year that Spawn debuted) - there was an Image Comic about a soldier dieing and trying to repent his sins that I've been trying to track down but cannot find the name. If you have any idea pls PM me the title thanks.

i really need to clean up my desk area. that was taken last month, when i got my macbook. the lcd is for the windows pc i still am using, and it's not going away anytime soon. i've since replaced the speakers with ones i got for christmas, but they are of similar shape. also, the note pad holder has been moved to the wall to conserve space.

i need to find a better place for my wireless keyboard for my pc (the slider went bad last year).

I don't know where a link is at, but I know the pic is of Vincent in the PS2 game Final Fantasy VII: Dierge of Cerebus (sp?).

Anyways, took a few more pics of my setup. Like I said in another thread, I'm just really happy where everything is at, and I feel like it's *almost* complete, save for an iCurve/Elevator and maybe an external HDD. Hopefully either an iMac or MacPro is in my near future, though, before college...

Hey, I have that exact TV in a 19" model. It still has the VGA input in the back. Would it be possible to use that as a second display (along with my 20" cinema) with my Mac Mini? And if it was possible and I did do it, would I still be able to play Xbox 360 through the Samsung TV?

Thanks.

I'm not sure how to connect two monitors, but I've heard it's pretty easy to set up. Also, you can use an HDMI-DVI cable to plu your mac into the HDMI port on your monitor if there is one. A second option would be for you to use VGA for your Mac and Component (Red, Green, Blue) for your 360. Good luck.

Just went last night and picked it up from IKEA. It is soooo nice and sturdy. He is probably using either the composite or S-video cables to connect the PS2 to the LCD. The dell has S-video and composite inputs so you can connect any console to it.

Very nice Axiom you have there, i'm planning to buy the Axiom 61. Are you happy with it?

Thanks,

yes I am really happy with it, I've had it for less than a month though, but I have used it tons.

The semi-weighted keys feel pretty good, this thing can do a ton and it's all programmable, it was a bit overwhelming at first, but I am getting used to it.

It didn't come with a user's guide, so at first I was just figuring out all the programming my self, until I downloaded the PDF form their site.

The trigger pads are great, I would much rather use them for making beats than the keys, they just feels more durable when you are striking them, and of course you can assign the trigger pads to whatever you want... start loops etc.

I have nothing bad to say about it.

oh, well there is one thing, the usb cable is an ugly beige color, ahahaah, but my cables are nicely hidden so I dont even see it.

hehe, I can answer that for you, Mitch is my brother, and that is my old mouse as you can see in the before picture of my setup.

It's a Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer 2.0.

Here (http://www.microsoft.com/hardware/oempartners/ProductDetails.aspx?pid=013) it is, his is in the black leather model. I am not too sure if they have it anymore, I can't find it on the site.

Looks like you can buy them cheap though, it uses RF not bluetooth, so it comes with a usb RF receiver.

Hey, dariuslatamus!

Lovely setup. I really like the red walls. Very clean and sexy. Anyways though, you HAVE to tell me where you got those thick Matrix "posters." I want that Neo one! :p

Hi Matt,

I got the posters from a local place here in Toronto called www.movieposter.ca
They sell the posters as well as mounting them on either glossy or matte wood. So i got all my posters mounted on matte wood so they wouldn't shine too much.

Hi Prom1,

Thanks appreciate it! In terms of my figures and statues, it's a few years of collecting but I can tell you that most of them were bought off ebay including the Silver Surfer, Sauron, Superman, Ryu. The others aren't really statues but more like figurines or action figures that I bought from a local comic shop.

The Image comic you're talking about is called Prophet! I remember it well. It was one of my favorite comics as well. I remember Stephen Platt drew it for sometime and did a fantastic job on it.

hey darius, how did you connect your ps2 to your LCD? i want to do it, but not looking to spend lots of money for a VGA box.

Hi AppleGuy,

I have the ps2 connected to the 2405FPW via the component cables and I also have the ps2 connected to my Shuttle with the optical cable. My powerbook is connected to the dell screen via the dvi connection but I'm using a vga-dvi adapter to plug it in because I game on my pc so I wanted the superior quality of the dvi on that.

The Dell 2405FPW has composite, s-video and component hookups so it's fantastic in that way..you could potentially have all 3 consoles hooked up.

I hope this answers everyone's questions!

The speakers are great, I got them refurb from Klipsch for $50 w/ free shipping, so thats not bad. The only bad thing is that the speakers are almost too good and you can really tell when you're playing a low quality mp3 file or really any playback of a sub-par audio source.

Looks very nice, I'm looking at getting the Apple wireless keyboard and mouse but can't decide because of the cost, what do you think of them?

What size is your monitor btw, looks very sexy.

The apple wireless setup is a little expensive, it was $136 after tax. I really like the look though, and am really pleased with the mouse. The scroll ball, no matter how much complaining I've seen about it, is really nice. I'm really digging the look and feel of the whole setup now.

The monitor is the 24" Dell, its great for the price, the only thing that I'm having problems with now is that the card reader doesn't work and the usb ports are sometimes sketchy, sometimes they don't recognize my ipods, its very strange and frustrating actually.

A slight update; got a few new toys in the last couple weeks…
1. Logitech Z-2200 2.1 speaker system (replaced Z-5500 5.1 set that I never used in 5.1 mode)
2. Apple iPod nano 8GB, black (replaced 30GB iPod video that I never watched videos on), with a BestSkinsEver full-body 1-piece shield
3. Motorola RIZR Z3 slide-style phone (replaced BlackBerry 8700c…no point in paying for mobile email if I’m always at a desk, is there?) BTW, I LOVE this phone.

i just got that monitor today! its the "dual tone grey" version of the 1707FP.....i thought it suited my powerbook rather well.

the powerbook does look close to the door; its a bit misleading. i can assure you that the door cannot hit the powerbook at all, its actually about 6 inches away from the frame. my room is actually really small, si there isnt really anywhere else for it to go if i want to revise for exams comfortably.

LOL, I went to the store inspired after seeing so many brilliant set-ups here. I had a pocket full of money and was ready to spend, all I came home with was a freakin' wall mount!

I just ordered a Dell 24 inch and a Macbook Pro. The monitor should be here tomorrow and the laptop by Friday. So I went to the store looking for a desk, a chair, a wall mount, speakers, and mighty mouse and matching keyboard, a notebook stand, and anything else that caught my eye. All I got was the wall mount!

It was probably my fault for going to K-Mart and Target looking for a desk. I love the glass displays that people have here, and I also love the light colored wood. I'm going to look into a glass desk during lunch tomorrow, hopefully I'll have a picture to add by this weekend.

I wasn't worried about the door hitting it, but more of people walking by seeing the nice computer and wanting to steal it or someone coming in the room and knocking it over. If you're comfortable with it there, then it's not my place to tell you what you can and can't do. I was just always taught to try to keep valuables hidden in dorms so that someone walking by couldn't easily see it.

I went into my local Apple Store (Arndale, Manchester UK) and just asked if they had any iCurves in stock. The guy just showed me where they were and I paid for it. They didn't have the newer Griffin Elevators in, just the iCurve, but it seems as though a lot of people prefer the iCurve.

just rearranged furniture in my room, now the desk is next to the window as opposed to my older setup. this is pretty much it for now. the gameboy advance may or may not stay on the desk though, i man favor a minimalist look. biggest change though is the monitor, got it for under 200 bucks on sale at office depot last week. and it has two outputs, so i can easily switch monitors from the mac to pc without too much trouble.

sorry for the low light, this was at 2 am this morning and i had the macbook closed (that's my pc's screen on the monitor, not the macbook's.)

Nope. Applied invisible skin to both white and black Macbooks so they look shiny while protecting it :D . I no longer have the white Macbook as it didn't match my "all" black setup.

That's one clean setup! How are you liking the Logitech keyboard? Too bad it doesn't come in black or else I'd get it...

You should get rid of the lappy and get a MBP :p , that way you'll still be able to get have the "aluminum" setup. I didn't know the WD HDs come in silver/aluminum, definitely matches your setup quite nicely.

not sure what samsung phone you see-i wish i could get a MBP but unfortunately I really do need a windows machie with me as several of my classes at school have software that only works on windows and i dont want to have to boot into it to do homework-as for the hard drive-its a model that has been discontiuned since i bought it-it was likley replaced by the drive sitting next to it

I also love the keyboard-logitech rules!

1. Yeah Rid yourself of the Inspirion. Keep a copy of the WinXP CD so you can install it on a MacBook. You dont need the top tier MB just one that can do most of the simplistic stuff you do on the Mac Pro while your mobile.

2. Rid yourself of the Palm AFTER a final sync. Get yourself a decent smartphone to replace it. Double duty on the smartphone that can iSync and be used as a modem for your Laptop (MB I mean).

3 Alternative, sell the Dell & the Zire and use it for upgrade to the 2.6Ghz Xeon or use for more RAM - apps - and maybe server fee's??

how do u like those speakers? they weren't too hard on the wallet, so i had a look at them, but i was thinking they might not sound so good, or not enough power? i don't think i saw on the box what the ratings (and i'm too lazy to look it u). Home: very simple easy to use do not care about the wires; just need to have the functionality:
Not included is the Nikon D50; JVC Everio; and the Nikon Coolpix S9

In the car setup: the trunk of my car is setup to be a mobile office for work.

I carry in the trunk a pelican case with my latop; the D-50; JVC Everio; and Nikon Coolpix S9.

I also have a Canon Pixma printer networked to a linksys wireless accesspoint which I get an internet connection using Verizon with it is also hard wired to my MDT in the front of the vehicle; I have my Motorola XTS-2500 portable 800 MHZ radio; Motorola Advisor II pager; full set of globe structural fire fighting gear; vehicle rescue gear; uniform shirt for when I have to do PR stuff on scene; lint brush (laugh but when ya need it its a god sent; two pelican cases with pre plans in it; and gloves.

In the back seat not pictured is a full set of Advanced life support gear and a Lifepack 12 monitor as well as another pelican case with the narcotics.

I've had a few updates since I last posted. I have added the M-Audio StudioPro 3 speakers, really nice speakers for the price. I also added a Lacie external Lightscribe burner. At the far right is a digital picture frame my girlfriend got for christmas.

The iMac screen looks blue because I had my camera set to incandescent white balance, it made the rest of the room look better.

My desk actually is a L-Shape but my room didn't allow for it, but I was able to make it work without the bend. Maybe my next place will give me enough room. I have an M-Audio 88es keyboard that will fit perfect along the long part of the desk when I can make the desk full size.

Under my desk is the cat scratch post and a bed they like to sleep on.

Here's mine, I got the MacBook in November and the FIREPOD a couple weeks ago (and the 'rents got my Logic Express for Christmas :D)

So I just got a stock 15" 2.33 Core 2 Duo with a glossy, I got it for everyday use and Audio editing, and in the future, HD Video editing. It runs super fast, couple of minor problems that I resolved. Got a new power adapter already, no hassle :).

The FIREPOD is the recording interface sitting on top of my Yamaha Stereo Receiver, RX-396. Those two plus the speakers I stole from the living room a couple of weeks ago makes it to be a super sweet sounding setup. The speakers are Yamaha NS-2HX's.

The only similarity I see is that it's white and it has keys. Other than that, it's pretty darn different...look at the arrow keys. And the keys left of the space bar. And the shape of the keys. The shape of the Return key. The lack of a help/home/pageup/delete/end/pagedown block.

I think that's about as different of a keyboard as you can get. But it is white. And it has keys.

Jasonbot-

I did not even realize that anyone knew these existed. I read somewhere that only 10 were made and given out to team members. I don't know if that is correct but could very well be.

The clear case gave the mech folks a look to see if everything fit well and then decided to build some working ones as a perk. Apple was known to give away hardware to the team that designed it.

That's about all I remember of the story. Not sure how many of these are still around. I only know of one other and that was all by accident when I was doing some web searching.

Thanks for looking.

I went there for a month last year, am currently learning Japanese. I love it there. Europe is so boring. I am doing a Ph.D though, so I need to wait at least 2 and a half more years before going anywhere!!

Wow that's cool. Nice name hehe. :) May ask what area you are doing your Ph.D in? I'm finishing my master in law soon so kinda wondering on doing a Ph.D as well, but don't know which uni yet, lol

Japan would be way cool, hmm I better start enrolling on a course...

I paid $170 can, bought it locally. Came with OSX 10.3 cd's too! With the Aiport+Adaptor I'm thinking this was a decent price. I also pint pointed the whine and it is infact the hdd, so I'm going to be replacing that. At the moment it's annoyingly loud, so loud, I had to turn it off.

http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/3108/n2861031919226846968ci8.jpg

Second - Mac Mini - Great but slower than my Powerbook, the 17" screen was good though, as 12" felt too small.

Yeah that looks like a 24". One way I tell is that an Apple keyboard is exactly the same width as a 20" widescreen LCD, and that one is definitely larger than the keyboard.

Stuck to the desk? What about when your iCurve comes (hopefully the last gen one- because you've got a Macbook) and you need to get it off? I hope you didn't use anything too permanent. But, if you didn't, and your macbook is resting on it, at the edge of your desk, we've got a problem. This is a lose-lose situation. :(

Nothing the windex on the glass couldn't handle. :P

And when I get my iCurve, I will have a 19" monitor (miniDVI to DVI) and set that up on the desk next to it.

Thanks for comments. :D
