Can I ask what equiptment you've got hooked up to it?
I've got a friend down atm and he's quite interested lol. He works for a private hospitals radiography (is that right??) depart, and probably has a supercomputer just to do more or less the same job your doing there :P

ok, i'm turning fifteen in a couple of weeks so go easy on my inexperience.
I'm planning on getting a macbook pro and, for home, hokeing it up to a 22" e228wfp dell monitor (I know acd's are probably better but at twice the price i'm all set). Anyway, I was wondering if I could use the dell monitor and the mbp's screen at the same time, like a duel screen kind of thing. I also am curious how duel screen works, as I have never used a duel screen. I would probably just do something as simple as putting iTunes on the mbp's screen and everything else on the dell. Thanks for your help and I will post pics of my setup when I get it all!
Any help would be great!!:D

I don't use dual screens with my PowerBook, but the short answer to your question is that yes, the MBP will handle multiple screens. AFAIK, it'll recognize your second screen as soon as you plug it in. As for how it works with apps opening in a specific screen or something like that, I'm not sure. Someone else here will no doubt know, though.

Dual screens work essestially as one, imagine you've got the two screens side by side. You'd just launch an application (from say your dock which would only be on one screen) and you could just move it from screen 1 to screen 2 as easily as if it was just one large screen!
Its really simple and REALLY handy.
Not sure how expose would work though :S

I'm not even sure if I'm getting a mb or a mbp and I had to work for the money, and as I don't have to pay rent and stuff
Thanks
P.S. It would be helpful if you didn't try to expose me as a spoiled teenager and answer my original question as I am still a little confused (unfortunatly I have yet to recieve either the computer or the moniter so I can not toy around with it yet (do you have to set it up in system prefs? is is difficult?))
P.P.S. Thanks for those of you who actually answered my questions, I just get frustrated when everyone thinks that all teenagers with a macbook pro are spoiled

Sorry, this may sound a little random, but I have seen these speakers all over this thread and I really like them them and I found them on amazon for 140 so does anyone have the Altec Lansing FX6021 (http://www.alteclansing.com/product_details.asp?pID=FX6021), do you recommend them? I really like the fact that they're wireless and heard that they produce pretty good sound but wasn't sure if they were worth it. It was either these or the Logitech Z-4's (http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/home_pc_speakers/devices/250&cl=us,en) ($70 on amazon). Thanks for your help! :)

Why don't we just turn off the [IMG] all together and just allow [TIMG], we would never have to deal with this issue again.

I have the FX6021s and they're great. Really good sound quality. They aren't wireless though. They have one cable coming out from each speaker going to the sub. It's kind of like the wire on the ACDs. They're definitely great speakers. Very good sound quality and they look awesome too.

Yeah, I think I too would prefer the Apple keyboard, just so I felt like I was using a Mac and not a PC, plus I'm too familiar with the Apple keyboard now to change. Nonetheless, that is still a nice keyboard. Maybe Apple will be updating its keyboard soon anyway?

You can buy a Mini-DVI to VGA or Mini-DVI to a regular DVI port, then plug your monitor into that. MacOS should detect it and every thing else is basically automatic. You can then go to system prefs and customize it as you see fit.

It is helpful when larger images are posted with [timg] tags especially because not all of us browse MR w/ 20", 24", or 30" displays. ;)
Likewise, if quoted posts have images in them, it's really nice if you either change it to a link (by adding url tags around the image link like so: linky (http://sexysetupforme.net)) or if you remove the image altogether.
Do not fret. When you quote a post, you'll notice there's a little blueish arrow that looks like this: http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/buttons/viewpost.gif.
If you click on that, it takes you back to that post-- such that you can rather easily see the poster's images. :)

Custom desk from Berkeley Engineering, 17" 2.16 Ghz Core Duo (waiting for the next update), 500gb quad eSATA, old creature speakers, old apple BT keyboard, old mouse pad, Logitech Bluetooth MX Laser, iSight, 23" ACD.
Yes... I forgot to straighten out my external hard drive and display before taking the picture. :( Both are just ever so slightly askew.
A couple things I will be doing with my setup within the next year:
1 - Just stripped / grinded the rust and paint from the desk frame, and will be having it sand-blasted soon (will match apple's pro products nicely).
2 - At some point I will be buying a Mac Pro.
3 - I will then sell the Macbook Pro, and buy a Macbook.
4 - I will then add an additional 23" display.
=)

PS: mStand (http://www.raindesigninc.com/mstand.html) coming any day now! ^_^ Gonna have to swap my setup all around when it does.

Actually, you can get those keys to work with some shareware apps out there. The most recommended one is ControllerMate (http://orderedbytes.com/controllermate/), I believe.
Groovin! I've been looking for something like this for the Logitech Elite keyboard. Logitech's drivers are the devil.
I'm wondering if this can run alongside with USB Overdrive...

Here's my list of Macs through the ages.
Quadra 840 av (can you believe this cost $5,000 at the time?)
Powerbook 190c
Motorola StarMax 3000/200
PowerMac G4 400mHz
Missing, the crazy list of other computers and redundant "I-Don't-Know-Why-I-Own-This" machines. For some reason, as far as Macs go, I still own a MacSE with hard drive, and a Performa, that still works nicely with my Miracle Keyboard. I'm not entirely sure if the USB -> SERIAL converter still works after all this time, through Classic mode. Yick.

Is that mouse a 1600dpi Razer? I was thinking of buying it but I can't tell how it's any different than the Razer Krait (expect for the colour!), which is £5 cheaper?
Hi Eden,
It has no difference between the Krait, as least in my opinion that is. My Mate is using the Krait while i'm using the ProSolutions. In my opinion it could just be the different colors. :)

I didn't think that there was any difference in specs other than the colour. The Krait (which I already have one of, I was thinking of getting another) is an awesome mouse for £23.49 but I'm not really bothered about the colours matching, at least not enough to pay £28.14 for the same mouse! I meant £29.29 will get me a DiamondBack! Thanks for confirming my suspicions!

The only place I know is IKEA, but glenn's lights are expensive! They're touch sensitive.
You turn them on put lightly tapping the side, and you can tap again to adjust the brightness.

That's a very good job of cable management especially when you have a clear desk and a fair number of gadgets.

First off, thanks for all the nice comments. As far as running cables, I really took my time putting this office together for that exact reason. Being a glass desk, a mess of cables underneath would look terrible. I actually ran all the components for the TV (DVD Player, receiver, even my old PC) into the closet on the left hand side of the desk. From the closet, they go through the back of another closet (right behind the TV) and come out right in back of the TV. I took a while to plan and setup for it, but the result was worth it.
For using the TV as a monitor, I haven't been able to stop using it as a monitor since I got it. With the keyboard tray pulled out all the way, and the tilt on the TV it is actually not so bad. Every little while I take a break and move the screen down to the MBP to give my neck a rest, but its no big deal. That was the lowest I could mount the TV for it to be comfortable to others watching from the couch. Once again, thanks for all the comments.

There's mine, kinda in a compact space put I'm getting a new desk in about a week and a half :D
With all those CPU's and mice, I was wondering if you ever heard of a program called Synergy. It is the best program I have ever used. It is acutally a network-based KVM, letting you use one mouse and keyboard to control several computers on the same network. With my wireless mouse and keyboard, I am able to go across four screens (MBP and extended desktop + PC and extended desktop) seamlessly. Best of all, it's open source so it's free and available at http://synergy2.sourceforge.net/. Just thought you should check it out :)

Brilliant!
As for using it for a monitor, what about getting a lapdesk type thing, rolling your chair back and using a wireless mouse + keyboard?

With all those CPU's.... who created the idea a CPU is a computer....
Yes yes, it may sound anal another one of those posts people will be thinking when they see my post of this.
Correct me if I'm wrong but a CPU is the processor and those would be personal computers...
It's just I find it rather silly when some desk brochures you read CPU desks, or CPU towers. I find it very silly on how they describe such things. :)

He never said that, but the CPU is like the brain of the computer....trying using a computer with out it....see how far you'll get.

When I first saw the notification in my email, I glimpsed the words "sticker-ising" and "MacBook". Had me worried there for a sec, but it actually doesn't look have bad.

Yes, but you can't physically see the CPU so its irrelevant to call it that.
You could pretty much say the same thing about the memory or graphics card or motherboard. They all need each other to run.

Yup......but those don't make saying CPU wrong.

Why would stickers make it less inviting? If anything it would make it more inviting. Not alone will they be stealing a macbook, but they'll be getting stickers with the deal!

It's harder to flog stolen goods that are obviously identifiable.
