hey man, is that just a regular table? The reason I ask is because if it is I'd like to see how you manage your wires and stuff, at this point I have to use a table cloth to hide the mess of wires under my table...could you post a pic of the underneath?
It's kind of a mess under there after getting this new desk, but here you go:
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1049/1314402610_19ef1afc3b_o.jpg
All the wires hanging down will be run to the left and down the leg, into the wire tubing. Just havent gotten around to fixing it yet...

lol...purtee on top but messy on the bottom. I have the same wiring mess and I was considering picking up those wire tubes (don't know what they're called, exactly) to clean up the nest a little.

They help a lot...when you use them. I dont think my nest is all that bad...I've seen much much worse...

Yeah! I was about to buy the 2.8Ghz Extreme model but since I got the PS3 for my gaming needs...the 2.0Ghz version will do the job...mainly for CS3 and running VMware for testing purposes.
What do you do, subcell? I too am running CS3 and VMware and Parallels (deciding between the two at the moment).
I'm running a Macbook right now, considering adding a 24" iMac in October or sooner.

Hate to ask, but is that bamboo a real plant? Assuming it's real, does it grow well in those pebbles & is it any particular species (is that the correct term?) of bamboo? I wouldn't mind adding a bit'o'boo to my setup ;)

No, I actually did it myself, and it took loads of work. Removing the Quicksilver's panels (especially the sides) is a tedious task to say the least. The color is a slightly deeper version of Dodge Inferno Red, with several coats of clear. (all automotive paint) There is also some gold flake that is visible in bright light (first picture). That said, here are some more pics.

OS upgrades... you name it... still kicking butt...

:p That phone does look pretty coool
It has a touchscreen (hardly multitouch quality though) and supports custom java/xml services so with some effort it can do a lot of clever things.
Only downside is the difficulty in getting it working like complex config files that have to be 100% perfect or the phone just sits there doing nothing.

Get or make a makeshift wallmount. kinda like a ilap but more inclines like this "\" off the wall. Mount your Denon's on those and you mixer on a tall waist-high table that does double duty to store your amps in parallel vertically underneath with CD just on a shelf above teh amps. Amps you don't change much the mixer you'll use constantly, or store your amps. you won't be throwing any jams in that HUT ;) - but you save on the booze, you still have a honey over or two, and you won't have to use a "fire" excuse to get them out in the morning. However, you better still keep your fingers in practice if you know how the DJ saying goes ;). But seriously think of a slightly vertical 1 wall setup.
Also consider getting a residence to through parties at or sidekick against a better DJ that you both compliment well together - if you can get your foot in the door. Then you won't need to worry about getting a bigger place to party with. If you DJ at party's make SURE you have a tight entourage of 5 minimum that you can FULLY trust to keep ya equipment in check. I've seen a few MK1200 2's go missing just at the end of a party because DJ had 2 ppl wimp out on him. Shady' and sucks. but things to consider.

That is quite silly if his was taken out with no surge protection. If I have any expensive equipment I'll hook it up to a surgemaster. No questions asked. I wouldn't even hook it up to the mains temporarily. I just wouldn't risk it with expensive equipment. :)

It's stories like his that make me even more paranoid! As it is, I don't connect anything more valuable than a lightbulb straight into the mains - everything else goes through 50KV surge protectors, along with a 500VA UPS for my server & all it's precious data.

I collect iPods, and i'm trying to get at least one working model from each generation.
But to be honest: I have only one real working nano, a blue one which is not evne in the pictures), the other ones are dummy's.
The rest of them are real and working iPods, except for the Gen4 Ipod and the silver mini which desperately need a new harddrive..
So well.. sorry guys, i cheated a bit with my 4 fake nano's. No offense meaned!
And the missing iphone: thing is: I live in Belgium, so no iPhone for me (yet). But I've pre-ordered a touch, so,..
As for the use of all the iPods:
at the moment I only use my 80gig white for music, the pink shuffle when I'm out at night, and the original shuffle as a usbkey.
The rest of them are just really cool looking, but rarely used backup drives :D

So you work at your machines during lightning storms... surely you could see/hear thunder/lightning away in the distance before it even came close or hit your house.
Soon as I see one flash or even hear thunder they get switched off and unplugged.
Surely lightning does not just appear from nowhere without any warning whatsoever on its own and boom strike your house and fry all your equipment.
I find that extremely hard to believe. :)
lost eden

I find that extremely hard to believe.
I find it hard to believe that lightning hitting the actual house itself would cause that damge anyway. The only way it could have taken out ALL of that equipment would be if it somehow arced into contact with a power main, in which case surge protectors would have quelled it. I call supreme BS.

Not all surge protectors are made equally. In fact, not all "power strips" are surge protectors. A real quality surge protector that will protect your equipment from lightning will easily set you back $300-500. No surge protector that you pick up at The Home Depot for $20 will protect your equipment from a lightning strike.

I had a lightning strike hit my house. The damage was:
1 x PowerMac G4
1 x mac mini
1 x airport extreme
1 x external HD
1 x logitech mouse charger
So yeah lightning strikes are bad news.
We where in at the time and there was no warning. It was a bit over-cast but nothing more than that. Ok after the strike we where nearly flooded too but hey, no-one was hurt.

What about the surgemasters that guarantee up to 2 - 4 thousand worth of damage. Some are even higher. I've seen some from Belkin advertised as covered up to £10,000.
I have a few belkins that if it takes out your equipment they'll cover you of damage up to those 2 - 4k. It states it in the documentation, if the surgemaster fails and your equipment is ruined because of it, they will cover you.
Also the Belkins come with lifetime warranties (well mine at least). Thats how sure they are it wont take out your equipment.
I can't speak for all the surgemasters they have though. Just the ones I had purchased a long time ago. :)
Daveman Deluxe

vohdoun: I don't trust manufacturer guarantees/insurance. I have no hard reason except that Belkin is a company which I pay once for its product, not one which I pay monthly and which loses my business if I'm not satisfied. If I buy a surge arrestor from Belkin, they've got my money. If I had equipment such that I were concerned about lightning strikes, I would buy both a surge arrestor and insurance.
Also, a lifetime warranty does not imply that Belkin will replace your equipment. A warranty only covers the failure of the product to meet specifications, not the failure of the product to fulfill its purpose. A lifetime warranty implies that Belkin is confident that the surge arrestor it manufactured will meet its specs, not that Belkin will pay for equipment damage. In fact, the warranty text probably explicitly states that Belkin will not pay for damaged equipment, absent some other sort of insurance programme.

All sorts of stuff – usually making things out of clothes and things I love that are falling apart but I can't bear to part with. I made cushion covers out of all the red t-shirts with slogans on that I loved but were getting a bit old and stinky. ;)
The last thing I made was a messenger bag, and the shoulder strap pad is made from the furry lining from a coat I'd had since I was 15. The outside of the coat fell apart but I kept the fluffy lining for projects like this.

I'm currently thinking of making a jacket out of an old mens suit jacket but haven't had the time to properly look at it yet. It's a brilliant old sewing machine though. My mum gave it to me for my birthday a few years ago and it takes (most) of the abuse I shove at it. "Take these four layers of denim, bitch!". ;)
I'm really picky about clothes and bags, so being able to make and alter your own is a good thing™, and it's not as hard as people think. Especially if you bodge it. :D

ACTUALLY, if it were Glossy, you would only see a very small dot right where the flash was. Glossy does not diffuse the light across the screen like in that picture. You would only see the small point of light the size of the flashbulb in the camera.

Thanks. :) If you fancy a go, get yourself a second-hand sewing machine and give it a try. Everyone can sew straightish lines, and most things are a series of straight lines. ;) Once you've made a tote/shopping bag, you get tempted to make a shoulder bag, and then a lined shoulder bag, and then a messenger bag, and so on. If anything, having a sewing machine saves you a fortune in buying curtains, and shortening trousers and so on, and then anything else is just fun. :D There's no big mystery to it, just get stuck in. The other thing is with sewing is you can't really go wrong, because you can always unpick. ;)

Most 'mid-to-high' end surge suppressors, and almost all battery backup units, have not just a 'lifetime warranty' for the product itself, but also an equipment replacement guarantee. If a surge gets through their product, and kills your computer, they will replace your computer. APC even offers data recovery service! (i.e. if your hard drive dies due to a power surge while protected by one of their UPSes, they will pay a professional data recovery company to get your data back.)
I have taken advantage of such guarantees twice. Once from APC, once from Tripp Lite. With the APC, a surge blew out the UPS, and a printer that was connected to it. APC paid full original retail cost of the printer. (It was 5 years old at the time, so while an 'equivalent' printer should only have cost maybe $100, I got $400.) With the Tripp Lite, there was no surge, the UPS all of a sudden went *POP*, hisssssssssss, and everything that was plugged into it was fried. (Computer, monitor, DSL modem.) The hard drive was okay, but the motherboard, processor, and memory, and power supply were toast. Tripp Lite sent me a check for $1500. (All I had to do was send in the receipt for the computer component purchases, and they sent me a pre-paid box to send the UPS back to them.)

How do you manage with the :apple:tv on the wall like that? How do you use the :apple: remote with it?
I works just fine. The sensor is quite sensitive so I can click from anywhere in the room. As far as the sensor goes, It's facing the TV.
I did take off the AppleTV logo cover and replaced it so it was facing the proper way while looking at it. BTW I went veeeerrrry slow taking it off. I would have been pissed if I cracked it. Used a thin putty knife and just worked my way around and around until it came off. There was a lot of stickiness on the unit so I just pushed it back on and it's never come up once.
Cheers!
p.s. I'd highly recommend wall mounting it. The unit doesn't quite get as hot and I don't worry about cooking something else on the desk. I wish Apple TV could be shut down rather than having to yank the cord out. Standby heat is still too hot for my likes.

What size is the TV?
Why do you have 2 360s?
Whats the large white thing on the end of the one on the floor?
:)
Love the setup!

My TV is a LG 42LB5D. It's 42"... just got it last week, 1080p looks great!
The xbox 360 on the floor is a developer kit, I have it at home for some play testing on a xbox live game my work is creating. And to answer ReanimationLP's question, the black dev kits are the ones that do debugging as well. This is just a normal dev kit.
Now I just need a proper 5.1 system :D

Nice setup! One suggestion: Could you stretch the the keyboard cable behind the desk? Either way, it looks great. Enjoy your new Mac.
I just did that and it looks much better! Thanks for the suggestion! :D

Hi all
I have been enjoying this thread, seeing everyones set-ups. Here is mine. Its in my bedroom. I have 2 "blackbooks" one is connected to a sony 23" monitor (the last model dedicated to computers that they made) Just yesterday I got the cords/adapters needed to connect that blackbook to my Sony 32" Bravia TV that is in the unit next to the computer. For now I am just going to watch movies on the hard drive connected to the Blackbook on the TV. I still prefer to pull up my nice recliner to the monitor and do my "computer" work. The cabinet below the computer section holds a My Book 500GB HD. When those doors are open I just tuck my feet into the cabinet and recline in my chair. My second "blackbook" is one mobile. I use it with my iLap on the bed or out on the balcony.
I hate cords so I have them all well hidden in behind the wallunit. Next year I am planning on replacing the windows desktop downstairs in my office with a Mac Pro. That will takeover from the windows desktop that is now a server for the 2 blackbooks. All this is serviced by the airport extreme down in the office. There is an Airport express connected to the receiver above the TV so that I can have my itunes playing in my bedroom.

I was thinking about it, but I'm not sure I like the smaller Apple bluetooth keyboard. And after using this Apple keyboard, I can't - and won't - use anything else.
That was what also put me off the new wireless one, plus I would also have had to buy a bluetooth addon. As I don't have bluetooth at all.

A tour around my home office...
Location: South Island, New Zealand on a rainy Sunday morning.
Details: Macbook C2D 2.0Ghz, Samsung 19" widescreen, Brother 5250DN printer (on the floor), Brother multifunction scanner/printer/copier (on top of filing cabinet), an external 160GB HDD (hidden from view between monitor and Macbook), a Treo 650 somewhere on the desk there.
Shelves on new bookcase look a little bare because a) it's only just arrived, and b) am slowly moving books home from my office.
