hmm, since you can't add images to an edit, a new post. This is my current setup since moving to Europe. My desk is also never this clean. Threw everything on the floor for now.
Of course it's all IKEA stuff. Too poor to buy other furniture and not worth it at the moment.
What's funky about my new place is the floorboards. Got to be from the beginnging of the century or something. They're really squeaky though.

I believe you CAN add pics to a older post, you just have to go "advance" So before you go calling others noobs and being rude, you may want to figure that out:rolleyes:

Not sure what brand it is, but I bought it from Staples (http://staples.com). I looked briefly on their website but couldn't find it. I want to say it was around $100.

Hi all
I have been enjoying this thread, seeing everyones set-ups. Here is mine. Its in my bedroom. I have 2 "blackbooks" one is connected to a sony 23" monitor (the last model dedicated to computers that they made) Just yesterday I got the cords/adapters needed to connect that blackbook to my Sony 32" Bravia TV that is in the unit next to the computer. For now I am just going to watch movies on the hard drive connected to the Blackbook on the TV. I still prefer to pull up my nice recliner to the monitor and do my "computer" work. The cabinet below the computer section holds a My Book 500GB HD. When those doors are open I just tuck my feet into the cabinet and recline in my chair. My second "blackbook" is one mobile. I use it with my iLap on the bed or out on the balcony.
I hate cords so I have them all well hidden in behind the wallunit. Next year I am planning on replacing the windows desktop downstairs in my office with a Mac Pro. That will takeover from the windows desktop that is now a server for the 2 blackbooks. All this is serviced by the airport extreme down in the office. There is an Airport express connected to the receiver above the TV so that I can have my itunes playing in my bedroom.
All that and no talk about the Cabbage Patch Kid on your bed?! :) Cute.

very nice. i really, really, really miss the iMac G4 design. is there a chance apple could make that design but with oled screens (oled because i am assuming they are lighter in weight)....

Sep 24, 2007, 12:30 AM
Thanks nlivo. Whenever I show people the G4 they're blown away by it. I always hear, "Where's the rest of it?". Comparing the two side-by-side is amazing to see how far the technology has advanced in four years. The iMac I just bought is appr. in the same place in the iMac line that my G4 was. There are absolutely no glare issues with this one, dead pixels, etc. The only thing that is better about the old one are the speakers. Whatever. I love the all-in-one design so its really no big deal. Now I'm just trying fine tune everything here. For some reason iTunes won't recognize some of my purchased music. If I manually locate the file in the music folder it plays and the "!" disappears but there's enough that its a pain...but I digress.

i wanted a clock that had multi time zones... took ages to find one that wasnt a rip off, but its from a random shop.
The desk is from Ikea, its just a normal one from their range, with glass and draws.

You can always have a glass shop (the ones that do windsheild repair, etc.) to make a custom one for you. I had one done for my old desk it came up to about 50 bucks. :D

I have had one for about 3 - 4 years now and they are really cool. I just have to remember to use it! Also it helps if you spend a few minutes / hours setting it up properly with every application. Pausing a DVD with it is a bit more stylish than pressing the space bar!

It's not a stupid question, it's one I was asking a few months ago.
New, it runs about $280 American with shipping, and everything about it is high quality. The key switches are some of the best in the industry, It works with every OS, has DIP switches that change the function of some of the keys. It has a USB 2.0 hub that is as fast as a direct USB connection to my lappy when transferring large files from my external drive.
Plus, the design of the key layout is great. The Fn key works to make the small layout give full control. You can touch type with out ever having to reach for arrow keys or anything.
Google it if you are interested, there are plenty of reviews and message board posts that can answer all your questions.

after finishing Uni and getting the mac pro, I was only using the mbp for basic stuff and it felt like overkill, plus I really missed my blackbook from last year so I downgraded, which is funny as my mbp was a 2.0 cd and my blackbook is a 2.16 c2d

arcsbite, i really dig your setup. i see you are using an AEBS? do you have those external drives hooked up to it? if so, how well does that work? i've read so many mixed reviews and am thinking of just purchasing a NAS type enclosure to achieve the same results. i do still need a .11n router though, so I don't know what to do. anyway, i'd love to hear about the details of that portion of your setup. everything is so neat and clean.

The keyboard is the Logitech Dinovo Edge. My revolution was smooth from the start, but I programmed its buttons with Controllermate, which can be found here (http://www.orderedbytes.com/controllermate/). I used controllermate to program my keyboard buttons, too. It can also be used to edit the acceleration and tracking speed of the mouse. I use the revolution with the Icemat 2 mouse pad, so it just glides and is very smooth.

arcsbite, i really dig your setup. i see you are using an AEBS? do you have those external drives hooked up to it? if so, how well does that work? i've read so many mixed reviews and am thinking of just purchasing a NAS type enclosure to achieve the same results. i do still need a .11n router though, so I don't know what to do. anyway, i'd love to hear about the details of that portion of your setup. everything is so neat and clean.
I have all 4 externals hooked up to a usb hub and the hub is hooked upto the AEBS, works great, I just connect to them through using the airport disk tool and they mount like my old NAS drive.
they are all formatted in HFS+ but mount and work great via tiger, leopard and XP/Vista

figure i'll post up my latest setup since i was asking questions about other folks' setups:
it's actually changed a bit more since this pic. i'll be switching up the desk layout a bit more modifying the ikea jerker even more. plus i hope to get some more stuff up on the walls now that the floating shelves have been taken down to make room for the added height of the jerker's top shelf.
http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1204/954767265_61849844d8.jpg?v=0
Basically what you see there is my c2d mbp on the left, my gateway 21" lcd in the middle that has switching video for the hd dtv receiver, the mbp, and my work laptop on the right which is a cd hp nc8430. mounted inifinity minuettes under the top shelf which is controlled by an old sony 835 receiver. i have one of the addons for the jerker that is like a cable tray; i've also mounted 2 apc ups' under the desk and wrapped most exposed wires with split wire loom.
it still needs some work; hopefully when i get the AEBS i can place it and the external hd and the modem elsewhere and move the rest of the desk to another area in the room. we'll see though.

It's just the centre speaker for my speakers. I was hoping it would fit under the "chin" of the iMac but it's just too big. On top of the iMac it covered the iSight.

Yeah, unfortunately, unlike Windows, the Mac OS doesn't "reverse shift" when caps lock is on. (On a Windows computer, if you have caps lock on, holding shift makes the letter LOWER case. So that if you typed a 'normal' sentence accidentally with caps lock on, iT WOULD BE AS IF i WERE TYPING aPPLE IpOD NAMES LIKE THIS.) As I said, unfortunately, the Mac OS keeps it always capital when caps lock is on. (No, I don't think paola is accidentally turning caps lock on every time he types an 's', then turning it back off when he finishes typing an 's'.)

But there is one thing nobody is sure of since it's not out yet, will it be as solid as the current enV. I won't be upgrading mine anytime soon.

you'll see on there that I am a pilot by profession too if you look, but I've since gotten out of full time flying as I hated living out of a suit case.. We (my wife and I) now just do portrait photography (www.samahaphotography.com) which makes for a good tax write off on the camera/computer :apple: , and which provides a decent steady income, and live off of residual income from real estate investments that I made 10 years ago.
I still fly contract on the side from time to time, but I don't think I'll go back to full time employment for anyone anytime soon.. or at least I hope not to!

As far as i know, you would have to wall mount it, for the height of the current stand wouldn't fit the monitor in portrait position. You could however make a custom stand, or if you are really good with aluminum, make an addition that fits on teh current stand to allow it to fit the new one.
Simply, you would have to wall mount, or buy a new vesa stand, and not jsut the mount.
They do sell both wall mounts and desk mounts with the vesa standard.

Are there any stores, other than online stores, where you can buy the Griffin Elevator stand? I went to the local apple store and they don't carry any so I was wondering if I'm stuck ordering online. And if I am, Apple doesn't deliver to P.O. boxes so how would I get it shipped to me at college? Just send it to the main college address and pick it up there?

Hows the sirius, I have the same model but the power connection seems to have some problems. Do you have anything similar to that?
Sorry haven't checked back earlier. I don't personally have that problem b/c I don't move it very often, only for long car rides. I know the new ones have the universal dock so that problem doesn't happen. However, if you get a new one you get a regulated fm transmitter b/c the fcc had that recall, I would keep it as long as you can.

Love their receivers.I don't really have any experience with home theaters except for a good hour on an audiophile friend of mine's setup, but I do know that Denon makes proper gear, and at an affordable price (which is why it appeals to me - I'm a poor teenager who wants high end sound :) )

I made some slight changes to my setup, most noticably, got rid of my work laptop on the desk (will build a place to put it under the lcd on the right). Also did some cable cleanup with split loom, etc..

1 it keeps a bit of air circulation going while the laptop is closed, keeping it cooler, 2 it gives you more desk space & room to put things underneath the laptop (such as external hdd's in my case) and 3 it looks way cooler!! :D:D

Yes, having the screen at eye-level makes sense, however using a stand when;
a.) the machine is closed
b.) you don't actually use any of the extra space beneath
c.) the cooling is designed to cope with the machine being on a flat surface & not suspended in the air
it's a bit pointless.

Having more space under the computer allows for more air movement. Sitting flat only allows a fraction of the air to flow under and cool the computer.
When I'm playing C&C3 via bootcamp I find that if I have my computer on my stand it runs cooler. If it sits on the table it will sometimes freeze because the GPU gets to hot.

It looks nice. haha.
I, however, use the space underneath my Elevator, and I use my macbook while it's atop the stand.
also; would I be right in saying that you probably use your MBP open aswell? 'cause if that's the case, then removing the stand from the desk just because the MBP is closed for a period of time proves pointless.

Problem with that is that it'd be too small! When you have that big of a monitor, you need a smaller res. I've yet to meet an unhappy LVM-37W3 owner, and I've talked with around 8-9 of them. It simply does everything very well for the price/performance ;)
Not sure of the panel, but I know it's a newer one than the problematic ones they had with the 1st and 2nd revisions. That's why it's continually rated so high among users on major reviewer sites (Newegg, cnet, etc.).

I like it a lot, it does take some time to get used to though. I'm coming from a wired aluminum version, where the keys were a tad more spread out around the command button.
It's so small that it's hard to get over for the first 24-48 hours. Even seeing the pictures online didn't prepare me for how small and light it is.
All that aside, I really do like it :D

I'm actually thinking of getting this stand mainly for this reason. How much of a temperature reduction do you see (assuming you measure it)? I'm trying to decide between this or just a notebook cooling pad (though the cooling pad doesn't give the advantage of the extra height).
Also, I noticed a lot of pictures with the Logitech Z-4 speakers. They look nice but how's the sound? I posted about these in the Peripherals forum but didn't get too many responses, so I hope you guys don't mind me posting here. Great pics, btw!

Well I don't have a way of measuring comp temps while playing... Scrin attacks and all :) but I have never had any issues of freezing gameplay or excessive heat.
The stand allows more air to move around the casing, which is why I like to have a fan nearby to move the air. A cooling pad forces air. A friend of mine has one on his MBP, I'll ask him if he sees any performance increases.

20" uses a LG TN 6-bit panel, 24" uses a much higher quality LG S-IPS true 8-bit, same one found in MUCH higher end NEC (and other companies) professional displays.
TN is a type of panel, known for their low quality, they are popular among gamers because they offer much lower response time, but don't offer near the color reproduction or viewing angle of an S-IPS.
Quality over quantity, quantity over quality, you decide.

I've used the Mighty Mouse alongside another mouse of mine (a Micro$oft one) and I find it to be a tad laggy and jumpy. The laggy part may be to my USB 1.1 on the PowerMac G4 I'm using it with, but the microsoft mouse is very responsive and accurate. It's on the same speed port too, when used with my docked.
On another note, I do like the portrait display mode you have there, very unique and interesting. Nicely done. Most people only use portrait with other, larger, monitors around them.

Compared to USB 2.0 wired mice (Labtec,...) and a Microsoft wireless optical USB mouse I've used before. I find the accuracy of the Mighty Mouse (as a pointing device) excellent. I also like the scrollball and find scrolling with this mouse very smooth (especially compared to the microsoft mouse I have).
I was a little bit worried when I read all these negative reviews, but now, I'm very glad I bought this MM. I've been using it for several hours a day during the last 40 days, and it always worked without a glitch.

Well. After this little surgery, my iBook worked fine for some days, but now it seems to have failed completely.
The warranty has past away and I do not have Apple Care.
Kind of a pity, so now I'm using a 15" HP laptop.

Southpaws are freaks of nature :p
So the following people are/were freaks:
Henry Ford, Jimi Hendrix, Paul McCartney, Michelangelo, Leonardo de Vinci, Charlie Chaplin, Marilyn Monroe, Pelé, Ayrton Senna, John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova, ...
Substitute the word southpaw with black people / jews / homosexuals and then see how your comment reads even with a smiley. Why is it deemed OK to talk this way about left handed people? What if I called you a freak for being right handed?

Are you serious? You really have to take a pill man.
It was said with a tongue out smiley face, just "pawing" fun, same as saying "Blondes have more fun," etc. by noticing he had his mouse on the left side of the keyboard.
Are you really saying that having fun with someone who is left-handed is in line with ripping on racial/sexual minorities?
Note his response: he took it as a joke as well, responding back a "haha!" and a smiley of his own.
Give me a break. Have a drink and relax...

To dispell boredom this afternoon I set about building a stand for my MacBook out of some scrap 1"x1/4" lengths. I might sand it all down, neaten it up a bit, then prime it, spray it, & gloss it, or I might be lazy & just leave the bare wood & joints. At any rate I'm going to stick some rubber on the bottom & along the lip at the front.

The MacBook Pro is my main computer, and it is connected to its 20" LCD, running in "Dual display mode."
The Power Mac G4 is my secondary computer.
All of the G3s were recently acquired by me and some friends from a school district upgrading to Mac Pros.
We've acquired a total of 20 PowerMac G3s, They are 300Mhz PPC G3 Processors, 192MB of RAM (Except for the one that recognizes only 64, the 128 stick does not work), but only 7 of the G3s are at my house, the rest are at my friends' house.
