I put the printer on the opposite end of the table - it's behind the 23" LCD - and brought the Power Mac from underneath to the top. I think I'm getting better reception with the antenna where it is. The same keyboard and mouse control the PowerBook when needed by way of a Belkin USB switch. I've gotten distributed processing in Compressor working between both computers - it probably shaves 15% off encoding times.

If you got a sweet wireless logitech keyboard and mouse for that Dell, iGary, it would look 10x better. Either way, though, I don't think that the dell monitor takes anything away from the Apple setup. The setup as a whole looks better, to me.

(they go in separately)Yup, or off center in case your two displays aren't identical. It just takes a little careful work in Photoshop to do that. Of course it helps to start with a really high resolution image. Attached below is an example, scaled down from 1920x1200 for the left and 1600x1200 for the right. edesignuk adapted the original image to span his two 20" displays. I found the image somewhere - if you search the forums you could find the link to the original file.

Yes, I know what he meant - he led his wires so they don't get all tangled and "visible". I'd like to do the same to my cables, and that's what I'm asking him, what does he use to/how did he lead the wires.

Off topic:
Relating to that, how do you all keep your systems so clean. I've tried it all. First I thought well, being on the desk = less dust. That didn't help. I had all 4 case fans blowing in so to create a "positive case pressure" so the dust wouldn't settle and come ut the big hole in the top. Well, whoever told me to do that was a dumb ass. I'm tired of cleaning my pc out every month, and have to because its a clear case. How in the hell do you keep em so clean.

iGary, is that the 24" Dell 2405FPW?
What performs better the ACD or Dell?
It is the 2005FPW, and I'd hook it up to a Macintosh before I made judgements, it looks crappy with Windows. The adjustment is nice, but it's plastic. The ACD's aluminum feel like sex. I'd still spend the extra 300 for something I stare at 12 hours a day.
Perhaps an Apple Mouse and Keyboard for the Dell iGary? Or at least remove the Apple mouse pad from under that hideous Dell...
Nah, actually the keybord and mouse work pretty well.
What mapping software is it? and plus you can play dvd's on it (the dell)
Seriously not trying to sound like an ass, but I can't tell you who's software it is (stupid non disclosure clause - although I'm sure someone could figure it out by looking hard enough). Didn't think about playing DVD's - good idea!
es, I know what he meant - he led his wires so they don't get all tangled and "visible". I'd like to do the same to my cables, and that's what I'm asking him, what does he use to/how did he lead the wires.
My bad on the spelling, I use adhesive cable tie mounts under the desk:

Here's a nice rechargeable battery site: green batteries (http://greenbatteries.com/) ... They test the batteries and chargers and have some good info. on batteries in general.

It's actually this new Belkin USB hub that's really cool. It's got three ports on the back (for my iMic, Keyboard, and ext. HD), as well as the top one which was designed for the iPod shuffle.

Ah yes. I've seen something similar here in the UK, doesn't look as nice though. The ones I've seen are much bigger and bulkier, hence I wasn't too sure if it was one of those. The ones I've seen you can stack (apparently!) hence why they have the top USB port, aswell as being handy for shuffles etc! Seems a very nice hub! Along with a very nice setup. Been wondering about a nice looking hub to look good next to a mac. I have a belkin 7-port see-through one from my old Wintel laptop. Its not too bad, has nice lights that look good in the dark. See my setup pic to see it.
Thanks.

Wow, your mouse looks all spacey in that photo. Yeah, the hub is nice and all, but it's actually a bit small for my needs. I may have to get a second hub that's more functional but not so pretty and hide it under the desk or something. I still need to hook up the printer, the scanner, the camera, blah blah etc.

Where did you get the plastic stand for your iBook?
That stand or riser is actually the iBreeze from Macmice. It is sad it is ignorantly overlooked because of the iCurve and it's a couple dollars cheaper too. I got it for $39.99 CDN from a store called London Drugs which is a good deal in my opinion. It's alot nicer in my opinion if you have a hutch on your desk so you don't need to lift it that high like the iCurve. It has (very quiet) fans underneath also and is powered by the iBooks USB with the funky clear USB cable you see. You can turn them on and off as you please with a switch. On the back of the iBreeze there is a passthrough so you can permantly plug in a USB hub. Then you can have all your USB devices connected with that one cable. This is the products website:
http://www.dvforge.com/ibreeze.shtml
And a very good review with LOTS of pictures:

Rod Rod; Love the latest completion of your setup. PS; Can I get a 1024x768 of that Apple Mighty Mouse please?? Thanks. Your setup is a beautiful blend of new (PowerMac G5) and old (the LCD's). When you upgrade your LCD's, hopefully not until Xmas, I'll be more than happy to purchase them.
@iGary, jesus man you are never gonna leave that room, so why dont you donate your work iMac G5 to me, hehe ;) . But Seriously, that is freakin insane. If I was the same hoodlum/roughneck/rudebwoy/ when I was 12, and came in your house, I'd think I was being setup for B&E!! Although a nice setup, I wonder if you just have way too much cash & time on your hands?? I have heard that when you get wealthy you (people in general) tend to get a little, well "off". At least its a seriously esthetic look to it, and its warm. When you get guests over, your gonna have to shut down the whole power grid just to get them off the comps.
Ok seeing both your setups, I can now peacefully die. :D

Very nice! Got to say, prefer the one with your iPod in it! New Dell LCD, Apple keyboard and your PB hooked up to it! Nice! Is your Dell still in their somewhere? Is your PB always hooked up to the screen? Nice desk, goes well with the BLACK Dell! Keyboard really stands out! A Mighty Mouse would look good!

Nice job! Lovin' that desk...the medium brown galant with the extensions. Is the one on the right an 80x80? I just got that desk (well need to go pick it up) with an 80x80 extension. Is it really that big? I like it...
I didn't want the round extension, the room isn't gigantic and I heard those just waste space. it looks really cool though!
All the cables are led, the POS Dell is here.
I'm done and ready for work.

Sure thing mad jew i got the external from Harvey Norman, its the Maxtor One touch and unfortunately the usb kind which i don't mind. The 100 gig cost me $200 it was there for $230 but Harvey Norman are slack and you just ask for a discount.
Harvey Norman only sells usb kinnds though, but im sure if you ask they will order a firewire model. They also have the lacie kinds.
If you want to shop online check this place out http://www.macmall.com.au/mall/customer/home.php?cat=402

Also, are the 2 sony PCs and the Mac Mini connected to that nice Dell LCD or is the Mac Mini connected to the 15"?You should go visit Traver Gallery... you'll see some of the best glass artists in the world there.
I kept the 850 MHz Sony notebook for a very good reason (http://www.clayj.com/html/BRVAIOBoy.htm)... it, too, is now a work of art. And yeah, the Sony PCs are connected to BOTH monitors (23" + 15"), but the Mac mini is connected to only the 23" (Mac mini = no dual monitor capability). All three machines share the same keyboard and mouse.

Yes you are right. There are two versions, one with the blue illuminating strip down the middle, another with an orange strip. Yes unfortunately it is only wired, no wireless option. It's a good stylish mouse, lovely and smooth to use. MS PressPass (http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/features/2004/jul04/07-08StarckMouse.mspx). I have two of the Dell displays, and I find this is EXACTLY what I'm using mine for. One monitor has Adium, iTunes, pearLyrics, Mail, and a Finder window open at all times. The other monitor is the one I use for whatever it is I'm actually doing at the time: Photoshop, GoLive, Illustrator, surfing, whatever.
It works great for me, and I love it and can't see how I could have just one monitor (unless it was that 30") again, but I can see how a 30" would be perfect for you, iGary. I think I could "manage," though, with one 30" instead of two 20s". (:

It looks quite similar to the Soho range at John Lewis, but they don't seem to have the same side panels.
Not sure i've got enough room for a corner set-up like that but i do need to find a funky desk asap as hopefully i'll be getting a cinema display next week to accompany my PB.

Did you try calling maxtor??? I can't remember if my PSC came with a USB cable. Maybe I just used the one from my old Lexmark. FYI, most printers you buy dont come with cables. Oh andIf you ever buy a Video Camera... they dont come with firewire cables.

Nice setup - I like the Samsung TV too. How'd you like it? It's nice to see the prices of those things getting more reasonable!

Over VGA the TV is fantastic, it's super clear, even when sitting really close. The only niggles I have found are with other aspects, such as the rather selective PIP, the TV has built in DTV, but you can't view that over PIP, and when you select either of the scart sources, you can only viewHDMI in PIP. Whereas sometimes when playing games that don't need the full screen I like watching the news.
Apart from that minor niggle, it's a wonderful TV, and yes the prices are plummeting on these things, I got mine for £798, (though that was a bit of luck, as the online retailer had listed it wrong, as the DTV version normally costs £980, so I got a good discount there), but buying online is the best option, as high street retailers are selling this for £1100.

here is my new setup, in all its glory: recieved this puppy on thursday the 1st, but the maxor 200GB hard drive causes kernel panics, 2 calls to apple later and still no resolve...and the HP PSC printer doesnt ship with a ******* USB cable !!! its so friggin annoying! i have had to buy another cable for the maxtor, to find it still doesnt work, then im gonna have to buy a new USB cable too!!!
AARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!
sory about my mini rant, the powerbook actually performs like a dream whe the hard drive has nothing to do with it.
im loving it!

I have been itching to get this new 12" iBook for my travel use. I bought a 12" PB for this purpose but I am too protective of this PB as it is such a nice piece of computing art. I think iBook should be more sturdier and can take some bumps on the road of life.

<<Pictures of ALL THOSE MACS snipped!
Wow, that's really an impressive array of Macs and computer technology power there! 2 ACDs on that desk, eh?! How do you manage to use them all with such little space?! You got a PowerMac tucked in behind, along with the kitchen sink??!! ;) :p
Nice collection. :)

Is that smaller white keyboard on the lower shelf an alternative mac keyboard that i haven't seen before or a pc keyboard?

That's a Kensington Mac thin keyboard. It has the Mac key along with volume and other buttons. I did not install any driver as it just worked by plugging into the USB port on my PB.

All right, here is my new desk set up in my new apartment I just moved into on the first. This is by far my favorite set up I have ever had, I feel like i have so much desk area to do homework and such. I can't think of anything else I would want to add, and that is a weird feeling :).
