In lieu of the clever and thrifty things we've enjoyed in countless setups seen in the
"Post Your Mac Setup: Past & Present (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=706374)" thread, it's time to show off your own personal DIY projects.

These may include but are certainly not limited to:

home/office/dorm/garage/lawn/patio/theatre/attic/kitchen/bathroom projects.
Projects can be as big as DIY home theatre, or as a small as a pop can lamp.

Pictures are most encouraged (your own or projects you've found). Most anything and everything homemade counts.
Money savers are best (think MacGyver)! Keep us updated with your progress, or post your already finished product.

Please use [timg] tags for images larger than 800 pixels wide and for the love, don't quote images.
If you want to see the picture that a post is referring to, you can press this button: http://images.macrumors.com/vb/images/buttons/viewpost.gif.

I'm going to start getting this back to its glory after it being sat outside for a year:

http://lh4.ggpht.com/_bXmtMZM6uzY/Sig6QeIiYLI/AAAAAAAAA0c/4Wd5-zVUxNw/s800/DSC_0004.JPG

It's a Peugeot 306 XSi, with about 120,000 miles on the clock. I've already bought it new rear lights to get it back to standard, hopefully picking up a new rear bumper for it and smaller alloys for it.

All of the work will be carried out by me and my best mate.

A side part of the project will be getting my driving license back after the monumental f-up by the DVLA which brought the car off of the road in the first place.

I made this magnetic 3x3x3 Rubik's Cube a couple weeks ago. It took me about 3 days in the garage drilling and gluing, but in the end, I am very happy with the results. Ive been looking to sell it, but have yet to get many offers, so Im just gunna see what happens. If anyone is interested, make an offer :D

I was wondering about that… I spotted the jars in the corner. ;)

Not too sure about the glass vases on top though… the dust is going to be hell to keep off…

Nice work. :)

Haha, good eye.

They do collect dust, but I try not to think of it. :p Didn't wanna store them; they are all vases from flowers I've sent to my wife and she wants to keep them. There are some plants up their now too for a little more color.

It's still a WIP hindered by a round of swine flu in the house, but we're doing the bathroom up. The shower broke so we though we should do the whole bathroom up as a wetroom. Scrapped that idea and decided to do the room up and stick in a steam shower cabin.

My plan would be to sell it for enough to buy the materials for another, and maybe make a little profit to pocket.

Thanks! And yes it does :D

Two years before I did the kitchen (1st floor) I did the basement which was 100% unfinished. I cleaned/sealed the walls and floor, which is the 2 'before pics'. Then built the theater/lobby (these pics are about 4 years old, don't knock me on the posters :) )

I doubt you remodeled to add that nuker cart and awful lamp on the left ;)

Is that a kitchen PC?

Here's a fairly decent set of photos from my last DIY project.
Defretting a Warwick Corvette Proline.
When I got it:

The neck during the defret process:

After defretting and after filling the, pre defret, damage:

Meanwhile the body was stripped of hardware/electronics and oiled:

Does it still cool the stuff in the bar, or are you just using it as a cabinet?

I use them for photography.....

TheOnlyJon

What do you photograph in front of green screen? I've heard of using a green screen for chroma keying with video, but never with photography!

tompon1923
Aug 4, 2009, 03:33 PM
I put (christmas) lights behind it :o
this way I can easily add or decrease the bokeh, which gives amazing results.
I occasionally use it for chroma keying, for both photo's and videos.

green is perfect for this as most lights fade out in a yellowish color.
This way with the foam behind it makes color less hard and spreads it over a wider surface.

I'm wanting to make my own MStand-style laptop stand but the only DIY project I've found online that was similar involved a certain paper towel holder from IKEA which is unfortunately a three-hour drive from here...

Suggestions? I just don't feel like dropping $30-50 on a laptop stand that's little more than bent, brushed metal, even though it does look really slick. I'm sure I could come up with something just as good.

Ideas?

Something wood might be cool...don't get me wrong, K'nex and Legos would be totally functional, I'd just rather have something that matches the rest of the stuff on my desk. My monitor mount is a matte black metal, so maybe I can figure out something there...
