Hello all,

I've always been a diehard fan of artists/bands such as Grateful Dead, Fleetwood Mac, Bob Dylan, The Marshall Tucker Band, The allman brothers and so on. But recently I have found myself obsessed with a band called Rusted Root. I dont know anyone who has heard of them although if you have seen the movie "Matilda" you have heard a song from thier debut album (When I Woke) called "Send Me On My Way". This is an absolutely amazing band to hear live or on in studio recordings. They have almost a tribal percussion sound. There is a lot going on in thier music and its the ultimate "Feel good" music. I strongly urge you to check this band out and give them a try. If there is anyone out there that knows of this band, let me know cause i love to hear about fellow fans of unknown bands.

i grew up in pittsburgh (rusted root's home), so i became a fan along with much of the city in the early 90's. i never understood why they didn't really hit with the "when i woke" album. it was so well produced, and it was released at just the right time. my copy was stolen in france, and i hope it's getting passed around bringing some smiles to folks overseas.

an interesting note, rusted root's success spawned a short lived world-pop scene in pittsburgh, and there's a wealth of even lesser-known music in the same line as RR. if you can find it, there was a group called PSOAS who picked up where RR left off. i know they cut an album, but i'm not sure how wide the release was. i saw them live a few times, and they were pretty good. if you like rusted root, give psoas a listen.

the pre-"when i woke" indie album "cruel sun" is available via re-release, and it's got some other versions of a few songs from wiw (cruel sun, send me on my way, martyr). check it out if you get a chance.

Absolutely. I was a fan... Root broke fairly big with the whole DMB craze, but they were too good and different to make top 40 radio.

They had 5 or 6 Albums, plus a few solo albums here and there

"When I Woke" is a classic.. Thanks for the lead.. I just burned the CD to listen to in the car.
