There are two new iPhone ads

The the ad "Share" I noticed that instead of showing AT&T 3G at the top of the iPhone it shows AT&T and WIFI.. I wonder why?

No need to be hostile... I'm just saying why did apple change that? It has nothing to do with my phone not working!

It could be because some or all of the apps are share via WiFi and not over 3G. Some apps are shareable via cell and other are just shareable via the same internet network/router. That could be why

ETA: Just downloaded MOVER which is only for wifi - it doesn't work via 3g

Damn. They sure are relying on the App Store for a majority of their apps these days. Makes you wonder how they even advertised the first year the iPhone was out.

Are you kidding? The iPhone was pretty much the most ad-friendly phone ever released. Multi-touch, real web browsing, and the iPod features interested pretty much everyone. Actually, since it was so new and unlike other phones that have been released, anything that was related to the iPhone interested most people.

I saw both ads on TV tonight while I was flipping through channels, though I only caught the last few seconds of each on TV. Aren't there three new ads, by the way?

Apple today released two new iPhone commercials, now available on Apple's iPhone ad gallery (http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/ads). Similar to some previous iPhone commercials, the new ads each feature three App Store applications linked by a common theme.

Share (http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/ads/#share-large): Focuses on the iPhone's ability to easily share data and engage in multiplayer gaming.

- Bump [App Store (http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=305479724&mt=8"), Free] - allows users to swap photos and contacts by bumping iPhones together.

Travel (http://www.apple.com/iphone/gallery/ads/#travel-large): Demonstrates the iPhone's utility when traveling, highlighting a trip to Paris as an example to tie the three featured apps together.

From Wikipedia on the Zune:

Microsoft also wanted to go beyond Apple’s efforts and promote the tagline "the social" and Wi-Fi (wireless sharing) as key differentiators. Chris Stephenson, leader of Zune's marketing and manager of Global Marketing for the Entertainment Business,[62] said, "we see a great opportunity to bring together technology and community to allow consumers to explore and discover music together."[40] New York Times Magazine columnist Rob Walker agrees that the Zune's "community and togetherness seem like a reasonable counterpunch to iPod's supposed attraction as an individuality enabler that allows owners to wallow in their own tasteful personal soundtracks." But he also sees the Zune as having gained appeal as an individualistic statement against the omnipresent iPod: "The most salient feature of the Zune seems to be that it's not an iPod".[63]

Mr.Stephenson, you explored a great concept. How does it feel to have failed on this premise and have a competitor, that same iPod which you say has a "supposed attraction as an individuality enabler that allows owners to wallow in their own tasteful personal soundtracks", deliver the experience in such an elegant manner?

Advertising the iPhone to be great for overseas travel is a joke. First, that damn thing is provider-locked. Next, there's AT&T's questionable data charges. This is ridiculous. If Apple really think the iPhone is usable as a travel device, sell the damn thing unlocked.

It could be because some or all of the apps are share via WiFi and not over 3G.

I'm assuming that the Apps that share with "nearby iPhones" use WiFi to determine "nearby iPhones." If you were on 3G, the App would not know which iPhones are "nearby iPhones."

Update: If GPS were used by the App, I suppose it could determine "nearby iPhones" to within ten feet or so by using the GPS.

Question: Can you share from one iPhone to another iPhone, using WiFi if there is no WiFi router nearby? Let's assume you are out in the middle of a huge parking lot and there is no WiFi router accessible.

Damn. They sure are relying on the App Store for a majority of their apps these days. Makes you wonder how they even advertised the first year the iPhone was out.

It's called evolution, dude. The iPhone is evolving. Think of what the iPhone will be in 2011, 2012, 2013, ...

Just because you may have acquired your iPhone from a provider locked country (because not ALL countries sell the iPhone SIM locked), it in no way restricts usage in other countries. True, you may not be able to pop-in a local SIM for cheaper tariffs, and if you're on AT&T then their roaming charges may be prohibitive...

For data, you can always turn off data roaming and stick to open WiFi when you find them.

Looks like Freeverse is getting a little greedy since the Ad. They raised the Postman App a buck on Aug 4th. ($0.99 > $1.99) Boo Hiss...

What else do we need? ;)

I've made some screenshots showing the rest of the apps they're having on their "ads iPhone" (from the "share" spot) and they should really read their emails :) Bloomberg, The New York Times and eBay show up two times and not only one Google app... ;-)

(Sorry for my bad English maybe I'll try iTranslate next time.)
