Hi,

I am considering buying a top end iMac very soon and was wondering whether a new or updated one is going to be released soon?

I appreciate any comments or advice in advance

Thanks

Matt

I would say that there might be a minor update early next year, but no redesign until later at the earliest.

cool, so a pretty safe bet getting one now then?

Would the following specification be suitable for photo editing and fairly serious SD/HD film editing?

24-inch iMac
3.06 GHz, 4GB RAM,
1TB HDD @ 7200RPM
ATI Radeon HD 4850 512MB

Thanks

IMO that seems more than fine.

If you have the cash, go for that high end machine, then at least you're prepared for the future, and if they do update just the insides (Like a small processor bump) then you won't think "Aww damn! I just lost out on 1.4Ghz of Power"

if you have a screen, keyboard and mouse handy then the base model mac pro is only like 100 more, and its quad core processor will give oodles of benefits when video editing.

iMac will be updated, exactly 8 days after you buy yours.
