SBSettings.
it doesn't seem to be on cydia any more
You don't *need* any package to do it.
To enable the battery percentage toggle (iPhone 3G, OS 3.x.x)
SSH into your phone
Go to /System/Library/CoreServices/Springboard.app/
Open the M68AP.plist file, and add the following new child under capabilities:
gas-gauge-battery - Boolean - Yes
<key>gas-gauge-battery</key>
<true/>
Restart your iPhone
Go to Settings > General > Usage > Battery Percentage

You're not looking hard enough. Search for SBSettings then tap the s listing on the right and it will be right there. Much easier to download this than edit the plist mentioned above.

This Cydia app does this for you
1)Open Cydia and add this source ----> http://apt.iphone-storage.de
2) After repo is added, install asBattery
3) Reboot phone ..... a respring will not work !
4) Open settings/general/usage (located below "about" selection)
5) Toggle on Battery Percentage
6) Re-spring

With sbsettings all you have to do is this:
1. Drag finger across top of phone to get menu
2. select more
3. select extra's & Options
4. select ON for Numeric battery
There you go, battery percentage on ur phone

Anyone know?
http://IPHONE.ORG.HK/APT
then go to 'show battery percentage'
Thats it!
No rebooting, the toggle will be in setting>general>usage

Word is the one you get from SBSettings did. Never used that one so i dont know.
I used the one i posted but i have turned it off. Not due to battery life, i just dont really like having the percentage shown. Makes me feel i need to charge the battery more often when the numbers are on as opposed to just the indicator on the battery in the corner.

if I use the cydia app "show battery percentage" with the repo source [iphone.org.hk],
when i have that on in settings, general, usage, battery percentage, when its on, and i check sbsettings/extras & options, the numeric battery is on in sbsettings to and if i turn it off there it will turn of in show battery percentage settings too
but in the other cydia app
asBattery when its on in settings, it is off in sbsettings
Vegastouch why is the one you posted using sbsettings?

I dont know. I also have a 2G and dont know if asBattery will work with it or not. It says it has only been tested with a 3G.
EDIT**
Nope, didnt work on mine anyways. Wouldnt even install and it went right to a reboot.

I'm sorry I'm not following you here...do you mind copy and pasting the code here?

Why are you going through all the "trouble" of searching Cydia and using SSH and such when there is a built-in battery % indicator right in the settings? Go to Settings/General/Usage and it's the first option, at least on my 3.0 3GS it is. It's been there right out of the box, no jailbreak necessary.

Ah OK, I thought it was a 3.0 feature, didn't know it was 3GS-specific. Carry on, lol.

I'm assuming you don't have Xcode installed and are therefore opening the .plist file with a text editor (TextEdit), then it's as simple as editing an XML file. See picture below for the code (overlaid with red) to add under the "capabilities" key.
<key>gas-gauge-battery</key>
<true/>

There is a new app in Cydia called Battery Control which allows you to select any combination of battery percentage and battery icon. I mention this because many people want the percentage without the icon and this is the only way I've seen on 3.0.
