My girlfriend and I have both recently taken the plunge and ordered new powerbooks, her the 12" and I the 15" 1.33 models with stock ram. I am going to upgrade mine with ram from crucial and want to get 1gig in two sticks.
My question is whether the extra 256Mb I take out of my 15" will work in my girlfriend's 12" powerbook so she can have 512Mb. I see on the apple website that both are listed as having PC2700 (333MHz) DDR SDRAM, which is also what crucial suggests to upgrade both. However on another suppliers list I have, it says the 12" as using PC2100 (266MHz) ram.

Obviously the apple and crucial specs are more likely to be right, but I just wanted to check here if my extra stick will work in her computer or even if anyone else had done something similar without problems.

If the stick fits, it should work fine. If her computer is 266, and you put the 333 in there, it should just run at the lower speed. So it should work, no real risk in trying it out.

Is it just me being drunk, or is this thread really really sexual?

Personally, my girlfriend's prefers the lower speed, but I'm always stickin' the high speed **** in there, and it works really great.

P.S.: "RAM!..... RAM!"

P.P.S. "RAM!"

The current PB's use PC2700. It is the older PB 12" like my rev. B that comes with PC2100.

as Chip said, the RAM from your computer will work in your girlfriend's computer.

right now I have a 256MB module in my 12" 1.33GHz PowerBook that came from a 15" 1.25GHz PowerBook, giving me a total of 512MB. the 1.25, 1.33 and 1.5GHz 15" PowerBooks all take PC2700 SO-DIMMs. the 1.33GHz 12" PowerBook also takes PC2700 SO-DIMMs. the two earlier 12" PB models took PC2100.

Just do About This Mac on both PBs to find out. All current PB models (1.33G - 1.5G) use the same PC2700 DDR.
