Thank you for showing us how to incorporate GV with TextNow! I don't get signal at home, & always found it a hassle to use GV from my phone, but wanted a number unlike the email address that TextNow provides. This makes everything so much easier. :)

If you set it up with Google Voice then you can go to voice.google.com and check your messages too.

Of course, you have to go into the settings for google voice and forward your texts to the textnow.me address. Once you initiate that first text with GV, all your texts to and from that person will use your google voice number. They can text you anytime from that number too.

Thanks for your help, during the setup I had checkbox for Text Forwarding. It's working now. this is an awesome app.

Using an iPhone 4, when I'm in a call and use textnow, it seems to crash my phone. The power button and home button stops working. The app still works fine but I just can't leave the app. I emailed Derek about this already. Anybody else have this happening?

They released a new update today with a feature a lot of you have been asking for. You can now get your own phone number from the app to give to your friends!

Let me just say, that this is definitely the best texting app as it works flawlessly with my google voice number. However, I foolishly upgraded to a phone number with the new update which broke the GV functionality. While I can still receive texts thru my GV account, when responding it shows as coming from the Textnow number assigned to me.

Unfortunately, I have been unsuccessful in receiving a response from the company yet asking to remove the phone number from my account. If anyone from Enflick reads this, I would very much appreciate any help you could offer in resolving this. I love this app, but it is useless now.

I also tried to create a new account, but it will not let me sign out. I have tried everything, even restoring it as new and it STILL shows up with the account that I am having the issue with. Oh well, had to try something!

Textnow cant send.. it requires 10 digit phone number.

When I'm in the textnow app and you have the call button up top---if I were to call the number I text how does that work? Is it a free call as well thru the app itself or does it use my AT&T minutes and show on bill as a regular call?

Can I get a simple version of what google voice is and does for us and the app? I have read about it but still confused on what it actually does??

When I text someone it shows that it was sent from some random number (616879 or something). Is it possible to show my phone number so the person knows it was me? Or does it only show the textplus number?

Ever since enabling the Voice features of the app, my battery drains about 20% each hour. Since then, I have disabled all voice options, reinstalled the app, did a hard reset and I still get horrendous battery life. Is anyone else having similar issues in the latest update? I noticed if I close TextNow in the multitask bar, my battery life doesn't suffer. It's when it's running in the background, I get nailed. I'd also like to point out when i close it from the multitask bar, I no longer receive push msgs.....any suggestions / similar stories?

I am deployed in Afghanistan with the Army National Guard. I just got this app today and was wondering if I text people back home in Iowa will it charge THEM at all on their cell phone or do they get it for free since I am texting them and I have it for free? Pretty much do they get charged at all for texting me from their cell in the states to my ipod touch in afghan?

I am experiencing major delays with texts arriving. It started 1-2 weeks ago. Before it was maybe one or two texts that would arrive around 2 AM but now many texts that are sent throughout the day are arriving around 2 AM.

I purchased the voice add on so my wife could leave me voice messages since I'm in Afghanistan and my resources are a bit limited but the voice still says not active and when I click purchase to buy it again it says it's already been purchased for this month but it says not active I have even uninstalled reinstalled reset my iPad and everything nothing is working I hope that guy Derek is still around maybe he can help

I've had this app since April and it's always worked really well until this morning. I opened it up and got errors that said "unable to recieve messages at this time" and "unable to send messages at this time". Then I uninstalled and reinstalled the app (several times) and now it won't open and I keep getting spammed with the error message "unable to complete your request. Please try again later"
My wifi connection is good- all my other apps work and my Internet works. So it's definitely a problem with the app. (this problem started this morning, since then I have installed the new update and that didn't help at all)
