Just has this idea yesterday morning when I found one of the holograms in a cereal box from years ago. It's a piece of plastic than has an image on a side, then when you tilt it it turns to a different image, tilt it more and a third image comes in to complete the sequence.

My though is, why cant two people, using the sane concept, watch a television from two different angles and see two separate images? It would be fantastic for multiplayer consoles or even watching two channels at once (one person with headphones i guess). Any opinions?

This would be impossible using the technology that we have today. The technology that we have today uses backlight to generate an image, with the exception of e-ink displays. Also, the pixel density would have to be far greater than what we have today, otherwise the image generated would appear to have dark vertical lines every other pixel. Also, without being able to predict the subjects' viewing angle poses a problem. And, lastly, one would never be able to view the display straight-on without image distortion.

I'm pretty sure awhile ago I heard about a tech demo just like that in Japan... but I doubt it'll ever be more than that. It's an impractical gimmick.

The new Jaguar XJ and Range Rover have screens like this so the passenger can watch TV while the driver sees the Sat nav.

Pretty cool idea, I believe the Mercedes S Class also has one.

Spot on with gizmodo. there. Yeah I agree a niche market but seems to be successful in the car industry, though expensive I imagine. Should be a standard in the Ford Fiesta by say 2025?

Thanks for info MR, this could be interesting pub banter.
