Hi, was looking at camcorders for powerbooks and I had a question:

if the software doesn't say its MAC compatible, will the camcorder still work for the mac with iMovie and whatnot?

the ones i'm debating on are the:
Sony DCRHC-30
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-H6ksqi...3700&I=158DCRHC30&o=p&a=0&cc=01&avf=N&search=

Canon Elura 65
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-H6ksqi...g=53700&I=280EL65&o=p&a=0&cc=01&avf=N&search=

or the one in question with MAC compatibility: Panasonic PVG-S120
http://www.crutchfield.com/S-H6ksqi...3700&I=133PVGS120&o=p&a=0&cc=01&avf=N&search=

I'd like the panasonic cause it has 3 CCD's and suppsoedly has the best color reproduction. But I can't tell if it'll work on my PB. Any input? Course Crutchfield's website says it works for mac but Panasonic's website says it doesn't.... And iMovie will convert prerecorded tapes no problem, you don't have to stream in live video right?

So will it work and whatcha think of the camcorders? :)

Thanks ^_^

Apple is notoriously slow at updating its iMovie compatability list. But the theory goes, that any digicamcorder with firewire will be recognized by iMovie. :)

I went with the Sony and I am really satisfied with this decision. I was considering basically the same cameras as you, and I don't think you can go wrong with any of them. I would suspect the Panasonic will work with iMovie as well. Just my two cents.

Yeah, ht elist is hopelessly out of date. I have the PV-GS70, which I think is simply last year's GS120. It works fine. I haven't found any incompatabilities yet, and all the basics work--get movies on to imac, and get final movies back on to DV tape.

I am putting in a plug for Sony camcorders as well. A best-buy for the money. Also, don't buy from Crutchfield - WAY overpriced. Instead, use Pricegrabber :D

Oh never planned to buy from crutchfiled, they just had the easiest Hyperlinks to show :)

I ended up witht he Panasonic and truly am amazed, the color (especially outdoor shots) is incredible :) And streams to imovie just fine.
