Iv been off reading books for awhile, and I'm looking for something that I can really get immersed in. Something that I don't have to force myself to read.

If you are a guy and like it darker and deeper, Ann Rice's Vampire series
If you like science fiction, Ender's Game and sequels
If you like detective stuff, Michael Connelly's Harry Bosch series
If you like really good stuff, Pat Conroy's books

Hey! 😡 Okay, yeah, I do essentially act young and female. 😱 I might as well stop arguing this point. 🙁
If you really like Harry Potter as fantasy, some of the great classics of series fantasy might be worth looking at -- even if you've read Tolkien, have you read the Prydain Chronicles (from the 60s), the Chronicles of Narnia (from the 50s), perhaps the Bromeliad (from the 90s) and so on? Even for that matter a few of Mercedes Lackey's books are not half bad ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes_Lackey ). She's definitely a bit geeky in the fantasy sense (I read this a while ago) but she was actually also fairly progressive -- like the Last Herald Mage trilogy of books follows a gay main character.

This is a good suggestion 🙂.
Another good series to read if you are into science fantasy are the Raymond E Feist Riftwar Saga. Magician is the first and it's a wonderful stand alone book to read. A real page-turner 🙂.

the shanara series by terry brooks. he has levers series that are good like magic kingdom sold and a few others.

Fahrenheit 451 is similar to 1984. A very excellent, immersive read.
A Brave New World also deals with some similar themes and is a good read.
According to the German Comedy Ambassador in Great Britain - Henning Wehn - you should read a "proper" book: The Berlin Yellow Pages 🙂

Both books I bought for my own entertainment and didn't put either of them down until I finished them. Of course people are going to "boo" at the latter, but the former was truly written by a genius. Probably the best short story writer of our time.

I really enjoyed Diamond Age. I thought it was really thoughtful.
Does the Shannara series ever end? I read a few of those books when I was a kid and, while they were really good (I liked the one where one of the main characters was an outcast Elven girl... her name was Amberle or something like that... erm, Elfstones of Shannara I think), I just ultimately got tired of reading the series.
Similar issue with Robert Jordan's books except I didn't even make it through half a book. 😱
Now to all the points of reading beyond F&SF... there's a world of amazing literary fiction out there. But the structure is different. Literary fiction doesn't come in 700 page novels and it doesn't come in six book epic sagas. But to be honest, I dropped F&SF (literally for years until I read Twilight) and didn't much look back.
