Not really, but hear me out.
Tell me every Tom Dick and Harry aren't sporting iPhones. I see 12 yr old, and 60 year old grandma's walking around with these things now. iPhone has really lost the feeling of exclusivity. Heck, when WalMart starting selling them, I knew we were in trouble!
Make no mistake, I loved my White 3G, and too my 32 GB, but at least if I had a pre, wouldn't look like everyone else.
It's like a BMW M5. One of the greatest cars in the world. Would love to have one. But if everyone else in my town had one, I would rather be driving a CTS V.

Even thing that maybe because they are so popular is because they are so easy to use? My mom was looking at mine and couldn't believe how easy it was to use it, and she's 60 (something). Apple did something right, they made a phone that's so easy to use that anyone can use them.

Oh please, this is America! And America is not small. Nothing stays exclusive here. I get what is best for me, not what is best for my reputation. You're talking like the iPhone is nothing more than a fashion statement. My iPhone does just what I need it do...it is NOT a toy.

It sounds like the people who listen to under ground bands and love them and think they are cool because not many people know who the band is. Once the band gets big these people stop liking them just because they made it big.

I never really understood the desire to "stand out" exclusivity thing either, but I know a lot of people have it. I'm not putting it down, I suppose its the reason some women for instance will not wear " last year's fashion".
The Pre is nice and you will certainly see less of them out there. I am planning on getting one as a second phone. The sell them unencumbered apparently for $499 and you can get a month to month contract from Sprint. Expensive way to satisfy curiosity but looking forward to trying it out.

I could care less what everyone else has, I got it because I liked it and then got it again (3G S) because I still like it.
If everyone in my city had M5s and I had the chance to get one I think I would explode in happiness. I would love it because I could drive it better than >95% of the people around here.

If you bought the phone solely because it was fashionable, then maybe you need to re-evaluate your priorities.
Or, you could go buy a phone that has abysmal build quality and cuts cheese (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qocp-1HvFc8). But hey, it's unique right?

Please, I've been out on launch date for each iPhone, I early adopt damn nearly every piece of electronics that interests me... But that's what happens with popular and useful things that don't cost as much as BMW's, lots and lots of people end up owning them! If it's that serious to be the small minority of people that can own something, scrounge your change up and buy a Honus Wagner rookie card! Then you won't have to worry about many people owning one.

I can kind of see your point there. I do a lot of things to separate myself from "normal people" including the clothes I wear, the car I drive, and the way I interact with other people., My best friend and I even have our own little language, that "normals" won't understand...
I have Asperger's Syndrome, and was stuck in a depression loop, but then I brought myself out of it. I came to believe I was different from other people, and did a lot of things to differentiate myself. If I am in a group of 1,000 people, you would be able to easily spot me, I will say that much.
But iPhone & Macs, I will keep on using no matter how popular they get. These are tools that satisfy my needs, and makes me money, and keeps me productive in the workforce. It is what allows me to be unique because these tools give me the income I need to keep me alive in this economy. Of course if anything better comes down the road, I may experiment, but so far, nothing has been able to beat Apple's offering.
These items are tools, thats it, not a fashion statement, there are other things about me that make me unique, and the iPhone doesn't have to be one of them.

I think Apple had 1.4% of the world market share for mobile phones in 2008. When you take into account all the phones still in use that were sold before 2008 iPhones probably amount to less than 0.5%.
Of course in countries like the USA, UK, France and Germany it is probably way higher than that. I went to a MacRumors picnic in London last weekend and they probably outnumbered other phones by 9:1. ;)

The funny thing about it is, not everyone does root for one team, or wear the same sunglasses or clothes.
Likewise, not everyone has an iPhone. Imagine that? People still have Blackberries and WinMo devices, not to mention the millions of non-smartphones out there. In fact, Apple isn't even a majority in market share, let alone being the only choice out there.

I guarantee you that will show the difference between you and the rest of the world.
It's pretty freakin' sad that you live in a wealthy, stable country and have the luxury to spout this sort of crap. Since you own an iPhone, you are apparently middle-class or above (or, your financially irresponsible and own a phone that you cannot afford which I suppose is a possibility as well...) Why don't you give away your non-special, non-attention getting phone and spend some time around those who have absolutely nothing and get a little perspective about life. You don't deserve the possessions you currently have.

Problem is, the OP has made it clear that his issue isn't actually individuality, but exclusivity. The fact that other people could possibly do the same thing as him to customize their iPhones (I'm assuming it would involve a Ryan Seacrest background and Hello Kitty icons) would doubtless leave him feeling inferior and sad.

The problem with that is he don't want it bad enough. If wants to be that exclusive, he needs to design his own phone. Other people do it with cars, they build them from the ground up. He wants to take a mass market item which he did not design, and hoard it all for himself and a few select special people. People who don't want the same thing as other create it for themselves. He is just full of s***.

you know whats sad? when you define yourself by your material possessions:cool:
I fixed that for you buddy! To the OP if you want something no one else will ever have, that is also guaranteed to set you apart from the crowd, how about you try getting a personality, or some other useful personal trait / characteristic that will benefit yourself AND others instead of being so vain and consumed by what you own.
It is the best phone money can buy, that is why everyone, who can afford one, has one. Unfortunately it is JUST A PHONE, thus is readily available to everyone. Perhaps you could take your bandwagon iPhone, call the third reich, and see if they have a more exclusive one for you.
If you are so wealth driven, heres an idea. Start your own company, or buy one, and make your own phone, just for yourself.
OT - When my cousin is tired of driving his M5 (your hypothetical point, but my real info), he jumps in his AMG CLK63 Black Edition... Just to let you know, he drives the M5 95% of the time, and he has an iPhone. That must make him an average backwoods joe in your eyes then... In my eyes he is an average person, and it is not the phone that did it, sorry bud. I am on the opposite side of the coin from him monetarily, and am dead broke, but I wouldn't trade my personal assets for his monetary ones EVER! TEH HORRAR!
It must be sad experiencing life only ankle deep.

Oo! My new business - like Orange County Choppers, but for iPhones.

OP, you do realize NO ONE agrees with you right:rolleyes:
Yes, I realize EVERYONE else is right, and I am not. Just expressing an opinion. I personally do not make it a point to try to belittle others opinions for the sake of trying to be right. But suppose the gang mentality in this thread goes along with being like everyone else.

Its best to stick to facts partner, opinion's in forums are subject to interpretation. Hell even the supposed facts on these boards are up for speculation.:D

I was agreeing with the poster. You sir are an internet bully. Tough guy! All bowed up behind the WWW.
Dude... Say what you want, I don't care. I seriously think you should go work in a soup kitchen or something so you'll see that this world extends beyond you.
I met a young girl overseas when I was playing boy scout in the desert, about 14 years old. She was dressed in rags and her ribs were plainly visible, helped feed her family by searching the city dump barefoot for things that she could sell on the street. I gave her a hershey's bar. 14 years old and had never tasted chocolate before. You should take comfort in the fact that she'll never get an iPhone and further weaken your "specialness."

I recently got an iPhone 3GS (16gb Black, if you must know).
I didn't get it for the awesome functionality. I didn't get it for the great features. I got it to piss off OP.
I am pleased to see that it is working.

Wow... It may be the flu affecting my mentality, but I don't see how that makes any sense, or is any kind of an insult, other then it mentions my mother? Would you please care to break it down for a simple folk, such as myself sir?
And now we all know (based on that comment) that the original poster is sub-18 years old and his parents bought him his crappy iPhone.

She might get an iphone in the future i think the op is better for wanting to be exclusive than you are for automatically thinking (like they do in india) that because she was born in that "caste" she will be there forever.

Maybe you should stop being such a snob and worry less about what other people use. If the phone suits your needs then why would you want anything else?
Agreed. OP really needs to reevaluate how he looks at life.

lol. I typed a reply to your post but it's no use. You couldn't wrap your head around the situation if you tried. No wonder this world is the way it is.

I don't think it's snobish to say that... I mean when they first came out I felt the same way... It was like, "WOAH, you have an iPhone?!?!?!?" Now, it's, "Oh, is that the new iPhone......"
