Hey,
I live in Canada and I was watching TV the other day and it turns out the McDonald's/Sony free music giveaway has started. Apparently how it goes is for every big mac you buy, you get a free song which you download at www.connect.com/canada If Sony is able to launch a music service in Canada how come iTunes hasn't been launched yet?

Without registering, I'm not sure what's available, but wouldn't it be quite simple for Sony to offer their catalogue and to also make it difficult for Apple to reach an agreement to carry it?

I would imagine that the various provinces have no more interest in music protection than the states here, and that the national government would have already approved a store. That would leave the individual labels and working with them to agree to appropriate pricing for 3 years, as they've done with labels in other countries. Also, since the labels are crying poor, do they really want to agree to a fixed price at all?

I'm sure that, once they reach an agreement with the biggest labels, they will open a Canadian store.

I was looking into it the other day myself, and it's actually a whole diff store than the US, the Canadian store is in partnership with sony, it's actually just puretracks (for canucks)
