What was the point of that post?

Uhh pot meet kettle. ;)
It has about as much point as your's and the OP's.

Ads shouldn't block content. I agree with the OP. The US Cellular spot needs to go. Find a different way to advertise, please.

This is true, but arn does have some control over the ads that appear on MR. Particularly annoying ones can be excluded and replaced with other ads. This falls under "particularly annoying" because, as a prior poster noted, it blocks content.

But ads pay so that so many don't have to be demis and contributors. If more become demis and contributors, then maybe Arn will delete the ad, huh?

As always, jessica is right. Yep, she's the only demi that posted here. :)

I don't think Arn is trying to shake us down to become demi's, at least I hope not! ;)

I would think Arn would replace the ad if he sees fit. I've never run across it. Does it stay over the screen all the time or just when you put your mouse over the ad?

Not now. ;) I have never seen that ad. Do you have to mouse-over to get the pop up part?

Kind of, it's hovering over the middle of the page and blocks anything underneath it. When you hover it expands and fills the left half of the page.

I concur. It is really annoying, just hovering. Do not have to mouse over it to get it to appear & no 'hide' button on it. Apparently the banner does not even need to be US Cellular? It's just living on it's own, reminding me how fast 3G is, or could be if they were my carrier...

I'm on Safari 4 (maybe safari is not rendering it as it is suppose too? I don't know much about this). It's on every time I bring up macrumors.

Well, I haven't seen it, but I'm on IE 8. Maybe you need to get off safari? j/k

I wonder what jmann is on.

Edit: right now there is a different ad up. does it do it now?

Are you on IE, Firefox, safari, etc?

Edit: missed the last smiley...:)

Edit2: What's the deal with your avatars, btw? Just asking. They sure are cute. :)

Edit 3: Do you see the problem the OP is seeing jessica?

It's annoying but the way the original post was worded was demanding and probably won't really get much done. The better way to pose this is to ask if anyone else sees the ad rendered the way he sees it and then suggesting that the ad be removed so as to not block content.

I am using Safari 4, I never see ads, just that annoying "touch arcade" ad at the top of the page, that some lovely forum member pointed out, and now I can't stop noticing it.

You don't like it? I'm a closeted pokémon nerd. I used to have that avatar a couple of months ago, but it wasn't animated. It is a shiny pokémon named Milotic (1 in 6000 chance of running into one) and on top of that it is a rare pokemon. I think I caught it back in 2004. ;)

I only see the arcade one (maybe it's random?). I edited my above post in response to your second edit.

Is the toucharcade ad not there for you? I figured that the subscription would have removed all ads, but it still shows up for me. It wouldn't make sense for it to only show up for those that have an ad-free page.

I bet that only the graphical ads are poofed away. :(

I haven't seen the US Cellular ad on my last few rounds of forum activity. If it is gone, I'd like to say "Thank You" to the admins for listening to our concerns. I understand the need to make money, I work in advertising myself, but I just want you to know that your attention to user concern is much appreciated and will ultimately benefit you in the long run. I'll make sure to click a few ads today!:)

As the FAQ explains, the ads support MacRumors, but if there is an inappropriate ad (one that pops out of the banner area, plays sounds, is in bad taste, etc.), let us know and if possible give us both a screenshot and the URL that the ad links to.

We had another report that this ad or a similar one appeared, so we're still trying to eliminate it. If you see it again, please post a screenshot and the URL the ad links to.

Using Safari...

The ad links here:
http://ad.doubleclick.net/click;h=v8/388f/2/0/*/h;216767561;0-0;0;16777030;255-0/0;32884948/32902825/1;u=ns-51812670_1250734697,113595abb285323,CE_Desktops_Apple,;~sscs=?http://clk.pointroll.com/bc/?a=1246127&c=1&i=F664D8E0-5CEA-4183-8BE7-C0A534DE3505&clickurl=http://www.uscc.com/uscellular/SilverStream/Pages/x_page.html%3Fp=banner_20093Q_3G

Then the address shortens to:

http://www.uscc.com/uscellular/SilverStream/Pages/x_page.html?p=banner_20093Q_3G

Thanks. We've sent in another request and the ad should be removed this time.
