New or Old Monitor?

Hey everyone! I'm in the market for a new Mac. finally. Unfortuanatly, my budget is completly full. I've been pricing out my system with the Current 17" LCD for 599 with student discount. After the rumors today, i noticed that the 20" is supposed to be 999... I can't afford another 500 bucks for another monitor. So my question is: would you buy the current apple 17" dispaly? Spend 600 on a different monitor? or fork over the extra 400 bucks?

Check out some other brands of monitors, no reason to stick with an Apple monitor if it's not in your budget.

Can anyone speculate about how much you think they are going to be selling the old versions (20") for when the new ones come out?
