Harold Samuel Tate, 33, is accused of stealing 80 laptops, 30 iPods and other electronics from the Apple Stores inside Perimeter and North Point malls, according to police.
The reporter on the newscast called an iPod touch and iTouch. Haha.

It doesn't say that for me. Just mentions iPods and notebooks from various malls, doesn't specify the stores. I assume this was a night job?

How do you move 80 laptops around?

You carry two at a time. One in each hand. And make forty convenient trips back into the store. Duh. :p

80 (laptops)*$2000 (Average?)=$160,000

30 (iPods)*250=$7500.

That's assuming that the iPods were all 120GB Classics. I'm sure there were Nano's, Touches, Shuffles, and the more expensive classics, so I thought I'd use that as an average.

That's $170,000 at most.

"and other electronics"

Maybe factor in some monitors, apple tv's, a few imacs and mac pros?

Depends on how you do it. Dress up in a Apple shirt (or black mock turtleneck and blue jeans :D) and mall security won't question you as you move it around. Works for that guy in the commercials stealing all that Miller High-Life.

Wow. Thats kind of scary. I live 10 miles from Perimeter Mall and frequent there. Makes me kind of weary of it now.

What is scary about this? A guy stole merchandise from an Apple store, it happens all the time to pretty much every store everywhere in the world.

I could just see this:

Me: Wanna go to the mall?
You: Yeah but not Perimeter Mall, I heard a guy stole from the Apple store. Its scary.

Part of the confusion is the misuse of the term "robbed." Shoplifting or burgling is not robbing.

I guess it's not as dramatic for a homeowner to return from vacation to find her home empty and shout, "I've been burgled!" but that would be the correct term, not, "I've been robbed!"

Without force or threat of force there is no robbery.

You do not even have to go that far.

Just act like you are doing your job and supposed to be doing something like that and 99% of people will not question you. It is sad but as long as you do not act like you are doing something wrong you can get away with a lot of stuff.
It does not set off anyone radar if you do not behave incorrectly. Hell that pallet jack pulling it around would of made it even easier to pull it off because who would think someone using a pallet jack was stealing something. People would assume they are doing their job and leave it at that.
